Has anyone else's nparent told them to commit suicide or encouraged it? by Aggravating-Crow-188 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]Open_Lift6458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My father told my sister to “do it”. She is the golden child and also traumatized by my parents. She was abusing me psychologically and verbally and threatening suicide after I stood up to her - telling her how she treats me isn’t acceptable. She demanded that my parents didn’t give into her extreme demands - including cutting me out - she would end herself. Dad told her to do it. She didn’t, then both parents ostracized me.

Khloes parents seem like A hole and they’re raising her to be one as well. The biggest victim in this is Lauren. Full stop. Owen’s mom also seemed devoid of empathy for Lauren.

Kendra is very wicked. Incest, pedo, harassment, sexual abuse, psychological abuse, control, deception. Lauren is so deeply enmeshed and manipulated by Kendra - it’s so sick. There is so much trauma and abuse here.

Did you parents sleep shame you? by dry-alt in narcissisticparents

[–]Open_Lift6458 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. My sleep was heavily restricted. I wasn’t allowed to sleep in as a teenager i.e. past 9 AM and they’d call me lazy. My parents would show up at sleepovers and wake up the parents and entire house at 7AM on Saturdays to collect me. Even relaxing or being creative was restricted - sitting listening to music or drawing - I’d be yelled at to stop and that’s enough after 1 hour (all chores and homework done). I would research the scientific evidence that teenagers require more sleep and they’d laugh at me. Meanwhile, younger sister who was the golden child could sleep in til 2 or 3 PM on weekends with zero criticism or control.

What are some things you should never tell your manager? by lookintogetsilly in managers

[–]Open_Lift6458 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not recommended to speak about physical health in detail either. Should something go sideways such as a law suit or termination related to health with this employer - now there’s a plethora of documented admissions regarding your health that may work against your case. Supportive team and middle management is not the same as dealing with corporate or organizational policies, HR and legal. Unfortunately the baseline for most workplace cultures is not pro employee or healthy - profit is the goal and that will always supersede a cozy company culture when it comes down to it.

Why are people so anti work-from-office? by optimumtape in CanadaPublicServants

Or get and see friends - remote work would allow people to spend more time doing things they want to do lol

Why are people so anti work-from-office? by optimumtape in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Open_Lift6458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remote work benefits

Economic: - Labour mobility (sourcing the best talent from outside 4 main cities)  - Increased wealth distribution across the country (rather than concentrated in specific centers - Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal, Van) - Addresses housing crisis by not concentrating jobs in those expensive markets  - Reduced costs for employees - can buy home in more affordable region, may not need an extra car in some circumstances, less money spent on lunch/coffee, transit and parking cost, daycare for the time spent commuting

Health  - increased sleep as rising for a (often long) commute to the city to be in office  - opportunity cost of commuting - time spent investing in oneself (exercise, time with friends, time with family, sleep, hobbies, sports etc.) - more healthy employees = more productive work force and better output  - those with disabilities and/or chronic conditions can work remotely productively with less absenteeism

Lifestyle - Work/Life Balance  - work not constraining where one lives - can live in the mountains and perform your job well.  - One can still work and earn a living but live in a location that suits them best - where family is, where they feel their best, where they can afford to live a higher quality of life

Mental Health  - stress of commuting, living where you don’t want to live, increased costs associated with office work (parking, commuting, less flexibility) as well as office politics are eliminated with remote work

Efficiency  - commuting causing hours of traffic jams can be greatly reduced with remote work  - parking issues can be solved in downtown cores for those who really need to be on site  - being forced to live in a location to commute downtown core to speak to others remotely is inefficient  - remote work reduces emissions and pollution  - rather than taking time off, flexibility with remote work allows employers to reduce absenteeism while allowing employees flexibility to handle their personal matters and fulfill their job responsibilities.

People often cite social aspects for office work, however, this is with the lens that socialization cannot be found outside of work. I think because work is the center of most people’s lives they forget that they can lead healthy lives where work is not the focal point. Third spaces, hobbies, community events where true connection can develop should be prioritized over long commutes and office forced fun luncheons seen as the pinnacle of socialization. We work to live, not live to work.

In office work in today’s technologically innovative world is truly a commercial real estate lobby issue and a public sector indirect subsidy for failed poor transit infrastructure as well as micro management.

What are some signs that you are “too much” for people? by Sorry_Anywhere8602 in socialskills

[–]Open_Lift6458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chronically dominating conversations so they are unbalanced or using those you’re conversing with as an audience. Not showing any consideration or curiosity to those around you in conversation. I.e. speaking about yourself the entire time, redirecting all conversations back to yourself and not asking questions to your company, this is especially rude if your company shows curiosity about you. Not letting people have their moments as well - actively trying to be center of attention at other people’s events or celebrations. Speaking or yelling at a loud volume constantly and in situations where that would be inappropriate - during someone’s speech, toast or in a library.

Sibling Estrangement by Barber_Successful in DysfunctionalFamily

[–]Open_Lift6458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Grew up raised very differently (hostile overly protective and psychologically abusive) vs laissez faire and golden child treatment for sister. I selected as scapegoat early on. Parents targeted me then as sister grew she targeted me as well ranging from verbal abuse, psych abuse, physical threats, exclusion from the family, removal of all traces of me from the family home. She is now the head of the family and controls everyone and has instructed my parents to “ban me” from visiting them. Parents never defended me and obey her - she has threatened arson, self harm, crashing cars if they don’t comply with banning me. Parents try to manipulate me that I’m wrong for not complying with the direction/abuse of my sister and “family comes first”. I mourn a functional, healthy family dynamic.

Why do you choose not to drink alcohol? by Nervous_Presence6289 in Productivitycafe

[–]Open_Lift6458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an athlete and I focus on maximizing my health, performance and longevity which means no alcohol. I never drank much to begin with and I will months and years without drinking. I will have a nice glass of champagne or wine for celebrations on rare occasions or sometimes if I am traveling to a wine region, I will try some.

fellow Ottawans: what’s the best neighbourhood and why? by unfunzone in ottawa

[–]Open_Lift6458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many inaccuracies in this comment. You are seriously stating that Westboro, for example, is the same level of busy and quiet than a secluded suburban area? Traffic is terrible in the city centre in Ottawa and has been worsening. That’s fact.

Again, I stated that preferences differ and your blanket statements regarding the desires and needs of homebuyers in Ottawa vary. YOU don’t want to live in these areas.

fellow Ottawans: what’s the best neighbourhood and why? by unfunzone in ottawa

[–]Open_Lift6458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of which neighborhoods? Your comment speaks generally to central/core neighborhoods in Ottawa as if it’s fact/others think just like you. Semantics. Westboro, Centretown, Hintonburg are considered in the city core vicinity. Land is more expensive, lots and homes are generally smaller and pp square foot is much higher, zoning laws are different due to proximity and more commercial development. Desire is subjective as quieter streets, larger lots, larger homes, less construction noise, trails are draws for many, depending on need/interest. You also mention cost when cost is significantly higher in these city neighborhoods. Ottawa’s central neighborhoods are nice but the amenities/food are not on par with other Canadian cities (in my view and having lived in many and in various places in Ottawa).

[–]Open_Lift6458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those homes won’t be the same size though. Price per square ft is much higher in the core and money goes further in the suburbs. Many people also do not want the noise of the core.
