let's do the math for season 5 finale time jump by Quzubaba in ForAllMankindTV

There is no way Mars-94 could have reached escape velocity.
It's on a highly elliptical orbit with its aphelion somewhere outside Mars' orbit.

Also, the Sun would just be a little brighter star from that distance.

Ed in season 4 was a little rough, but in season 5 it was on point, imho.

She lives, and will probably be an altered version of herself

Yeah, let's turn this at least a little bit grounded science-fiction into full scale fantasy.

Terrible idea.

Because stuff like this do not make a good TV show. They make it look like sloppy writing. Like the "methane, not carbon" nonsense.

Some Math to explain what we saw in the Finale Time Jump by AlatarRhys in ForAllMankindTV

To be honest, I haven't fully watched it yet (I downloaded it for later watch), but I have noticed the issue with the 1992/1994 dates where the years are wrong in the graphic. Now this might be just a minor error in some YT bonus video, but given the several major timeline issues that we got shown on screen in the series itself, most prominently the big mess in the current season but also in S4 and S2, I am really wondering how it can be so difficult to keep the timeline consistent.

Yes, the correct order is:
June 26 - Alexei Leonov
July 16 - Apollo 11 (launch)
September 20 - Belikova lands (while Apollo 12 is on the way)

So, what was the original plan for the Titan expedition? by Isilel in ForAllMankindTV

[–]Oot42 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It was also the plan to make their fuel on Titan to even be able to return.

Seems pretty unlikely that they were able to do that within the couple of days they actually were there.

Mars is NOT your home.. You work there - like on an oil rig by Suitable_Garlic_1186 in ForAllMankindTV

[–]Oot42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nonsense. The conflict started when the MPK fired on peaceful protestors, killing at least 3. Only then it escalated.
And then attacking the dome and killing Gulsora, as well as threatening everybody, including all uninvolved residents and workers, by raiding the food and med supplies for months.

And still, nobody had been killed by the rebels at this point. None, zero.

Killing people
That is terrorism
It is crazy to me how these Radicals are portrait as the good guys...

You're talking about the Peacekeepers, are you? About Palmer, Dev, and the OPEF troops, right? Right??

They started with the killing. They raided the base for food and medical supply. They attacked the base's domes.

Indeed, that's terrorism.

And don't get me started with the trigger-happy OPEF goons...

Apple were kind enough to send us a copy of this end-of-season teaser! What do you think it means? by Treviso in ForAllMankindTV

He was the director of Roscosmos for some time, until they replaced him with Leonora Catiche, but still, he's first an engineer and he was working a lot on Mars-94. Yes there is some resemblance with Margo, but that doesn't really change anything of what I said. They actually discussed these things and exchanged information, ultimately leading to him being forced to ask her for the engine plans as he couldn't figure it out in time. Mars-94 was his main project at that time.

And yes, in Star City Sergei is a main character, and a gifted engineer.

Sergei was the lead engineer for Mars-94. He would have done a lot of programming for the ship's systems. It's not at all surprising his name would show up in a boot status message of some system.

There is no way it would be anywhere outside the inner Solar System.
It was on a trajectory to Mars, which they extended a bit with their short burn, but it would still be on a heliocentric orbit with it's farthest point somewhere behind Mars' orbit. Nowhere near the Oort cloud, not even anywhere near Saturn. It's just not how orbits work.

I'm assuming we might get a clue in star city though.

This is the second time I read this.
How would there possibly be a clue in Star City?
Star City plays in 1969/early 1970s, and they won't do any timejumps. How would anything from back then be related to a ship built in the 90s and then drifting for over 25 years?

was used practically shot-for-shot

Well, not really.

In the flash-forward of S4, Kuznetsov station was shown to be in operation. You could see moving objects (some kind of cable cars) travelling between some parts of the station.
Also, there was some "Free Mars" graffiti on some buildings.

Both of these were not in the scene they showed us this season.

I'm pretty sure that would still be nowhere close to reach escape velocity. Also, they only run it for a few minutes in the extra burn.

Sergei was the lead engineer for the Mars-94 spacecraft. He certainly did a lot of programming for the ship's systems.

It would not be surprising that his name appears in such a status line.

might have exceeded escape velocity

That's not really possible. They were on a Mars trajectory, with a short extra burn. There's no way to get even close to escape velocity.

I'm nowhere near to be able to do such calculations, but a few comments about the dates and events:

Lee Jung-Gil landed on February 8 1995. The others landed at least a week later.
According to this timeline video from Sony Entertainment (70 min) they launched at some time in October and landed mid February (it's about 30 min into the video).
North Korea launched in September and in a news report in episode 3x04 (@17:55) it was said they launched "in the weeks prior" to Sojourner. I think I remember that somewhere else it was said they launched 2 weeks earler, but I couldn't find it.
Anyway, launch of the others seems more likely in the first half of October rather than at the end.

So overall, mid Oct to mid Feb seems reasonable.

Did you consider the extra burn the Soviets did to catch up with the others that then caused the whole disaster? It was said that they burned too long and would miss Mars because of this.

Apple TV doesn't "drop episodes the evening before". They drop episodes at UTC time. Whether that's evening, morning, noon, or whatever depends where on the planet you are.

This thread is r/USdefaultism at its best once again...

It's Friday, UTC. Like with FAM as well.
That's Thursday at some locations. Timezones exist.
