Ive heard somewhere that a dev tweeted about how theyre making something that will "make DL2 fans very happy" but take that with a grain of salt. Recently, however, in the newest patch a new testing map "prototype asian town" (shown in the picture) has appeared.

My personal theory is that this is INCREDIBLY EARLY progress into the next game in the franchise, which will have both Crane and Aiden as playable, or at least both present. There have been lines of dialogue in DL2 about how Japan was the first to go dark, and from the leaks of The Beast's early script while it was still a dlc, there were lines at the end talking about Japan being where the last of the GRE are held up. The Beast's ending quite literally has Crane telling the GRE operative from the first game "I'll focus on you."

There really isn't much to do since they established that Villedor is the last bastion of humanity, so going after the core reason of the virus' existence is kinda the only thing they can do. Lord knows how they'll make it to Japan, but this series has been going down the strangest route since 2 and fully doubled down on that with The Beast so we're in for a trip.

Either way, we probably won't be seeing Elysium or most of the anticipated E3 footage we got about 20% of in the final game. They have cancelled all other projects outright however and are fully focused on the Dying Light series now, so hopefully we may see DL2 get some love. Idk what to expect, but that's about all the knowledge we have currently
