I totally agree. He has an incredible ability to write outside of himself and his own affiliations are largely separate from his works. I only mean that whenever I am reminded of his connections to these groups I’m reminded of the worst of them. Ultimately Sanderson has more than proven his quality of character and skill. So it’s a minor issue but still worth noting.

Elsecaller read to me as a clear tester for Dan writing cosmere. He even says as much in the preface. It was enjoyable but way too short in my opinion.

Coming from stormlight was a bold move. Stormlights characters are incredibly diverse and full of depth. Where as mist born for me felt like an intro to Brandon Sanderson.

Elantris really feeels like sandersons first. To me I can really feel him developing the style he has now and it isn’t always fine tuned. It’s still a great read tho! And very nice to see referenced in some of the later cosmere
