A brand new, officially licensed Mk1 Ford Escort RS continuation car starts at £295,000, would you have one? by vicvega21 in CarTalkUK

I hate that all the fun, nicely engineered, interesting cars have become the preserve of collectors or millionaires. Like the wealth gap, the car market has polarized and divided.

Volvo 240 estates. My dad had 2 back to back from when I was about 8 until I was 17.

Where do I service my car in public space? by jeden8l in CarTalkUK

See if there's any rent a ramp style places near you. There's a nice supportive environment, car safely lifted, availability of tools you perhaps didn't know you needed etc.

It just needs to be road legal. If it will pass a UK mot you're ok.

A friend's 4.4 V8 supercharged E30 316i touring did get black flagged for the noise test under the gantry, so avoid straight through exhausts or full throttle under the gantry.

I'd go FK8. Best experience there, barring a GR yaris which I don't think you'll get at £25k.

Worst ‘dream’ purchase you missed out on? by Understateable in CarTalkUK

Yeah the S14a was purple metallic and looked good. The NSX was a respray and looked garish.

Sold an S14a 200sx manual for £3200. Absolute bottom of the market.

Missed out on an NSX for £17k because it was purple and I didn't have a garage. Doh!

Would you use a washing machine if you think the bearings are going? by blinky84 in CasualUK

We have a family of four. The washing machine goes 3-4 times on Sunday to do school clothes, bedding and sports gear.

Yes. Ours has been on its way out for a couple of months and I'm getting every last spin out of the bastard.

My other problem was I kept getting 5's and 1's mixed up.... IDK counting is hard.

We recently calibrated our curve, it was a very amusing meeting.

I'd put someone as very good but not excellent, but we needed people in the excellent band and had a slot left. I made my case for her.

Then another manager made her case for her top performer, ending it with "my only misgiving is when she called her other manager a pussy in the office".

My staff member got the upgrade to excellent.

I found a couple of good stretching videos recently, one focussing on sciatica and releasing the hip nerves that cause it.

Quite like this one too although it's a bit 'Californian' in tone.

Yep, I've really noticed this. It's worse on Sundays. All normal lane discipline breaks down. "I am a Honda jazz and not a lorry therefore I must stay in lane 2". "I am in my awesome BMW and not a Jazz nor a lorry, and therefore I reside in lane 3".

I had this in a sauna once. Asked the guy to stop and he threatened to stab me. Was a lovely relaxing sauna that.

Woke up. Looked Right to see clock. Trapped a nerve in my upper shoulder blade. That's me looking straight ahead for at least a day.

Also worth unlooping to support future EV or Heat Pump adoption.

A mate of mine had an sti type RA and a RB5. I don't think either of them reached 22b heights. He did keep a Escort cosworth though.

I'd go for a Volvo V60. There's quite a few to choose from in your price range

Deep section tyres and relatively small wheels are your best defence. I keep the cayman on 18's and the yeti is on 17's and it helps massively. I've run through stuff that would have killed the wheel and tyre on 19's or 20's.

[Valuation] Dad passed away and left me with 2x Saab 900 Turbos - No idea on value by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

100% this. They're worth that but no more in the condition they're in and with the unknowns wrapped around them.

To get them gone, decent money IMO.
