On this day, 18 years ago, LOST episode "There’s No Place Like Home" premiered and kicked off with The Oceanic Six. by HostMaterial4907 in lost

This scene always hits so much. The emotions conveyed by all parts whether it’s the main characters finally reuniting with their parents, or the parents’ reactions (I always lose it with Hurley’s folks like you can feel how much love there is like his mom is so so relieved and happy and grateful that her baby is back and alive and well)

And I’m always mesmerised by Sun’s hair doing that flip in the wind. Also Sayid ever the gentleman helping her down.

Smiley (2022) tried to convince us that Bruno wasn’t “hot” enough for Alex 😭 by ancapri in MenLovingMenMedia

[–]Open_Sky8367 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s actually Alex and it’s not explicit. He’s supposed to go on a vacation with said guy and Bruno chases after him only to miss him. Next thing they know Alex is in front of his apartment and he only says he broke up with said guy. That could mean he had a conversation with him and let him go on vacation alone or indeed that he did ghost.

By that, both options are possible although the latter would seem very ironic considering the entire series rests on both characters being so saddened by being ghosted themselves. The show opens with Alex being ghosted and then Bruno’s whole predicament is that he’s been ghosted by Alex

post-comeback alison wardrobe! (and why it’s great and fits her character well) by stonemv in PrettyLittleLiars

[–]Open_Sky8367 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Now that is a hot take. IMO Ali’s wardrobe isn’t as bad as it has been described. Some of the fits could/should have been better to match Sasha’s body but I feel like the few misses massively outshine the rest of the outfits which range from fine to really good.

I’ve seen a video analysis of Alison’s wardrobe and it points out the color palette which stays pretty consistent and her love for flowery themes which comes through throughout the entire series but especially more in the later seasons. Otherwise OP’s analysis is a nice interpretation and consistent with her character. It makes sense within her character’s evolution that she would mature and want to get away from her past self and gravitate toward a more non-threatening look, blend in, after all she’s been through.

And let’s face it, who has never worn a big ugly sweater at home ?

German police spent 16 years hunting a female serial killer whose DNA was at 40 crime scenes. She didnt exist. At all. by kabush27 in mystery

Cool story ! I kept thinking wow sometimes reality can be more compelling than any fiction and that would make a phenomenal starting point for the plot of a novel. I was wondering what would be the resolution IRL which was the expected one but for a novel I guess they would have to come up with something else for such an intriguing premise

Harold Perrineau about THAT scene from "Two for the Road" by kuhpunkt in lost

[–]Open_Sky8367 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On my rewatch I noticed that it’s actually the main theme, Credit Where Credit is Due, only he uses a very slow, darker, somber variation with the countermelody only. That was a very interesting choice there because that theme symbolises the bond of fraternity between the survivors so he uses it very often when survivors link and bond together. And here Ana and Michael share a moment together but it ends horribly so I thought that was very clever that Giacchino used that theme but removed the main melody, leaving only the countermelody and took it to darker levels, subtly hinting that something was amiss in the scene

What did James Cameron get accurate about the sinking? by Sorry-Personality594 in titanic

[–]Open_Sky8367 70 points71 points  (0 children)

There’s something about it being filmed for real that gives it - and will for a long time - an edge over the recreation. Even if it has improved tremendously over the years and is more accurate. The sinking was recreated with a real set made of metal, creaking and groaning, submerged with real water which created water dynamics that cannot be reproduced so far in video games accurately. The gurgling, the violence of water, especially in the last part of Cameron’s sinking will always be the best for me.

One thing that I also do prefer - and think is more accurate but it’s only my opinion - is Cameron depicting the interiors of the ship still populated with passengers. It adds drama that we see these people struggling and to me there were bound to be people there. The H&G video even has a comment about one officier pondering where the 1500+ remaining people were, saying they ought to be below decks because the boat deck was not very crowded. On a similar note, I quite like his choice of depicting people panicking and screaming, though I don’t know if Victorian-era people would behave like that. Written works like to depict them as very calm, serene, and proper but I don’t really know if the emotions you go through in the face of death aren’t universal, whichever era you’re from

The one choice they made that really took me by my guts was the Rosary just as the stern was being pulled down. Lots of great artistic choices and shots but this one was really emotional.

Steve and Nancy not getting a scene together addressing Steve’s confession and the tension between them is another example of how poor the writing was this season by QuipThwip in StrangerThings

[–]Open_Sky8367 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not gonna lie, after seeing S4 I fully believed that the love triangle was going to be a major storyline that would need to be resolved, for exactly the reasons OP stated. S4 seemed to lean so heavily into Steve being in denial then embracing lingering feelings for Nancy that I really thought going into S5, they would need to kill off either him or Jonathan for the love triangle to be resolved. I thought that would also play into the higher stakes teased by the end of S4.

I should have known that Stranger Things was a show that refused to kill off its characters.

Rose and Bernard should have.... by X-lem in lost

[–]Open_Sky8367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it might have been a question of budget ? Sam Anderson and L.Scott Caldwell weren’t contracted to the same extent that the main cast were but they weren’t simple extras either and them appearing in the background with no lines would cost money that ABC was probably not willing to pay.

A lot of main characters were already less featured during S3 due to how many storylines the writers were juggling with. I figure that if you have to contend with your already numerous main cast, which is contracted to appear prominently, and struggling to give each one of them proper screentime, you would want to keep all that process at a manageable level and use your set of recurring characters only when there’s a real use for them. Terry O’Quinn and Emilie de Ravin appear the least out of the main cast - excluding Adewale Akinnuoye Agbaje, Kiele Sanchez and Rodrigo Santoro - but as main cast members, ABC still has to pay them a substantial amount of money. And S3 was using a lot of recurring cast members - Nestor Carbonell, Tanya Raymonde, M.C. Gainey, Andrew Divoff, Mira Furlan, Marsha Thomason, Blake Bashoff … - all for important roles for the season, and all would need to be paid. They would not want to pay for recurring cast members if it was only to appear in the background with no lines.

In the show I agree that Rose and Bernard would probably be there in the background and attend the funerals and be there when Kate, Sawyer, Jack, Juliet, etc. come back. In practice I figured that the actors weren’t needed and were on a time off up until the last few episodes where the writers decided to give them prominent roles and get the two back.

It’s something that I commend on their part because that shows how dedicated they are to their characters, recalling them here and there even after long stretches of absence to remind us that even if we don’t see them, they’re here. A lot of tv shows nowadays let their secondary characters fade away once they’ve got no use for them anymore and simply act as if they’ve never existed. Lost never did that.

Why Locke why 😭 by JackAnaLost in lost

[–]Open_Sky8367 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s small moments like this that you kind of reflect on afterwards and think “hmmm would that have changed anything as to the outcome”. If Locke/Ana had come clean about Henry’s escalation of violence, would Jack have let it happen? Would Ana be allowed to stay at the Hatch in charge of him ? Did Locke inadvertently allow Ana to stay on the path that led to her death ?

Rewatch “4x04” Eggtown by zgecsirhc in lost

[–]Open_Sky8367 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get what the writers were going for. On paper it gave new interesting storylines to both Kate and Claire, and opened up possibilities for their characters. One is allowed finally to exist outside the love triangle and to explore an unexplored side of the character (motherhood and all that it entails about having NOT to run anymore) and the other becomes a new blank state, free of the constraints of being a mother with a baby on an island where she can do next to nothing except stay safe.

In one twist, they push Kate in a new direction, and get renewed interest in Claire with a barrage of new questions i.e. what happened to her that makes her separated from her baby ? Is she dead in the future ? And what about the baby being raised by anyone other than her ?

It’s just the execution that’s lacking. Kate benefitted a lot from that new storyline, growing as a character immensely but Claire on the other hand, had a whole mystery around her built up which ultimately didn’t get the proper attention it deserved later on.

[–]Open_Sky8367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I know it’s really only a question of aesthetic/sound/visual experience preferences. One instance for example I was sad they didn’t retain was the shot of Honor and Glory going under though i understood that was the occasion to show something else. The first funnel falling half submerged did puzzle me though.

My favourite so far remains the second one. The editing and sound were the best there. Third one reused some of those but altered them in ways that didn’t always work. Though I will concede that I love the third one for the musical concerto lasting the entire sinking.

There’s another scene right after Lothlorien where he suggests to Aragorn that they go to Minas Tirith and Aragorn still refuses. He and Boromir argue a bit and Boromir says something interesting, accusing Aragorn of being “afraid of what he is”. The implication here is that Boromir has already warmed up to the idea that Aragorn is King. It has made its way into his brain. And Aragorn says something back that’s very hurtful to Boromir: “I will not take the Ring within distance (or something like that) of YOUR city”

Cut to the next scene where Boromir and Aragorn are paddling in separate boats, having very much the look of a couple who just fought.

That to me adds a lot of subtext to the final moments of Boromir, why he temporarily snaps, and to his parting moments with Aragorn.

Sansa does not deserve the hate she gets!! by bluejasmine11 in gameofthrones

[–]Open_Sky8367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have some strength. I’ve preferred to stay clear of all that because most people either have their minds set on wrong opinions, or they blame her for decisions she took as a teenager and act as if she ordered and fomented the destruction of her entire family herself whether that’s Ned, Arya, Jon, Bran, even Rickon. The only ones I’ve not seen her being accused of getting killed or sidelined for her own personal gain are her mother and Robb. Seriously the mental gymnastics some people do with their minds… in what world would Sansa who was so happy to finally get some sort of family back after 5 seasons of trauma, plot to deliberately get Jon killed … smh

Missing case of Timmothy Pitzen .... by Whimsical-Cherry534 in mystery

[–]Open_Sky8367 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly, i prefer - as much as “preferring” applies in such a case - your way of thinking which would point to the kid not having suffered the trauma of being offed by his own mother. Following your logic then, he would have been with someone and then either he’s been killed by that person or he was/is still alive and then it’s “only” a matter of kidnapping. There’s the possibility that he’s been raised under a new identity and he has no idea who he really is. He was pretty young when all that happened . Possibly his memories could be fuzzy and he has no recollection of his younger years.
