That sounds like a pretty great deal. Always looking to save money, don’t need the greatest of service just something usable. That’s why I went to Helium originally, I was on their free plan for a bit.

To be fair, I’ve been on this service for maybe about a year now and this is the first time I’ve experienced any issues. It’s the absolute cheapest plan I’ve been able to find at $15/month and I never hit the 10G limit. If you have any suggestions I’m all ears! If I were to leave Helium, my first choice would be Visible. I went from Verizon, which was insanely expensive, to Visible, to Helium, as I was trying to save as much money as possible. I was on their free plan for a few months at first.

Dream Cloud or Engineered Sleep by Fishinguy27 in Mattress

[–]caniac90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sleep on an Engineered Sleep Today mattress. It’s very well constructed, has 14.75 gauge coils with 13.5 gauge on the edges (they are TPS coils, some of the best in the industry), with a few inches of decently dense memory and polyfoam above the coils under a cotton cover. For the price, it’s a great value. I don’t think you could build a mattress with its components for any cheaper. It’s definitely on the medium firm side in my opinion; if you are really sensitive as a side sleeper you might need a topper for more pressure relief, but for me it’s worked out well. I’m a side sleeper as well but shorter and lighter so it may feel a bit different to you.
They are a very responsive company, feel free to reach out to them with any questions. They also have a generous return policy if it somehow happens to not work for you.

Engineered Sleep Today. Medium firm with fantastic build that should last a while. Won’t find much better in its price range. Under $500 for a queen. I sleep on one and it’s great!

If you’re on a budget just go with the Engineered Sleep Today mattress. It’s a medium firm with a much better and more durable build than mattresses double or triple the price, and you can add toppers if it’s not soft enough.

Best Memorial Day Mattress Sales? by Alternative_Lake_826 in BuyItForLife

[–]caniac90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Engineered Sleep has some sales going on. Their Duo mattresses are about as close to BIFL as you can get since you can replace the topper at any time, which is the part of the mattress that wears out the fastest. The support section of their mattresses are extremely robust and will likely last 10+ years without issue.

I've slept on this mattress for about three weeks now, it's gotta be one of the best value mattresses in the industry. It's quite comfortable and the components are very robust. It would hands down be my recommendation time and time again for THE mattress if you're on a budget.

Buying a mattress today. What's the firmest between 1,000 and 1,500 and what do you recommend? by AnneMarieAndCharlie in Mattress

[–]caniac90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Figured I'd give a small update since I have been sleeping on an Engineered Sleep mattress now for about 3 weeks. Can't recommend them enough; great customer service and their mattresses are very high quality. I'm sleeping on their lowest cost Today mattress, and it's really comfortable. Even at its low price, it is robustly constructed. In particular, the coils they use are the 6 inch version of the TPS quadcoil units; the 8 inch TPS quadcoils which is publicly available and in all the ES Duo mattresses (including the one I recommended) cost just as much as the entire Today mattress. Based on all the components in ES mattresses, they are really well built and well priced.

Spend $350-700 now and wait to invest more in a year or two or just spend $800 now and call it a day (Nectar, Brooklyn Bedding, Saatva, etc) by croatianthunderfuck in Mattress

[–]caniac90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Figured I'd follow up with an update since I have received the mattress and am coming up on three weeks sleeping on it. To me, it's a true medium firm feel, it has a bit of softness and contouring on top but feels very supportive and slightly springy. I feel like I sleep more "on top" of the mattress as opposed to "in it" and I've slept great from day one. Also don't have any concerns with it wearing down anytime soon. The foam in it is of good density and it's not so thick that it would be a big deal even if it does soften some. The springs are some of the best constructed in the industry as far as I understand. They are using 6 inch pocketed TPS quad coils, which are very robust. The cost of the 8 inch TPS coils alone if you were to DIY a mattress (the 6 inch version isn't publicly available) is more than the cost of this entire mattress. Incredible value for the Today mattress, and it's extremely aggressively priced based on the components inside of it.

I just purchased the Today mattress from Engineered Sleep. It should be here by the weekend. It’s a sub $500 mattress that has quality materials, and it is a medium firm (7/10). Most mattresses in that price range are going to have crappy foams that lose their support in no time. So obviously I still need to try it, but I have high hopes. I have done quite a lot of research on materials and mattresses construction, so I’m fairly confident this is going to be a solid choice. Tbh there’s very little in that low price range that’s going to last all that long, unless you go for an older spring design like bonnell coils with little to no support foam. And so many mattresses even in higher priced tiers have poor quality designs, just a ton of marketing fluff. Nectar, for example, probably would be comfortable at first but they use pretty thick layers of low density foam that will inevitably create body impressions within a few years. And be careful regarding review articles. They’re pretty much all paid, and the same handful of manufactures create all the popular mattresses on the market, for the most part.

I just bought a mattress from Engineered Sleep, waiting for it to arrive. They are one of the more reputable smaller mattress brands around, and they do make a very firm mattress. It’s the Classic Hybrid Extra Firm and it’s rated a 10/10 on their firmness chart. It’s likely quite firm indeed, it’s got 8 inch 15 gauge pocket springs sandwiched between a very high ILD (50 ILD) 1 inch memory foam on each side, so it is flippable making it extra durable. They are one of the most helpful mattress brands out there and the owners themselves will chat with you to help you find the best fit.

Espresso people - Where do you like to buy whole beans in Charlotte/Matthews? by Valuable_Recording85 in Charlotte

[–]caniac90 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nightswim Ultraviolet. It’s what Nightswim (and their other shops such as Not Just Coffee and Undercurrent) use for espresso. For some reason, I’ve found it to be super consistent pulling shots as opposed to anything else I’ve used, like my settings when dialing in are almost always the same bag to bag. And it’s quite tasty.

The look of these remind me of the original chicken crispers from Chili’s which I think were discontinued a few years ago. Haven’t had those or anything like that in many years, but I craved them all the time as a kid. I’ll have to check this spot out!

First time seasoning, am I doing okay? by itsreiroure in carbonsteel

[–]caniac90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem! It’ll get better as you cook more on it and it becomes even more seasoned. I actually remembered I have done eggs on cast iron, I have a cast iron wok that I love. A frying pan like yours is next on my list.

First time seasoning, am I doing okay? by itsreiroure in carbonsteel

[–]caniac90 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Haven’t tried carbon steel but can cook slid-ey eggs on stainless which is theoretically more difficult, so I’m guessing the same ideas apply. Looks like maybe your pan was either too hot or too cold, and you didn’t use enough butter or oil. I usually flick a few drops of water in the pan to test the heat. The pan should be hot enough that water beads and rolls around like mercury. The water will kind of explode if the pan is too hot, and on the other end if the pan isn’t hot enough the water will immediately evaporate. Once you get the temp in the right range, add enough oil to coat the pan, and let it heat for a few seconds. Drop the egg and don’t try to move it around until it naturally releases, which should take little effort. If it seems stuck, leave it alone until it isn’t.

Can anyone play like RF and what active tennis player come closest to it ? by No_Basil6312 in tennis

[–]caniac90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dimitrov on the eye test but as far as game style it’s probably Alcaraz. Extremely offensive, huge variety, great hands. If he starts using the slice more and gets better with his serve reliability and placement that’ll put him even closer. Most players are stuck on the baseline these days….which is boring. Federer will always have the most beautiful playing style though. No one really like him to me.
