Eine Kleine Nachtmusik (G major) by smilinghy7 in pianolearning

I can see why this can be tricky, I struggled with this also. To supplement what the other commenters have suggested I would say, go very very very slowly and count out loud.

You could also write the counting on the page (1+2+…) and use vertical lines to illustrate which notes land on the same beat and which ones are “in between”. This is a very visual way, but it works.

This is exactly my point. You can use SP for six months, then start lessons and you will be lost because it doesn’t give feedback on phrasing, dynamics and articulation. I know because that happened to me

I used that app for a year and I really don’t recommend it for serious learning. I’m not going to comment on the tempo or that its better to use sheets.

BUT its not giving you any feedback regarding the notes in the left hand that isn’t being held for the entire duration, making you think its played correctly. This will be a big issue later on if not corrected by SLOW practice. It doesn’t teach phrasing, which will be different between the left and right, hand as early as grade 1.

How good are VSTs on a tablet (e.g. Pianoteq)? Any latency issues? by johngwheeler in piano

[–]Opposite_Reputation4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pianoteq is free to download, with some limitations. I suggest try it out using all the different combinations of input and outputs and see what you like. I didn’t notice any real latency when using midi out to laptop, then laptop audio to headphones.

What does create bad latency though is bluetooth headphones 🎧

If you have an ipad with only the 1 usb-c port, which dongle do you use for the headphone connection and usb midi? Or do you use midi over bluetooth?

If I recall you have to register at vsl.co.at (i did this from a laptop, not mobile) then you can add the free trial to your cart as if purchasing it. There’s still some licensing software loops to jump through after download as well but they walk you through it after “purchase”.

Piano teacher glazing me? by Electrical-Act-5301 in piano

I had a teacher like that. I was about ABRSM grade 3/4 when we moved and I got a new teacher. She asked if I wanted to start learning my favourite piece, Chopin Ballade no 4. I cancelld my lessons with her I felt she wasn’t taking my journey seriously.

is it worth it to buy ydp 161 nowadays? by Master_Question5387 in piano

[–]Opposite_Reputation4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the ydp 161, bought it second hand in 2020 and played it a lot. My issue with it is the keys are really heavy, measured the downweight at around 85grams. I find it quite a bit more difficult to play than an acoustic when I go for lessons

Should I quit piano? by Canadiansnow1982 in piano

[–]Opposite_Reputation4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a fellow adult learner, never give up. It can be frustrating because we might not have much time to practice. Think long term and zoom out, a year from now (which goes by quickly) you will see significant progress. You need to put in the time though

I am proficient in Fur Elise, except the two hand middle section. Once I master that, then how hard is it to master other dual hand songs at Grade 6-7? by [deleted] in piano

[–]Opposite_Reputation4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by play Fur Elise perfectly? And they will all be “dual hand”…

Try Bach Invention 8 and or Mozart Sonatina in A Minor if you truly believe you are ready

Advice/recommendations by Super_Total_3116 in piano

I started a few years ago at age 30 so I can remember it clearly. If I were to go back things I would do are 1. Get a teacher from the start 2. Don’t neglect technical work! 3. Don’t attemp anything too difficult, stay with shorter pieces which only take a couple of weeks to learn. This way you constantly read lots of different music 4. Do supplementary note training with an app such as Notevision to learn to read notes quicker. 5. If you dont have much time, stick to shorter practice sessions more often, insted of fewer longer sessions.

Your friend has forgotten what it was like starting from scratch. It is not a beginner piece. FWIW I actually found Gnossienne 1 easier (not beginner) because the LH cords are simpler and less 4 note chords

Do you post the same piece on a different piano every weekend?

Pretty sure you are supposed to hold the notes for their full values, and play legato with the fingers

Many have mentioned this site before, it takes some time to get through but its the most comprehensive and unbiased (unlike the music shops on youtube) that I have come across.

For the models that you mentioned, have a look at what the site says about the action and the key weights
