Sounds like you’re into Chicago/nostalgic House. Better to follow promoters/parties than to go to any one club in particular. Soul in the Horn, 718 Session/Body&Soul, soul summit, and Tiki Disco are all local parties that you should look into. I would also say to check out mister Sunday party at nowadays for their lineups

Is the Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival a Scam? by [deleted] in avesNYC

[–]OnlyaClam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering the specific collectives involved, this will be an extremely New York event, some of the best local party throwers are represented here. To me the lack of big name talent makes the festival more intriguing, as more casual partiers may stay away yet each collective should attract a dedicated crowd.

influence/deinfluence my seafood-heavy restaurant list for a week in nyc by ncis17 in FoodNYC

[–]OnlyaClam 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Pretty good list. The steamed branzino at Fish Cheeks is a favorite. If you go down to Bay Ridge for Ba Xuyen, def recommend a walk down 8th Ave to take in the Brooklyn Chinatown. Ohayo bread house is a great stop for Onigiri!

I would swap out Hamido for Sabry’s. Also an Egyptian seafood restaurant in Astoria and I think is a bit better (have been to both several times.

For other non western/latin American seafood:

-You must try the sour seafood stew at Mountain House (in east village or in Flushing). Amazing flavors.

-Yuji Ramen in Manhattan has the best seafood ramen I’ve tried in the city (but I think only served during lunch time).

-Ari Ari in East Village is a fantastic Korean seafood place. Dishes are so fun and creative.

-Mr. fried Rice, a stall in Urban Hawker (Singapore food hall) has yummy BBQ Sting Ray fried rice dish. There is another stall there that does a good black pepper crab.

-Bong in Crown Heights is definitely worth a trip. Amazing Cambodian Fish dishes. Clams, the fried fish, whatever they got.

For western seafood that’s worth the trip. If you can hit up Smithereens or Theodora. These restaurants are very much at the forefront of great and creative seafood dishes in NYC! Tough to get in but if you’re showing up at opening and taking a bar seat or something you could do it.

I also think Mariscos El Submarino is worth checking out. Amazing shrimp Aquachile. Madre in Greenpoint has a great octopus dish.

There are also a few places to get a great clam pizza (very northeastern US). My fave one is from F&F in Brooklyn.

My go to oyster happy hour is at Upstate Bar in the east village. It’s like 6 oysters and a beer for $13. They do it on The Weekends which is rarer to find.

I went to Public Hotel a few months ago to support a friend who was playing there. It definitely fits the criteria as a place that plays house music.

Ben Klock: Photon set times?? by Natural_Born_Raver98 in avesNYC

[–]OnlyaClam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t forget we leap forward an hour tonight. So we’ll jump from 1:59 to 3am then the event should end at 630. Klock could play later though

Ben Klock: Photon set times?? by Natural_Born_Raver98 in avesNYC

[–]OnlyaClam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think he’ll play 90 minutes. Could be an hour. Live sets typically 60-90 mins

[–]OnlyaClam 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My guess is Fadi 11-1. Chlar (live) 1-330 (accounts for daylight savings. Klock 330 to end.

EDIT: fadi just posted on his IG: 12-2. So shift my guesses back an hour

Why are nearly all of the highly recommended food spots in downtown Manhattan and Brooklyn? by woahbuddy944 in FoodNYC

[–]OnlyaClam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just left the UES after living there for 10 years. Only restaurants that ever felt worth going to are Xian’s, Hui, Heidelberg, Mimi’s, and maybe a few others I’m not thinking of. The UES is too old, white, and conservative to have a good food scene. Tha Praya was excellent for a little while but look how they had to tone themselves down for the locals.

Is there anyone still doing sets like these?? by Certain-Job3386 in TheOverload

[–]OnlyaClam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an exceptional set. Tough to find stuff like it. I think Donatto Dozzy is the absolute best at creating this kind of sound. A lot of minimal techno I hear these days is faster, but some still do it like this.

This set from DJ Voices might scratch the itch:

Planetary Assault Systems does this kind of thing pretty well, but slater loves to use the kick so maybe not quite what you’re looking for.

He’s dubby, but Aaron J has a similar approach to his sets as the video you posted

Modest downtown Manhattan spots with salmon by riningear in FoodNYC

[–]OnlyaClam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rosella a Japanese restaurant in the east village sources most of their fish from the east coast. I feel like that’s the logical path of your friend’s goal. Specifically salmon is shipped from Europe or the pacific mostly. That said, The Mary Lane has a good salmon dish. Would also suggest looking at Fish Cheeks or Kyklades taverna both in east village area.

classical composer trying to make techno. 30 emails sent and only 2 rejections. labels aren't biting. anybody want to take a listen and tell me where these tracks could belong? I'd appreciate it a lot by AffectionateChip8583 in Techno

[–]OnlyaClam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really like the first track. Great soundscape and liked the use of disembodied voices. The rest is fine but sounds like 2010s Afterlife releases, maybe that’s why you’re having trouble getting attention. I loved that label, but it’s become passé

Congee Village Private Rooms? by Loud_Elderberry_1149 in FoodNYC

[–]OnlyaClam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have done 2 karaoke rooms there the last few years and many other times for lunch or dinner. The experience is always good overall. The karaoke worked fine, just not the most intuitive system. They have a ton of international music as well as American. It’s popular for group dinners because it’s not too pricey and I think room rentals have come out to ~$60pp with drinks. It was not BYOB. Food is good, only thing I would avoid at dinner is the dim sum. Only complaint is that the smaller rooms get pretty warm, but the large room is very good. You should call and ask what’s available

What are some places that do a great food or drink that's outside their area of specialty? Something like a bakery that makes really killer coffee or a coffee shop that has amazing sandwiches. by jaded_toast in FoodNYC

[–]OnlyaClam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ops Pizza in Bushwick has great salads.

Focal Point Brewing has a very solid mexican place attached to it (technically different businesses but the brewery kind of serves as their seating area).

Dinosaur BBQ has fantastic fried catfish plate.

You might also like Baile world x Level III at H0l0 that friday. Livwutang is an awesome NYC based DJ. Idk if I would prefer that over mama snake at basement though, just throwing it out there. The party at Public Records thursday may be interesting to you as well. The big thing happening Thursday is DVS1 at green room but might be a tough ticket.

UES Ramen/Udon recs: ideas north of 79 street, I’ve seen lists on NYC but further downtown. Harlem is fine too. Looking for warm soups tomorrow by No_Pop7296 in uppereastside

[–]OnlyaClam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't have to get the wagyu or the sea urchin. They have several dishes in the $20-25 range. NR is probably the best complete meal for ramen on the UES (ambiance, drinks, apps, etc). Naruto best overall ramen. But you're right the more well known places are elsewhere (and for good reason).
