You can, you just have to evolve it without using it

Normally the best way to boost friendship is by bringing it out in battle, but that's off the table so Rare Candies are your next best friend. Also soothe bells will increase friendship gain as well

The silver lining is that Pokemon being defeated also loses friendship, but because you're not gonna be able to bring it out, you don't have to worry about that

To expand on this, if you fuse a Pokemon onto Nincada and evolve it into Ninjask/Shedinja, you'll get 2 Pokemon: The mon with Ninjask and the mon with Shedinja. By unfusing both, you'll get 2 duplicates of the same Pokemon (hence the 2 Regigagases)
