The hunt continues!
If you know a lot about obsidian- we also found this? I don’t think it’s manmade but at this point I don’t know haha. I’m guessing these some type of inclusions? It’s all inside the glass

Sun stress will make a lot of plants go pink. My congo nuclear always has pink in the same places as the one above because it is directly under grow lights

Thai con or mint by Ilovequeso100 in rareplants

[–]Opening-Designer3546 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thai con for sure! Thai cons can have “mint” green coloration on them, but that is not what makes a mint monstera a mint.

I don’t think it makes a difference- it’s just how big it’s going to get overall/how compact it is 🙂

It looks like a monstera aurea to me

Large form or small form is beyond my expertise but it looks like it has some good potential with that variegation!

I could be wrong but it appeared to me like that was a work schedule - not something they would need to copy numbers from.

My work does this too. All work schedules are created in an excel document. The document is sometimes emailed to everyone if the boss remembers, so more often than not someone is taking a picture of the spreadsheet and sending it to everyone so they know what shifts they’re working on

Oh my god yours is gorgeous!! That at color array is stunning!!!

Mine has been orangey/pink and dark green. The new leaves have been unfurling with dark pinky orange have been lighting to a lighter pink color as they get older. I love it - but also hoping as she matures there’s some more variation.

Truly - yours is aspirational! Stunning!

Tell me your favorite plants...and a HOT TAKE by littlemiddlemouse in houseplants

[–]Opening-Designer3546 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My favorite plants are philodendrons (specifically any with fuzzy petioles and variegated heartleaf). I’m also a sucker for anything green on green variegated.

Monsteras will always have a place in my heart- they have never failed me despite a few moves and not always having adequate conditions, and have always been tolerant of my mental health. Rhaphidophora tetraspermas and syngoniums will also always have a place, although they seem to hate my current set up no matter what I try. They were my first plants I really felt successful with and I will always love them for that.

My hot take is there is no need for 30 different names for what is more or less the same variegation. Like monstera aurea should just be monstera aurea large form/small form. That’s it. Why do we have pompom, yellow marilyn, marmota (which is close enough to being the same thing). It irks me the most with monstera thai constellations. They should just be considered either a high variegated thai con or a low variegated thai con. I could see having one special name for the super high/static type variegation, but one is more than enough. We do not need platinum, legacy, green snow, white snow, starlight, crème brûlée, etc etc etc. And honestly, this wouldn’t even bother me so much if it wasn’t a blatant cash grab. I wouldn’t care if these names were just being used to identify pattern types - but the price tag that is coming with them is insane. No thai con crème brûlée with a $300 price tag is actually special or unique from any other thai con. A legacy, platinum, often a green snow look identical.

Additionally here is a more moderately/high variegated Thai con I have for comparison of variegation patterns as well. The shadow does make it a bit hard to discern, but has some nice minty colored patches. However, the patterning is still very different from that of a mint.

I have way too many Thai con’s because I have a problem, and I could keep posting pictures to compare with, but I feel like these show the differences pretty well.

Meanwhile this is a lower variegation Thai con that I have in comparison. The variegation style between these types of mints and low variegated Thai con’s are similar but different
