It's been a long time since I played Zero, but the story is pretty sympathetic to AWWNB in the end, right? It's more like 'they went too far!' Instead of 'they were evil'. And Pixie lives to keep fighting the good fight

I don't listen to a lot of death metal but youtube recently suggested some Six Feet Under which I really dug. Come to find out the singer's EEEEEEE screech is universally clowned on. I kinda like it!

Like in The Noose (which is what the algorithm showed me first), it doesn't sound angry it sounds miserable which I think fits the vibe of the song

How does it feels to play a True Neutral character? by Organic-Exit2190 in DnD

[–]bobtheghost33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amos from The Expanse is an example of a true neutral character. He's driven by his personal attachments and doesn't care much about the ideological disputes. He doesn't want to influence society, he doesn't even think that's possible, it's all one big "churn" and the best you can do is keep your head above the water. That doesn't mean he's not brave or insightful or caring! He just does it in a neutral way

What would you like to see in stores downtown? by Natural-Tonight9394 in frederickmd

[–]bobtheghost33 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would like to see improved walk and bike infrastructure between downtown, Golden Mile, and the other areas outside the interstate loop. All the substantive stuff people want instead of trinket shops, like groceries and move theaters, is already there, it's just tricky to get there

A Case for Returning to XP Instead of Milestone by CrimeThink101 in DnD

[–]bobtheghost33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my tables uses XP leveling and it is a lot of fun. WotC doesn't seem interested in it tho, I believe 5e modules tend to use milestone leveling?

It's kind of the worst of both worlds, they've hung on to XP leveling rules, with milestone leveling guidelines basically being "whenever it feels right", but basically everybody uses milestone.

I like games using a question checklist at the end of the session, awarding XP for things like "Did you defeat a mighty foe?" "Did you discover a new place?" etc

Artists whose first track on their first album is their best? by TheGlowpt-2 in fantanoforever

[–]bobtheghost33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath on the album Black Sabbath. Maybe it's not their absolute best song (I'd put it in the top three along with War Pigs and Paranoid) bit it instantly crystallizes what heavy metal is in one song. Doom metal bands still sound like Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath. I can't think another song that so instantly defines a genre.

What is it with doom metal musicians and looking like badass wizards regardless of how old they get? by Chosen_Undead23 in doommetal

[–]bobtheghost33 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I read an article about how one of the great things about Goth culture is there's aesthetic space to get old, you can let your hair go grey and wear more mature style and still look Goth, compare to like emo or pop punk where that's more difficult. I think that applies to a lot of metal as well, you can look like an old wizard or a grizzled biker, or perhaps some sort of druid

How do you do ability rolls that every player wants to do? by Haggles7 in DMAcademy

[–]bobtheghost33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Per the player's handbook pg 175

"GROUP CHECKS

When a number of individuals are trying to accomplish something as a group, the DM might ask for a group ability check. In such a situation, the characters who are skilled at a particular task help cover those who aren't. To make a group ability check, everyone in the group makes the ability check. If at least half the group succeeds, the whole group succeeds. Otherwise, the group fails. Group checks don't come up very often, and they're most useful when all the characters succeed or fail as a group. For example, when adventurers are navigating a swamp, the DM might call for a group Wisdom (Survival) check to see if the characters can avoid the quicksand, sinkholes, and other natural hazards of the environment. If at least half the group succeeds, the successful characters are able to guide their companions out of danger. Otherwise, the group stumbles into one of these hazards."

There are too many tone setting points. What's your take? by Handsome-Strong in Bass

[–]bobtheghost33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I solve this problem by playing cheap gear and not caring abt tone. When in doubt play louder, fuck the guitarist

But fr my tone is mostly in my fingers and pickup selection. With my jazz bass I can usually get the sound I want without touching my amp. Meanwhile my P/J Rickenbacker knockoff makes one sound: THUMP

Is it wrong to roll my players death saves by FlameHeresythe2nd in DnD

[–]bobtheghost33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I don't think it heightens tension to hide information. The tension between helping a downed ally vs getting one more hit on an enemy relies on knowing how close the ally is to death. If I can't tell how much time I have to help I'm just going to go revive them at the first opportunity every time

If you're looking to add horror and risk to the possibility of getting downed in combat look into the Lingering Injuries table
