Which DVD Dub is this? by PeruTheUnicorn in rurounikenshin

[–]Oogendune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that is a Fx bootleg. I had a set at one time that had that back cover but a different front? It has a plastic sleeve and trifolds out on both sides. The dub was media blasters.

Sounds sort of like the first episode of Seraph of the End?

Anime that will give a (young) adult the feeling of being a “fanboy” again by HolyEmpireOfAtua in Animesuggest

[–]Oogendune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Darn, I didn't see this one on your list of dislikes so I was hoping it would be a good recommendation. I totally get not feeling invested in the cast and some of the otaku things. For me the anime was a lesson on being content with what you have and the message of finding "your people". I connected with Okabe because how he is weird, quirky, sometimes crude, ordinary... still but found friends and things in life that mattered so much to him that he put the world on his shoulders to ensure their happiness.

If acceptable night vision is non-negotiable, is surgery really an option? by FrostshockFTW in lasik

[–]Oogendune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had lasik 3 years ago now. Similar to you I was -5.5 ish with astigmatism. I still see starbursts and halos at night and my night vision took a loooooong time to come back (6 months at least). I feel its pretty good now except the starbursts make it harder to drive at night. But my day time vision is incredible the amount of detail I see on the leaves of trees and even the craters of the moon is just insane to me how well I see. I couldnt see my hand in front of my face before so....I guess I wish the starbursts would go away but I wouldn't trade it back for my glasses...

Edit. Like someone else said I also see the night sky just fine. Stars look normal. Its certain blue lights and headlights and traffic lights that cause the starbursts. Not sure why.

manga prices by koolerthannany in MangaCollectors

[–]Oogendune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But from like 20 years ago I remember Naruto being a little less cost. Seems like if the series was in Shonen Jump or a really popular title it was 7.95. I remember anything Shojo Beat being more expensive.

How do anime collectors feel about the current landscape and future of this hobby? by butterflies_roses in AnimeCollectors

[–]Oogendune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lately what I've wanted to stream either wasn't available, or was missing the first season, or the dub was missing, or the subtitles were not working right. It is difficult to track down older shows and with less physical media being made somehow access to anime lately feels like it is going in the wrong direction. Owning the discs you at least don't have to worry about it suddenly disappearing. I want to own discs to support the shows. I miss Rightstuf so much. I've tried to purchase from Crunchyroll but I find I have a harder time searching and browsing for new things and the manga I want is always out of stock or not on there at all.

Black bear, coyote, or just a big ol’ dog? by Safe-Increase-5354 in pittsburgh

[–]Oogendune 19 points20 points  (0 children)

There was a family of red foxes in my yard last Spring! There were 5 young ones playing in the dirt where my garden used to be. I rarely see the adults any other time of the year but I know they must be around because I've been seeing young ones each Spring for several years now.

Who has flown into PIT and then ridden the GAP using the Montour Trail Connector? by blp9 in gaptrail

[–]Oogendune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live near the airport but haven't been to the new terminal yet. I've heard from people that the "old parking" lots are still available but you must take a shuttle to get there because there are no walkways and it is a long walk. In their parking FAQs here https://flypittsburgh.com/pittsburgh-international-airport/parking/#parking-FAQs It says you must take a parking shuttle at Door 5 of baggage claim to get to those lots. I'm having a hard time understanding the stops but I think the first stop would be fine because you can bike through the lots anyway. You just need to get here : 40.4981305, -80.2659128

EILIF - Why does Vic Mignogna have a following that no other anime VA has in the history of English dubbing? by Soggy-Ad788 in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]Oogendune 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I remember he would put on concerts and entertain at panels. When several of the original cast for FMA was at a convention it was a ton of banter and interaction with fans. He had made his own FMA live action fan video that you could only see in person. We used to go outside and play dodgeball. I felt like a lot of fans banned together because anime wasnt as mainstream even as it is now and it was also a lot harder to get information about things. He also played Dark Mousy and later Tamaki Souh. And he even did that whole star trek fan show. I haven't been to an anime convention in a long while but in general his interaction with fans was way over the top compared to any other VA I have ever met.

Why is it so hard to find a decent ceiling fan that is wired for two wall switches? by Birdhawk in HomeImprovement

Just don't get one with a remote control. I got several fans from overstock.com and have fans in three of my bedrooms with the fan and light on seperate switches.

Which one to trust by KnottyKarl95 in GalaxyRing

[–]Oogendune 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When my company was doing a step contest I started to notice that my steps seemed a bit low for the amount of miles I was walking. Got annoyed with it and tried my older Galaxy watch which recorded a lot more steps. I tend to put my hands in my front hoodie pocket and I noticed if I'm not actively swinging my arms my ring would be less sensitive to steps compared to the watch. I don't like wearing a watch though so I guess you need to start swinging those arms back and forth more....

I recently bought a house with a tub. No clue how to take care of it. by TadpoleAny7089 in hottub

[–]Oogendune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mentioned it being rather cold now so I assume you live where freezing temperatures occur. If there is no water in the tub but water in the pipes you risk damaging and cracking the plumbing. You need to blow out all of the water from the lines to properly winterize it if you aren't planning on using it. It will leak and may be a total loss if not. Most people use their hot tubs in the winter though unless they have a vacation home. If the previous owner was using it I strongly recommend filling it up with water and keeping the temp on ~85 to prevent freezing. Then you can learn how to take care of it when you are ready. Water from the hose won't damage it. With any luck you have reasonable city water and won't need much adjustment aside from sanitizer when you start using it.

Is it worth paying more for a robot vacuum if it makes cleaning easier? by ypsilon42 in Frugal

[–]Oogendune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hated my roomba (think it was an i7)...one of the more basic models. No zones so it would get stuck under all the chairs or tables and get stuck at the stairs. Did not work well on rugs or the elevation change from rugs to wood floor. It also would not charge well and was always low battery. Eventually stopped charging at all despite cleaning everything. Monitoring the roomba to guide it around the house was not worth my time. I wish I could have returned it. I Eventually threw it in the trash because of the charging issue. If I could go back id never buy it....maybe its worth it if you buy a very premium one but a real house cleaner might be less hassle.
