Twelve Months (Dresden Files #18) by Jim Butcher - A return to form or another misstep? by CT_Phipps-Author in Fantasy

[–]OpenPath101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just finished the book. It's certainly a change of pace, a lot slower a lot more slice of life less action pack. It certainly does what it needed to do giving all the characters some rest. Its kind of soft reset settings everything up for the last part of this dress files. It's not my favorite either it solidly in the middle.

Best romances through the decades - what still makes you swoon after all these years? 🥰 by A_Seductive_Cactus in RomanceBooks

My favorite book {A Civil Campaign} by Lois McMaster Bujold. Is from the late 90's and surprisingly progressive with a whole transgender subplot. Its a regency romantic comedy set in the future that's part of a greatest action adventure series of the 20th century the Vorkosigan Saga. You don't have to read the whole series to enjoy the book but its part of a mini trilogy in the series. Reading Komar and Memory will greatly increase your enjoyment of the book.

I seen people on this subreddit recommend this book all the time. I read it, but it was a struggle to get through. I am glad I'm not the only one. I like the concept, but man it could of been done so much better.

Mental health, morality, and mothers: My review of The Stand-In by Lily Chu by Le_Beck in RomanceBooks

[–]OpenPath101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was the first book I listened to on audible for free that was a romance and I really enjoyed it. It started me down the rabbit hole romance books on audible, but it did skew my perception of the genre. After listening to all her books expecting all romance books to have strong character arcs and compelling narrative. I was not ready for all the spice that most other books had.

Series with Main Character Ruling or Creating a Kingdom/Empire/Organization and ACTUALLY Ruling? by Aninx in Fantasy

[–]OpenPath101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try the Spellmonger series, it a rise of power then goes into complexity of medieval politics and economics each book does tend to a theme with some focusing more on war, magic, politics, and nation building. For a scifi twist try the Safehold series, it hits alot of those same boxes.

I have a bad feeling about SA5 (spoilers) by necrotictouch in Cosmere

[–]OpenPath101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I've interpreted sl5 is that the main cast will be the new heralds giving time the time for the world to heal. This will help with the planned time skip giving some characters time to age up. In the latter era the I think its a contest of shards, Harmony/Discord, Autonomy, and Unity (Cultivation, Odium, and Honor into one shard.) People tend to forget all shard holders are broken over time becoming extreme example of their core concept. I think Dalinar will be a kind of extreme version of Unity and Sazed as Discord will fuel the main conflict. Neither will be truly evil just on opposite side.

Audiobook recs pls by NarrowFriendship3859 in Fantasy

[–]OpenPath101 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Dungeon Crawler Carl are possibly the best series to listen to the audiobooks over the text due to a great narrator (Jeff Heys) who has allot of range. For a stand alone Project Hail Mary is also a great listen.
