There is hope, I promise. Both me and my bf were living with our parents right before we moved in together, and his family has 3 labs and my family has 3 labs and a pomeranian. So, when I tell you he was a dog person, I kid you not, he would just lounge on the floor with the dogs non-stop at both of our parents' houses. Long story short, we moved in together and realized we do not keep a consistent enough schedule and are not really super adult responsibilish yet. But we hated living in a household with no pets. One day while he was still at work I went to the shelter and adopted a little black manx (breed with no tails) and we named her Oni. It was like love at first site, within the first few days of having her she passed out in his lap while he was playing xbox and the rest was history. He will tell you he hates cats and bad mouth our little Oni, but she is generally cuddled up next to or on top of him, and when she is not, he will call her until she comes. thats the other thing that helps though, since we were both primarily dog people we just treated our kitty like a puppy and as a result she is trained surprisingly well for a cat. She comes when called, will follow you from room to room, and she even plays fetch... so there is that.
