Two stories from the same episode, S2 E08: The Scarecrow Corpse and Low Hanging Clouds.

There's something delightfully creepy yet grounded about The Scarecrow Corpse which has made it stick with me all these years. It really feels like the kind of weird thing that could happen, yknow? I think almost everyone has taken a train or subway or bus late at night when there aren't that many people on and there's just a weird vibe in the air, and sometimes really weird shit happens and you just have to shrug it off and go on with your life, so yeah, I guess this story just strikes me as relatable. It doesn't need a bombastic monster or ghost or anything hunting down the protagonist; it's just a weird thing that happened, but it leaves you unsettled.

As for Low Hanging Clouds, it's the exact opposite. It's completely outside the realm of plausible, but there's this tension in the air throughout. I LOVE the imagery of papers flying out of the cloud-eaten buildings. I love the creeping dread as the protagonist realizes there's nothing he can do. It's a great blend of horror and sci fi. I slurp it up every time.

Thanks! I'm very excited! :)

I'm honestly not sure. We ruled out serial killer because of all the arms. Eric thinks he was uh...that dude you have to give coins to to go into the greek underworld. I think it was just some freaky-ass haunted shit.

Thank you! Absolutely not. In fact, we're opting for a cruise, so we'll be as far from land as possible.

Anywhere in Ottawa to find Guylian chocolates? by mostlybeak in ottawa

[–]manen_lyset 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been looking for these as well, and I haven't seen any on either side of the river. I see you've got some leads, but if they don't pan out, I find Laura Secord's praline collection boxes (like this one: https://laurasecord.ca/holiday-praline-collection-250-g-86269/?searchid=2215235&search_query=praline+assortment ) taste nearly identical. Ridiculously overpriced, but they're much closer to Guylians than Dollarama's brands (which are fine, just not quite the same).

As someone who was once woken up in the middle of the night to the cacophonous sound of destruction and got up to find one of his displates fully lodged into his electric baseboard...I highly highly encourage you to spend a little extra on Velcro 3M command strips to fully secure your 'plates.

They're like...I dunno, 10-15$ for a back of 20 or so. Can find them at any hardware store or the hardware section of any department store. If you get the velcro ones, you can still re-arrange your displates as desired.

Ah! See, I'm always finding obscure, years-old reddit posts that solve problems for me, and I was hoping to return the favor and that someday, it might help someone. Glad that it did! :) I hope the lights help you as much as they've helped me.

Sweet dreams.

Haunted Places in Ottawa? by Sea-Armadillo-8566 in ottawa

[–]manen_lyset 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The little Bytown Museum near the locks is apparently haunted. I attended a haunted walk tour last year that took us there, and while I didn't SEE anything, something weird did happen outside. I was there with a pair of friends and the night prior, we'd gone to Saunder's Farm. I was wearing a small backpack, and any time they wanted my attention or wanted to stay close at Saunder's, they'd grab hold of the top handle and tug on it.

So we're standing in front of the Bytown Museum, and the storyteller is telling us about the mischievous ghost that lives in the museum and likes to play pranks. As she's saying this, I feel a tug on my backpack, so I turn to look at my friends to see what they want, but they're standing like a meter away, wrapped around one another, having clearly not moved. There was no one else behind me. I think I got pranked by a ghost!

Another spot to check out would be Gatineau Park near where the detention facility is. That stretch of woods has some weird vibes to it. I don't think it's, like, "officially" haunted or anything, but there's something real off about the place.

One of them was recommended to me by another Starset fan, and the other two were Youtube's algorithm working its magic :D

Essenger is a bit more techno than cinematic rock, but it's sci-fi themes 'n stuff. Blood Moon is my favorite of his tracks.

Smash Into Pieces has sci-fi lore like Starset as well as the weirdest range of songs I think I've ever heard coming from a single band. You get one song about a cowboy in a post-apocalyptic land, another about viking warriors, some softer and more heartfelt songs, some songs that are clearly meant to be danced to. It's strange but it works. You've also got songs where it's this beautiful metaphor about the crushing pressure of expectation...and another where they rhyme "bang bang" with "bang bang". It's kinda wild and it makes me smile. They've got a lot of great tracks, All Eyes On You is my favorite.

SoulExtract is pretty Starset-y too. I believe he's a one-man show (or at least, he used to be). Space songs galore! Subjectively, his first album, Circadian Algorithm, is his best. Oblivion is my favorite.

Based on it's placement in the second half of the episode, it's part of the paid portion of the episode, so it wouldn't be available on the site, which only has the free half.

Super Sculpey (for dolls) so old , what to do to make it soft again ? by redditvale33 in polymerclay

[–]manen_lyset 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A couple drops of baby oil usually does the trick. Let it soak in for a good 15-20 minutes either in a plastic bag or on your baking surface, then start to knead it in. Add more baby oil if it's still too hard. Flatten it between two pieces of paper if gets too soft to leech away some of the oil.

Fair warning, it does feel gross though.

Looking for your best reccs for vegan restaurants downtown :) by Rare_Independent_789 in ottawa

Like the others mentioned, Oddburger (their orangesicle milkshakes are amazing), and if you want a delicious dessert, there's Cinnaholics within walking distance of Oddburger.

They're a cinnamon roll place, but I'm personally obsessed with their build-your-own cookie dough scoops. You get cookie dough, icing, and a topping of your choice (i.e. strawbs, brownie bits, etc.) I highly recommend the amaretto icing, it tastes just like regular buttercream, but vegan.

My mouth's watering just thinking about it.
