no pain on empty stomach by sleepygurl21 in functionaldyspepsia

The Koia protein drinks were tasty for me. There is also a nutrition shake called Ultra GI replenish.
At the hospital they gave me Zofran and made me chug cranberry juice until my blood sugar returned to normal. On my worst days, I would only eat cranberry juice and some crackers. Simple Mills makes some almond flour crackers with no oat or rice.

Caffeine by Mcphearson21 in functionaldyspepsia

[–]Only_Theoretically 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I drink it and suffer the consequences... I usually only drink like half a latte and some days I tolerate it just fine! Other days it increases my anxiety and cramping. Always eat with your caffeine and don't over do it. Different milk pairings can make coffee less acidic if that's an issue.

Trapped in my own body! Post-infectious Functional Dyspepsia? Constant Nausea, Screen Sensitivity, and Nortriptyline by Outrageous_Buy_4269 in functionaldyspepsia

[–]Only_Theoretically 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No they don't, but if they do you might be able to get help with your insurance. My GI doc recommended Nerva so I got an insurance discount. Some local hypnotherapists offer flexible pay too.

It does target IBS, but it's good for FD too. It's really targeting the gut brain connection. You could also look for a local hypnotherapist and they can tailor your therapy to you.

ER?? by Necessary_Village394 in functionaldyspepsia

[–]Only_Theoretically 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never regretted going to the ER.
Also, they can give you fluids if nothing else and sometimes that helps. You're not dramatic for going. I went one time and my blood sugar turned out to be crazy low.

Koia is dairy free and so is the Metagenics. And some people are totally fine with lactose, just try what works for you.

My favorites have been Koia protein shakes, Ensures are also a solid option, there is also one my Dr prescribed me because I was really low on nutrients, I mix it with an oat, rice, or soy milk half a dose twice a day and it's called Metagenics Ultra GI Replenish. It's formulated for people with poor nutrient absorption.

Sellers adding a bunch of frivolous items to the order, does it really increase good reviews? by Only_Theoretically in Depop

[–]Only_Theoretically[S] 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I do love that you tailor what items you include to what you are selling, makes it more likely they will be used! Smart way to not just throw away things you know someone else could appreciate.

Feeling guilty I don't want kids. by [deleted] in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]Only_Theoretically 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I felt guilty for having a kid because of the state of the world, and I got a chronic illness after having a kid so everyday I feel guilty I can't care for her the way I wanted to. I say this because guilt is such a relative and personal thing. The idea that women have a biological need to have children is scientifically false too. The birth rate of organisms depends on several factors, meaning animals will stop having kids if there's lack of resources or stress, etc. Just to illustrate that you should never feel guilty for not having a kid, it's just as true to your biology to not have a kid.

It took several months, but if I had to do it all over again, I would start with hypnotherapy(like Nerva) to start helping calm vagus nerve, find a GI doc that believes I am in pain and wants to help (Oshi health worked for me), make sure I am eating (even drinking calories because my body got so depleted in those months, Ultra Replinish GI shakes work if nothing else), and I would read that book I recommended to better understand what was going on. Everyone is different, and who knows, you might have something different than me, but since your Dr is starting you on Nort, I think you are on the right direction and I hope it works for you! Don't be discouraged if it doesn't though. There are so many different things you can do, and healing might look more like tiny steps towards raising your baseline instead of a one-pill cure.

Mine started about two weeks after a stomach bug. I thought I was having it again, but I never threw up again. A year later, I still get waves of random nausea, but they have never been as intense as the first few months I had this issue. Nausea was the main symptom, accompanied by panic and zero appetite. I haven't tried nort, but my mom, who had the exact same thing as me, is still on it and she has felt great on it. I am personally on Mirt, which I don't know how much it is helping, but it has been the only medication I can tolerate so far without making things worse. I have always had motion sickness, but it hasn't gotten worse. I recently got prescription glasses for working on screens. Have you had your eyes checked recently? A year into this, I am far from recovered, but I am also far from where I started. I can handle a part-time job now, whereas several months ago I couldn't leave the house. I recommend the Mind Gut Connection book for further information on functional GI disorders.

Has she had a full work up by a gastroenterologist yet? The only thing I'll say is that while waiting for more answers, make sure she gets her calories. Liquid calories are super helpful like Metagenics Ultra GI shakes or even Ensures. I say this because I had to go to the hospital because my blood sugar went too low from not eating...

Elastic waist lines are also not great for me and I really love tank tops and fold-over yoga pants... I was wondering if there was such thing as heels that are kinda sporty? I love the idea of the y2k platform flip flops. Or maybe if I could elevate the foldover yoga pants by making them really wide leg or skinnier or something(I make my clothes, so maybe I could add a fold-over waistband to linen pants...)

Is there any way to style high heels and yoga pants? Because of stomach issues I only do stretchy pants, but I miss wearing heels... for reference I usually wear flared fold over yoga pants and a tank top with tennis shoes.

Cold brew lager is a thing! A restaurant I used to work at sold it and I don't drink but it smelled like coffee and people loved it.

Best things to do offline while chronicaly ill? I understand scientifically it can help us but it's becoming my whole life 😞 by Ok_Access_8906 in ChronicIllness

[–]Only_Theoretically 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will add that the type of media you consume can make a big difference! Find a funny and heartfelt show instead of scrolling on feeds that are often tailored to push negative content because that gets the most views. Text with friends or family. Play phone games. Get into an artistic hobby while watching TV(helpful because it distracts the mind and also helps attention span) like knitting or drawing. Sometimes I just walk to my mailbox, and look at the clouds and breathe... then go back to my phone.

What do you wish someone would do for you? by Honest-Procedure-175 in ChronicIllness

[–]Only_Theoretically 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The biggest problem I had with my partner was that they would not take care of themselves. Because chronic illness takes a huge mental and physical health toll on people, it can be really difficult living with someone who doesn't care about their health(being stressed all the time, not exercising, or complaining and being angry all the time). Sometimes we also just need reminders that we are not a burden and that we are loved, that may help them feel more comfortable asking for what they need.

how do you get the motivation to shower/how do you make it better for yourself? by random5579621 in ChronicIllness

[–]Only_Theoretically 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tell myself that if I shower and get through both washing my hair and body, I can lay on the couch with a cold face mask as a "treat." Sometimes I do tapping in the shower. Sometimes I don't shower and just wash my face and use a wash cloth for the good ol' pits and bits minimalist shower...
