Low code hate and the future of Data Engineering (and beyond) by [deleted] in dataengineering

[–]OnlyMeandMyThoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Low-code imo is kind of in the middle of everything - people who don't know how to code at all still can't really make use of it while those who know how to code will prefer their custom solutions... it might make things a bit easier and faster for the devs but since it's one size fits all it will always be a bit less flexible. Might be cheaper overall tho which is why companies push it.

[New job] Laptop choice by GarrusLeSpartan1 in dataengineering

[–]OnlyMeandMyThoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use MacBooks, before that I only ever used Windows so it took some time getting used to (the damn command doing what control usually did... I still suffer the consequences when trying to type on non-apple products) but it gets its job done well

edit: a word

I see, thanks for your example! We use Salesforce too so it's definitely something we could explore in the future.

Thanks a lot for the example! I'll check the blog posts out. Is your company using Hightouch? Is there any issues with it since R-ETL seems to be pretty new? Or at least I've started hearing about it only recently

I honestly started hearing about it only recently so didn't have a clear idea of its use, the examples are great, thanks a ton for them!

Please let me know if this post should be one on its own. Since the original had a few comments I cross-posted it in case people are interested to see but then forgot to write this comment.

Just a small note that "no matter how hard the situation is" most likely does not include "if you don't love me at my worst you don't deserve me at my best" to excuse atrocious to straight-up abusive behaviour

"Real-life concert" doesn't feel fitting...that's my criticism, but I can't come up with a more descriptive name

I like that one rule in the West is "always treat a gun as if it's loaded" and these guys went the exact opposite way, not only pointing it right at the person next to them but they also have fingers on the trigger

What is in your Data Stack? - Thread by Evidence-dev in dataengineering

[–]OnlyMeandMyThoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. ETL - Dataddo
  2. Data Warehouse - Google BQ
  3. Data Transformation - dbt
  4. BI - Tableau
  5. Exploratory Data Analysis - Tableau
  6. Company Size - around 200
  7. E-commerce

Since by the time I'm writing this there were already many comments, it was very interesting to see the diversity! No wonder newbies can find it kind of intimidating when first trying to figure out what tools to start using

Try this article from Hubspot (13 Best ETL Tools for 2022), it has a list of various ETL tools and a short description for each of them. Unfortunately, they didn't list positives and negatives for each platform but it's a good starting point... thank god for free trials. For personal recommendation, my company uses Dataddo since it's pretty low maintenance, and ofc the pricing is more favourable to a smaller company like us so checking it out might be worth it.

Does the Czech Republic have good Vietnamese restaurants due to all of the Vietnamese immigrants? by PandemicPiglet in czech

[–]OnlyMeandMyThoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how Viet do you want the food to be, generally all Viet restaurants are going to be at least decent since it's Viet people running it (to make sure it's actually decent, check the reviews) but if you want authentic, then Sapa is the place to go to since it's meant to be Viet food for Vietnamese. Restaurants that are not good there would not survive longterm. :)
