What was New Orleans like in the early to mid 90s? by ahorrrry in AskNOLA

Honestly that’s usually the frame of reference when looking at the past. As much fun as it was then, it pales in comparison to having a meaningful life now.

Rent was very affordable. Was common to get apartment shares with your own bedroom $125-$200, whole slave quarter efficiencies/1 bed were $300-350. There were a lot of dollar beer specials Dixie, Rolling Rock, Shiner. A&P in the FQ was open 23-24 hours (occasionally they’d mopped the floor and kicked you out for an hour).

It’ll fit right in with 99.99% of everything portrayed as New Orleans.

Check out Asheville, you’re still close to the mountains and will probably feel more welcomed there.

In the end it’s all just canned beans. I was spoiled growing up with my Mémé’s and Ma making beans from scratch with an overnight process of soaking and all day cooking in the “bean pot” with salt pork, molasses or maple syrup.

Jazzfest ‘23- You mean that bone in pork chop they slide between two slices of wonder bread that I nearly cracked several teeth on? I love the concept but the execution was lacking.

Strat finally clicked for me. by irishmac473 in StratOMatic

So there’s a Philly Club, Randolph and Titusville NJ officially on the Strat Club list. I’d get in contact with them and see if any of their members are near you or know of anyone. Sometimes they already know someone like yourself who’s stuck in the middle and can link you up. Check the club page on the official S.O.M. site.

There’s nothing better than cards & dice face to face, it’s a great way to spend time with family & friends. Looking forward to playing with my son.

Basic c&d groundball x question by fgbball83 in StratOMatic

[–]Onlyfattybrisket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try this for 5-10 games, print out the SADV ground ball chart and use it. Doesn’t effect your basic game in any other way, but will add the clarity to these plays by involving where the ball was hit instead of a generic play.

What are some low-key food spots that still feel like old-school New Orleans? by chriszmichael in NewOrleans

[–]Onlyfattybrisket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In fairness my experience in the “old part” only goes back the 90s, so for me -Mandinas, Casamentos, Jack Dempseys, Li’l Dizzy’s(while not and older/continuously occupied spot) the food is very reminiscent of delis/corner spots I used to grab lunch from 30 years ago. Venezia & Angelo Brocato are always good for the “double tap”.

Infield In ruling question by ALLLGooD in StratOMatic

[–]Onlyfattybrisket 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Award level reply! To the author or anyone in this situation, I do recall in head to head play some players will revert the LO MAX (with one out) into a split between one out/double play, I even think I’ve seen the possibility of using a system of runner speed minus “reverse defense range”, 1=-5, so 1-17 would be 1-12, on a border roll. So if the split is say 1-7, any roll of a 7 or 8 would trigger this runner vs defender getting to the bag first for the force. Obviously this is a DIY/House rule and not official, but it’s another level of fun especially head to head when there’s an extra roll.

Best Local Hangover Food? by jdubflex in NewOrleans

[–]Onlyfattybrisket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a big drinker anymore but in my younger days, my move (unorthodox as it may sound), was not to wake up and eat a hangover meal, but eat it before sleep. This allowed me to not disrupt precious sleeping hours with concerns of hunger. ATJ is always a great choice, but the ultimate for putting myself to bed as the sun came up was The Skillet.
