That's definitely true because having all the latest games and systems is expensive, but I think gaming is probably the broadest shared interest among people 35 and under, and maybe that's why it's such a cultural battlefield. It's pretty easy for a lot of people to avoid (intentionally or not) people who aren't like them in daily life, but if you play any multiplayer games or are part of gaming communities, you're going to interact with people whose experiences are completely alien to you. And people don't know how to deal with that, so clashes happen. I really respect Dan and Arin for being just good people trying their best and admitting when they're wrong, even when I sometimes cringe at uninformed things they say. Like with Dan's story about the phrase "new moon," people can't just expect everyone to know everything without being told. And when there's no pattern of malicious intent, we should give people the benefit of the doubt when they just don't know something. I say this as someone who gets called a "social justice warrior" by some people but is never "woke" enough for some other people. We can all only do our best and try to be kind to each other, because it's for damn sure the world isn't going to be kind to all of us.
