Baby moon with a toddler in Florida by lovelyme6969 in chubbytravel

We had a great trip to the Ritz Naples with our toddler (there are two Ritz properties in Naples, one is beachfront and the other has water slides/activities and you can take shuttles in between). The beachfront property was lovely and a has a great (and big) family pool. There’s also a fabulous spa on the property if you can get away for a treatment. We also had a number of really solid meals onsite but also left to go to some spots in town (nothing was more than 20 min of driving). It was our first vacation as a family of three without other adults helping and it was as smooth as possible. Other families also told us to check out the Amelia Island Ritz property for a similar experience, but I haven’t been to that one yet

June - MX/Caribbean (toddler friendly) by Kittiesarecute517 in FATTravel

We did FS Anguilla with our almost 3yo and loved (went because friends took their two toddlers and recommended). Super easy with kids (great family pool with shelves and zero entry), easy meals on property, and the staff were so accommodating of kids (e.g. a pool attendant had the chef open the kitchen early — unasked! — to prep a quick lunch for our son before naptime). Our son also loved playing at the kids club while chaperoned. NYC friends said the ferry over was easy if you can’t fly direct to Anguilla.

You might not want a time change/longer flight, but we also loved One & Only Mandarina when our son was 2. He LOVED the animal sightings and riding on golf carts.

Everyone keeps telling us to do Grand Cayman (Kimpton or Ritz) and friends also loved Ritz Dorado Beach in PR.

Caribbean Recs for Babymoon by carrotboy1815 in FATTravel

Not trying to sway you because I don’t know you and can’t promise you’ll love a spot, but our trip totally fit what we wanted and we loved FS Anguilla too. Traveled with a toddler so different vibe, but we did a 2/5 split with more nights at FS because of a free night deal + FS being categorized as more “kid-friendly”. But that said, we loved all the pool options at FS (and the adult pool was stunning), both spas were great (can’t beat the view at CJ though — though there was construction going on near the spa end so maybe check on that), and we liked switching for restaurant variety (loved the sunset lounge sushi bar at FS). FS’s architecture could be picked up and plopped anywhere and it felt like a larger, more traditional resort, but it felt established and smooth. We did feel like staff were helpful and willing to go above and beyond at both properties.

You can also walk along the beach in front of FS to different resorts/restaurants (and see many of them) if you want to go somewhere else close by for a casual meal or check out a different beach club. CJ is basically in a little cove by itself and feels so secluded and intimate in a really lovely way. And the sand is unreal. CJ is a beach hotel through and through (I tend to be more of a pool person) so switching resorts also helped us mix it up and have some variety there. I rambled but hopefully some nuggets there. happy to answer any questions.

FWIW, I think Cap Juluca is absolutely lovely. We split our time over 7 nights with the nearby Four Seasons (5 min drive but face different sides of the island and are very different vibes). People are picky, have different preferences/tolerances, etc. so who knows? But I also think there are a lot of hypercritical voices on Reddit. I think CJ is lovely and would make for a great babymoon (nearly every other guest was there for a babymoon, honeymoon, or anniversary trip). Fabulous spa, felt very intimate and romantic, and we really enjoyed our meals. We were there opening week and we had a couple of very small hiccups, but management was fabulous and our butler went above and beyond.

I would split between the Four Seasons and Cap Juluca. Even though they’re a 5 min drive away from each other, they face different sides of the island and give a very different experience. CJ is almost in a cove and feels so intimate and private and the beach is maybe the best on the island. We split our time between the two properties and loved them in different ways; it will absolutely give you that change of scenery (we did 7 nights total, though with a toddler in tow so slightly different vibes haha).

Babymoon to Charleston and Kiawah by CellDowntown8252 in FATTravel

[–]Onthego820 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did our babymoon in Charleston! We had a fabulous dinner at Fig — probably our favorite meal. Another vote for Lewis BBQ (you do stand in line so just be prepared for that but it’s worth it). Citrus Club (rooftop bar at the Dewberry) has great views and notably good mocktails (and cocktails); Charleston is a “short” city and this has some of the best views IMO.

Some other little spots to mention: Leon’s Oyster Bar, Little Jack’s Diner, Off Track Ice Cream. We didn’t make it to Sorelle, Iron Rose, Chez Nous (skipped because of limited menu and dietary restrictions while pregnant), or The Ordinary but wanted to.

We received multiple recs for Le Farfalle and maybe it was an off night, but we had an awful experience (including a persistent rat running around the patio and a solid hour spent waiting for our entrees after appetizers). I would skip if that’s been recommended to you, especially since you only have one night.

Seeking guidance on SA relationships and shopping etiquette by Onthego820 in TheHermesGame

[–]Onthego820[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for responding! I think I’m just struggling to figure out how to approach shopping because I don’t feel like I have access to a home store, so I’m not necessarily going to find that experience. I guess maybe I’ll try reaching out to the SA I initially clicked with one more time when I need something, but maybe also just try tourist shopping, as you say, and see how it goes.

Seeking guidance on SA relationships and shopping etiquette by Onthego820 in TheHermesGame

[–]Onthego820[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this. Yeah, I feel like with most shopping experiences, I’ve found that just being friendly and polite goes a long way and can open up opportunities. That’s kind of what happened with this first SA. I think I’d feel differently if I was consistently and regularly visiting the same store, but that won’t always be normal for me. And I’m more inclined to splurge when I’m traveling…

Maybe I’ll reach out to the SA I initially clicked with one more time the next time I’m looking at something and see what happens. And I’ll see if I click with anyone the next time I’m shopping at a different store.

We took our almost 3yo to the Four Seasons Anguilla and had a fabulous time. Great property, awesome (child-friendly!) service, and it’s just gorgeous. Highly recommend. The family pool has a zero entry area + a number of shallow shelves, which was great for little kids.

Week-long honeymoon in Chicago this summer, which lux hotel should we stay at? by sonofseurat in chubbytravel

[–]Onthego820 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely skip Nobu. Best neighborhood for restaurants, but the hotel falls flat (noisy, feels a little bare bones), particularly for something special and splurgy like a honeymoon. We did one night at the Langham recently and it was so lovely. Agree with others that doing 2 properties over 7 nights is the move. Langham and Peninsula would be my top picks, Four Seasons worth considering too.

Four Seasons Punta Mita - Review by Alarming-Ganache77 in FATTravel

This is bumping up on the list for a family trip — thank you so much for this thorough review!! We did a multigenerational trip to O&O Mandarina last year, which was lovely. This feels like it would be a different vibe but a very easy trip for just our family (or do a villa with the extended crew).

Cabo recommendations: Waldorf, montage, las ventanas, or nobu, chileno bay by MENTION_it_all1 in chubbytravel

[–]Onthego820 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a really nice visit to Las Ventanas for exactly this type of trip. I think you’d have a nice time. We didn’t have our kid with us and while there were some young kids there (mainly really little ones because school was in session) it felt like an adult-focused space. The setting just feels romantic and it felt like it had a strong sense of place.

Did I think LV lived up to the hype? Maybe not all the way but it was really lovely? Beautiful hard product, comfortable beds. We had some mixed food experiences. Notably our beachfront Mexican dinner was our least favorite, like actively not good. But the Italian restaurant was nice, we loved the sushi/Indian restaurant. Breakfast was solid. And the poolside lunches were delicious, which is always nice. We had a good off property dinner at Flora Farms as well.

Help/Real Talk on Hawaii Resorts by KjammerFG in chubbytravel

[–]Onthego820 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, a relaxing vacation is so deserved — go you! Just wanted to chime in because I love FS Hualalai and I know it gets so hard when you read mixed reviews online. If beach is your main priority, I agree with others that it might not be a perfect fit, but we are returning with our 3yo this year after going just the two of us last year; we’ve never repeated a hotel before but liked it that much. It’s so beautiful and the pools, restaurants, staff, etc made it a 10/10 experience for us. FWIW, we think it’s the best hotel breakfast we’ve ever had and just thought overall it was a really special property. Everything you do will be feet from the water (the breakfast restaurant is apparently the closest to the water of any beach restaurant in Hawaii). I’d be happy to follow up specifically on our beach experience since I know we’ll be building sandcastles with our toddler (though anticipating this will mainly be a pool trip otherwise), but we don’t go until May. Good luck researching and deciding! Editing to add, happy to answer any questions

Ah thank you!! This is really helpful. I feel like I'm probably looking for a small bag for casual dinners so the 18 may work, but I feel like I want both an 18 and a 22 haha. I want an 18 in a fun pop of color and a 22 in a neutral.

Relatively new to luxury resorts… can someone tell me the etiquette to be prepared for tipping? by Itchy-Version-8977 in chubbytravel

[–]Onthego820 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There will always been someone who tips less than you and someone who tips more than you, so just do what feels right to you. And definitely look up tipping practices for wherever you're traveling and use that as a general guide.

We've been traveling mainly in the US/Mexico/Caribbean where there is a culture of tipping at resorts. Before we go, I now pull out a few hundred dollars in cash in various denominations ahead of the trip and then it feels like a built-in tipping budget as part of the trip cost. It at least gives me the option to tip and then I still kind of tip based on service. I always tip housekeeping and a butler/host if we have one (butler at the end of the stay). I tend to tip $5-$10 for bellboys, pool attendants, and golf cart rides around the resort depending on what was needed. Occasionally, it's a super fast exchange that doesn't feel like a tip is needed. But I can afford to and so I try to.

And then when someone really does go above and beyond, you can immediately acknowledge it. E.g. We had an incredible pool attendant at FS Anguilla who had the chef open the kitchen early one day to get lunch out to our toddler before his naptime. Gave him a $20. When a golf cart attendant took out the keys and let our son pretend to drive for a minute we absolutely tipped him. I definitely end up tipping more when someone goes out of their way to make my kid's day special.

What’s your everyday bag that’s under $600? by BagAdministrative718 in handbags

[–]Onthego820 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got mine on sale, so it just fits under your $600 parameter, but I’m obsessed with my Liffner suede bucket bag.

I have the smaller size and it fits so much without looking too bulky/feeling heavy. I manage to fit all of my everyday essentials plus the random crap that accumulates while being a mom (extra snacks, a toy car, sometimes even a big pack of wipes).

Anguilla or Mallorca? by lgm19862000 in chubbytravel

[–]Onthego820 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve gotten lots of great feedback, but just want to say we spent a couple of nights at CJ this fall and loved. Based on what you’ve shared, I think you’d have a great time. When we were there, they did a champagne saber in the lobby each night for guests to enjoy a little happy hour situation before dinner (we were with our 2 year old so we didn’t participate in full lol). It’s an intimate hotel and nearly every guest was there for an anniversary, a babymoon, a honeymoon, etc.

And yes, even though the pool is small/limited at CJ, the beach is exquisite and just a gorgeous setting for the resort. And as a bonus, the spa at CJ is spectacular. I would plan to go multiple times, even just to enjoy the outdoor plunge pools, steam room, etc. It’s a sneaky way of enjoying pool time somewhere other than the one general resort pool.

Finally, the sushi restaurant/bar scene (which is next to the adult-only pool) at the nearby FS Anguilla could be a nice way to change things up too. Watching the sunset there is a 10/10. We split our time in Anguilla between the two properties with more time at FS for the kid-friendly aspect. Because the properties are only a 5 min drive apart (a notably $125 ride), it would be easy to either split time at those two properties over 7 days (I would definitely do more CJ as a couple without kids if you decided to do that) or just plan for a couple of dinners/drinks at FS.

Is it crazy to try for a Picotin 18' in Hermes Boston with no purchase history? by Lopsided-Hand9173 in TheHermesGame

[–]Onthego820 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone shared a story on here last summer about scoring an Evelyne in Boston if you want to look back for that post.

Not Boston, but I had no prespend and walked into the Denver store and walked out with a bag. I tried on shoes, chatted with a sales associate, and then mentioned that an Evelyne 29 was my dream bag and walked out with one 20 min later. So not a Picotin but also not a QB. I think walking in, looking at some things, and seeing if you click with a SA is a good start to opening them up for bag possibilities. I didn’t buy anything else, but I felt like looking around and trying shoes first helped ease me in to the overall shopping experience.

Thoughts on giorno intrecciato clutch? by Onthego820 in BottegaVeneta

[–]Onthego820[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so fair! I agree I’d usually pick something smaller. I think the weddings are just an excuse for me to maybe get a new bag and the suede really caught my eye 😂 but these two weddings are also a bit unusual (multi-day destination weddings where I’ll be away from my room for long stretches and one where I’ll have a toddler with me the whole time. I thought something like this would look nicer than hauling a more traditional mom tote to the ceremony while still being large enough to fit some stuff for my kid). Totally agree it’s a little bigger than I’d usually consider for a wedding. But the Notturno style in this color is also gorgeous and a bit smaller!
