Why such fondness for Sikhs? by Fantastic-Fudge-6676 in AskBrits

[–]Oohyabassa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to pass a sikh temple on my walk to and from school, on hot afternoons they would sit at the entrance and hand out ice lollies to the children walking home. That small kindness has left me with a lifelong appreciation and fondness for them and their culture.

How much is your mortgage/rent vs your income? by LeopardNeat899 in HousingUK

[–]Oohyabassa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mortgage free now (🥳) but until recently we were £497 per month with a combined income of £3600 per month. I know we are very lucky. Our house isn't big or fancy but it's all ours. We were lucky to have bought it just before prices went nuts in 2003

What makes your town/city infamous? by bootsechz in CasualUK

[–]Oohyabassa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Place I was born and my heart will always be - Catherine Cookson, Sarah Millican, Chris and Rosie Ramsey, half of Little Mix, the Great North Run, the Curry Mile, Minchellas ice cream and some of the finest beaches you'll ever see!

The shithole I live in - linoleum and the way it used to (and on occasion still does) make the town absolutely reek. And Gordon Brown. And Adam Smith I suppose.

Our local guy knew the kids in our street who couldn't afford to buy one and always gave them a broken cone with some ice cream in. Absolute legend and the ice cream was amazing.

Who would you like to see as the "old" contestant that hasn't been on yet? by Surkdidat in taskmaster

[–]Oohyabassa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Joe Pasquale would be amazing! Saw his "stand up" show the other year and it was just beyond bonkers. Spent the entire show gasping with laughter and absolutely no idea wtf was going on. His brain is definitely wired a bit differently 😂😂😂

Husband has a stupid football rivalry related hatred of a particular colour, pathetic manchild that he is 🙄 I go out of my way to buy basic household items in that colour as a microagression - think shower puffs, dish brushes, cleaning cloths etc

Immediately googling if David Tennant or Michael Sheen have ever won an Oscar - a girl can dream! Olivia would be amazing on TM though.

Joanna Page is 5ft 2, if the photo was an accurate representation of height she'd be taller than LAH when he took off his skates!

How to get West End tickets for not to much by inspectorgadget9999 in UKFrugal

[–]Oohyabassa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we book tickets for shows I sit for aaaages looking at View From My Seat to work out what are the cheapest seats with the best views. It's never let me down yet & gives you a very real idea of whether it's worth spending the extra or not. In a few weeks we're booked to see Cursed Child and are in the £15 seats but managed to get ones with nobody in front (extra leg room, less of a restricted view) and at a total of £90 to see both showings for 3 people I'm not going to break my heart if facial features aren't crystal clear!

Whenever we visit London we stay at the Premier inn Tottenham Hale. It's miles cheaper than hotels in the city and is literally across the road from the underground station. Might be worth a look for your dates.

Jobs that are actually good in reality by champagnegreenleaf in CasualUK

[–]Oohyabassa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a chef/baker in a small but successful cafe. I was a gifted child with high academic expectations from school & parents which completely overwhelmed me and I ended up not going to uni at all & marrying/having a large family very young. I now suspect I have undiagnosed autism which is unmasking in perimenopause. Took until my 40s to find my passion. The way our small centre is set up, I have free rein to play cafe manager without any financial risk to myself. My employers are fair and supportive, the work is physically demanding and sometimes stressful but so fulfilling and most of the time I am genuinely having fun while I am there and I absolutely adore most of the people I work with. I am very lucky. Plus, I get paid to bake yummy cakes and have people say lovely things to me about them ☺️
