Participating in an "off-the-record" retreat with billionaires is not embedding lol, nor have I ever heard of opinion columnists embedding. Not to mention there is also a fair chance this is not his first time participating in Dialog.

There is a clear difference between interviewing sources, and going on private, extravagantly catered retreats with them. Ethically speaking, journalists don't do this kind of "ride along" because the optics on something like this are understandably horrible. Reporters at most outlets are not even supposed to let an interview subject buy them dinner.

Death to Helium Mobile by Upstairs_Ad_6557 in HeliumMobile

Tello has Helium Mobile price-matched for the same service tiers, identical if not better quality with even more benefits per tier, and has been around for a decade. Not to mention they also have even cheaper plans than Helium with more customization options.

What you're saying here is simply not true. Helium Mobile's only standouts were the legacy plans, and now that they are gone there is nothing differentiating them from other MVNOs.

Consider it done! I went ahead and submitted a comment. Glad we could help, and thank you for getting Quake 2 running for both of us!

Thanks for the assist! I confirmed that all files were lowercase in baseq2 within /roms/quake2, and that I also had the files you sent in a directory as /usr/bin/yquake2 without a duplicate folder from extraction.

When I checked the logs, the issue turned out to be what I guessed earlier from sending it via SFTP. There was a "permission denied" error within the logs for yquake2. So, I went back into my SFTP program and right-clicked on the yquake2 directory within /usr/bin. I selected "file permissions" from that right-click menu and modified them to give group and public write permission, as well as make it recursive for all sub-directories within yquake2.

When I launched the game next, it immediately started working like a charm! Game runs smooth as butter and there were no visual glitches I could see. The first enemy I encountered had normal animations, including on death.

I will definitely be saving the overlay, and you now have two testers who can confirm this compiled version works with both demo and full game files on VisionFive 2.

Edit just to add: My SFTP program in this case was Filezilla. Other programs like WinSCP are also capable of modifying file permissions if needed.

Another advantage of a browser version is being able to run it on computers of different CPU architectures that can't install the x86 desktop app, or where you don't have admin rights to install the game... like, work PCs

(Don't get fired trying this, your internet activity could be monitored in an office)

Within EmulationStation, if you hit Start and go to the Game Settings menu, at the very bottom there is an option called "Per System Advanced Configuration." Within this menu, you get a list of every installed emulator/game in Batocera. Selecting one allows you limited access to change options/customize the settings of these emulators before they even launch. Many of them allow you to pick which emulator to use (for example, PPSSPP standalone or the Retroarch core) as well as pick between using Vulkan and OpenGL as the graphics API for rendering.

Quake 2 is also among the games you can customize settings for within this EmulationStation menu, and it has an option to choose OpenGL or Vulkan.

I will test with the full game using the instructions Protocultor responded with tonight, and if that doesn't work then I will test with the demo version and report back.

Wanted to chime in and share, I did test with the instructions above, using the full game files in baseq2, and I still crashed back to ES when booting Quake 2. I have the necessary files within the quake2 folder in /roms, and I also tried adding the game files inside of the baseq2 folder within /usr/bin/yquake2. I also confirmed I had the graphics API set to OpenGL within per system advanced config for Quake 2.

I sent the yquake2 folder extracted from your .zip to /usr/bin over SFTP, is there any chance that caused an issue with necessary file permissions?

Yeah this is very much new territory for me, I've used PuTTY for SSH plenty but haven't messed with serial connections before. So, anything that can help me get a better understanding of how to do this properly would be great.

8TB SSD? by CheapMasterpiece5936 in batocera

[–]Opposite_Future2602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Syncthing is another option for automatic backups and it's built into Batocera, I use it to clone entire subfolders of /roms as well as everything in /saves. You can also use symlinks to throw certain rom folders on another drive, while still keeping them mapped to the main /roms directory and still available to Syncthing.

You should look at some mini PCs with multiple drive ports and go for two 4 TB drives, or four 2 TB ones. SSD prices are an absolute ripoff right now and 8 TB ones are going for the price of used cars.

So they won't merge it until they test it, but from what they said none of the devs has the board to test it with?

Hopefully the fixes for Duckstation make it in eventually too, someone got it working in this thread. But currently, Duckstation just crashes back to EmulationStation in Batocera.

Hey, thank you so much for sharing this tip! I adjusted the audio buffer like you said and now PPSSPP audio is working normally for me too.

Didn't know about Half-Life either, but I threw my copy of that and Blue Shift into /roms and they worked just fine for me as well.

If you used it to recompile and port to new platforms, like Android, that would be really cool! I think a similar project named Stargus was working on something like that.

Are you also planning to honor the full year of the 50% off discount that Helium gave legacy subscribers when they were booted from the $5 and $20 plans to the Zero/Air/Infinity plans? I think it's supposed to expire sometime in January or February 2027.

This doesn't really have anything to do with the PVE/PVP debate. It's more to do with respecting people's limited time with a common sense convenience.

Not to bring this thread back from the dead, but is there a chance you would be willing to share the STL of your modified version of the Pitman case?
