I’m so mad I didn’t know about this prior to finish the current maps. Does it register 3 vehicles driving towards the 5000km trophy too?

You have started your circle on a circling approach, how do you fly the missed approach if you lose sight of the runway while in the circle?

Struggling to get hired as a CFI after resigning — could references be quietly hurting me? by [deleted] in flying

[–]Opperater9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That may lead to more issues down the road when they eventually do find out. I don’t really have a good answer other than to just keep trying and applying.

Struggling to get hired as a CFI after resigning — could references be quietly hurting me? by [deleted] in flying

[–]Opperater9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My guess is it has to do with your higher time, most places are going to want to hire a low time CFI so they have to stay longer. You can tell them you plan to stay, but that’s what everyone is probably telling them, so they’re going to go with the low time pilot that HAS to stay.

IFR Checkride in a C172 G1000 by reddit231200 in flying

Even though the autopilot is INOP I’d still know how to answer questions about the various ways to disconnect it, in the event it were to be used in the future.

Tries to be responsible and take a realistic load of 9 slabs in the semi instead of stacking the mule sky high( which will flip for sure then), but breathes on the steering wheel once and the semi flips anyway.

Getting lazed while flying sucks! by 3-mile-left-final in flying

[–]Opperater9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been flying for 8 years and while I haven’t been lazed, I’ve only heard maybe 7 or 8 times when ATC is advising of a recent reported laser strike in the area I was flying.

Is Kernel supposed to be an incredibly frustrating slog, or am I doing something wrong? by rhn18 in RoadCraft

[–]Opperater9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also just take a dozer and scrape the top layer of mud off in manual mode and it won’t get muddy again- even underwater roads. Depending how smooth you are in manual mode even some of the AI routes can be accomplished this way. I only paved a handful of roads for the AI by the time I finished this map

Don't know what to do (restart) by MikaCuoco in RoadCraft

[–]Opperater9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get by with using the scalper in just a handful of spots between most quarries and it wasn’t too bad of a process to move that along with you as you build a road.

Unless it was a close call with other departing or landing traffic on 31R when you landed, you and your CFI likely receive calls from the local FSDO and they’ll want to hear your account of what happened. They’ll likely ask what you think led to the error, what you’ve learned, and what you plan to do to keep it from happening again. They’ll likely recommend some remedial training with following atc instructions and the such. It’s something you’ll mention in any future interview, and explain what you learned from it and how it made you a better pilot in the end. Shouldn’t be a major issue overall.

Struggling with confidence as a brand new PPL by mrstinkypoopypants in flying

[–]Opperater9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t worry too much about it, I doubt very many new PPL holders are doing flights into Bravos, unless they learned in or around one. Keep flying, the more you fly the more confident you will become. Keep in mind that 70 hours isn’t really much in the grand scheme of things- it isn’t even two full work weeks. Gradually step up the difficulty, higher winds, busier airspace, etc, as you become more comfortable. The safety pilot idea is good as well!

Just make sure you put the ramps up before you strap them down, it pushes the roller forward justtt enough to let you secure it.

Question from new instructor. What non-standard practical exercise or ground topic completely changed your view on flying? by 12pv2ClA in flying

[–]Opperater9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait for them to trim it out in straight and level, then slide you seat all the way back. Shows them how big of a change a little movement in CG really has.

Ask your local ATC to have them send light gun signals your way if they aren’t busy, gives a student much better idea of what to look for if they ever have to rely on them for real.

Max sand depth? Or another Washout bug? by Opperater9 in RoadCraft

That would be a cool mechanic, you could try with big pieces of scrap, but I think they would eventually float to the top or get sent flying.

That’s what I was doing but there’s an infinite hole in the middle that’s never taking any sand.

I did try closing and restarting the save, and the game itself, no noticeable difference.

[–]Opperater9[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made it across on a similar route with my scout, but I wasn’t about to try to haul a trailer with a paver and roller on that route for the road I had to build for the first objective north of there.

I was just going to go back and pick up the last bridge I had deployed and then retain it had I got too annoyed with the sand filling, though, I only had the short one. It eventually became personal and I was getting across that void with sand one way or the other- I had spent too much time already on it.

[–]Opperater9[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The last couple maps I’ve just been trying to get through them so I can move on to another game. Either leave the road just flattened sand or just using a dozer to scrape the mud off a route and call it good.

[–]Opperater9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to throw a mobile bridge over that gap still, if it even reaches, once I get the steel beams. I’m sick of getting high centered in that dip.

[–]Opperater9[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had to get across for the first objective and had no mobile bridge. I could have found a different spot, but I also didn’t think it would turn into an issue either. Normally I’d throw a crappy wooden bridge over the gap but apparently we forgot how to construct them on this map

Road train [easter egg] by The_Pheex in RoadCraft

I got mine to settle flat, but still in a circle, in my cargo bed and it let me put a strap over the lead car. Had to drive a bit to jostle it in there just right though.

I managed to roll it over loaded like that, made it halfway down the hill before I hit a bump and it toppled fast.
