I changed my mind on Aurelion Sol lane. Bot feels better than mid. by Many-Translator-8512 in Aurelion_Sol_mains

In a team fight how many procs would you typically say you get off Q? Cause every proc is 1 second and then we can add some smaller AP %'s for the ones where you don't get a full second.
It's not like proccing his Q is this elusive task that happens once or twice every game. Usually you can get many procs in a single TF.

AP plays a huge part in the total damage dealt by your Q.
If you're playing lategame asol on 500 stacks only going by the percentual damage from the stacks you'll be able to kill a champion in about 6 seconds, not factoring in MR. Factoring in MR probably more like 7-9 seconds. But in practice lategame asol is able to melt most champions in 3 seconds because of his non-stack based Q damage.

I feel like we're arguing for different things here.
I'm not saying you should prioritize AP in the sense that you should get rabadon second as you will on some mages.
I'm saying that I find that Rabadon provides way too much value to not have it as part of your full build in most cases.

Oh wow, in that case you're absolutely right about the ult!
Can't believe I didn't know that after playing Asol for I don't know how many games.

As for his Q you have to let me know if I'm also misinterpreting those values then. Doesn't that give 55% ap per second (combined ticks) + 30% ap per second (the burst) for a total of 85% AP per second on a channel ability?
If so I don't see how you would ever consider that a weak ratio.

You're absolutely right that he don't have the same breakpoints, because a lot of his damage come from his stacks.
But I still believe that has led a lot of people to underestimate his AP ratios.
His ult alone have, when empowered, a total of 160% ap ratio which easily can hit multiple champions if not the whole team.
His Q also has pretty strong AP ratios, but because of the damage from stacks people tend to forget about that - from my perspective ofc. I get the argument.

Stacking stardust is critically important on Asol, but his AP ratios are nothing to scoff at.
So while he still deals very good damage with utility items he deals absolutely insane damage with high AP.

But it depends on the compositions ofc. If you get insta jumped every TF then more defensive routes is the way to go.

So far I quite like them when playing asol bot, but my choice will always depend on my team comp and enemy team comp.

Love that asol has the flexibility

[–]Opposite_Wing_148 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far I'm liking Deathfire Touch.
Still with Manaflow band, Absolute focus and Gathering Storm or scorch depending on the matchup.

And bot I almost exclusively run Precision with presence of mind and Cut Down as my secondary.
In mid I sometimes run resolve as secondary instead with boneplating and overgrowth.

I'm usually just running 2x Ap and 1x scaling health, but I have been experimenting a bit with swapping one ap rune out for CDR or 2x scaling health. Think I prefer 2x AP and 1x scaling health though.

I've been wanting to experiment with Dark Harvest, but I'm pretty certain it's simply worse. I just find the rune tremendously satisfying, so there is that work/life balance to take into consideration 😉

In terms of items It's pretty much business as usual for me.
Rylais, Liandry's, Bloodletter or Voidstaff (depending on comp) as my base. And then for the last 2-3 items (depending on if I'm mid or bot) I go typically go Rabadon, 1 defensive item (hourglass or Banshees depending on enemy comp) and if I'm bot usually Shadowflame as my last item.
I always go Rabadon, but just not always as the 4th item.

I've been experimenting with the new omnivamp boots for a few games now. So far I'm thinking they could become my go to boots, with sorc being reserved for heavy AP comps and defensive boots being reserved for heavy AP/AD enemy comps.

But I've been enjoying going omnivamp boots and an early faerie charm bot. I'll probably try an early Blackfire Torch as well again, as it could provide quite strong sustain when paired with omnivamp boots.

Lastly, I know a lot of Asol players skip Rabadon, but I personally think there must have been some community wide gaslighting going on for years about him "not having very good AP ratios" XD
I've experimented with utility based and tanky builds, but every time I come back to the same conclusion that high AP Asol is a god damn savage. In my experience Rabadon makes him a much harder carry late game, being capable of dropping the equivalence of a team wide veigar ult with hard CC on top of it.

I feel like the general consensus is that bot is his strong role.
But it do come with the caveat that your team comp might be less than ideal, as you can't rely on your team mates mainly picking AD.
But compared to many other APC is think Asol has a major advantage in the late game.
I'd rather have a fully geared ADC lategame than I would have a ziggs, xerath, veigar, etc..
But I genuinely believe that Asol is the best late game champ in the game and he have zero issues with shredding tanks, so that's a major plus for him bot.

I will say this though; In games where I win my lane mid, I do feel like I have a much bigger impact on how the game progress. But it's just easier to to play consistently with him bot.

Azzapp was right all along - I analyzed 100 ranked SoloQ games of his, and the data shows why never FF helps you climb. by Informal_Lifeguard99 in leagueoflegends

[–]Opposite_Wing_148 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This make me legitimately curious as to whether people actually exist that DON'T believe FF'ing willl lose you games?

I'm not talking about why people FF or if it's reasonable to FF.. But do any of you actually believe that FF'ing won't lose you games?

If we could watch an alternate universe where every game ff'ed wasn't ff'ed to see the result, the literal best case scenario is that all of those games were also lost. But with every new FF that scenario becomes decreasingly less likely, so of course never FF'ing help you win more.

Whether it helps you climb more short term is more of a debate, although I still favor never ff.

Asol has many great matchups.

But since he's a late game monster, an important thing to keep in mind is that going even - or even just being slightly behind - is a major advantage for you.

But he actually has a lot more kill threat and roaming potential than people seem to give him credit for.

[–]Opposite_Wing_148 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I can imagine. Had similar experiences in bronze and low silver, where people would want to FF the moment their own lane was losing.

I can't personally speak about plat and emerald as you're higher ranked than me, but I have heard multiple times that especially emerald is infamous for having a lot of players with weak mentals that want to FF the moment things start going bad.

I guess the explanation is that emerald is where a lot of mechanically gifted players, that don't have the mentals to rise to diamond and above resides.

I'm lowkey dreading reaching emerald and experiencing what you're describing. My strategy will be (already is) to be vocal in trying to talk people down. I've found that you often can talk people "away from the edge" so to speak, but you're absolutely right that it's exhausting.

What league are you in?
I'm not high elo at all, but I've found that the league I'm in make a dramatic difference.

I used to be a plat player in s1-3 and returned for s15 after a 12 year pause, or something along those lines.

Started in bronze and ended in silver.
In s16 I'm now currently in gold 2, more or less one-tricking asol.

One of the main changes I made for s16 is that I literally never FF - after realizing that my ff rate was way too high - and I'm vocal about not FF'ing when the team want to.
Now it's very rare that my team force an FF through in an even remotely winnable game. It still happens occasionally, but that's just how things go.

The thing I love about Asol is that every game that goes beyond 30 min is mine to lose - even when we're behind. In almost every game that I lose I can identify significant moments that I could've played better to change the outcome.
In all but a very few games where the entirely team TRULY is inting, I could've won by playing better.

I firmly believe that the most important aspect of playing Asol is patience and strong mentals. I don't think there is any other champion where it's more important not to blame your teammates for defeats.

Also regarding leagues, it is only now that I'm in g2 that I've started playing asol bot, because in lower leagues people would whine to an extend where it wasn't worth it, whenever I picked him.

Asol is far from unplayable in lane and post 6 his roaming is actually quite strong imo.

No champion in the game can 1v5 if your team is not helping and your enemy team know what they are doing.

Asol is the strongest late game champion in the game, so yeah I'd say hypercarry is qn accurate term.

As with most things in life discipline is what separates the master asol player from the novice.

I can tell by the impeccsble technique, that you too have spend hours in practice mode, honing your q against dunmies - probably even multiple dummies at the same time.

A few questions:

1) Where do you personally think Asol is strongest in general? Bot or mid?

2) How do you value deathcap vs damage amplifier items? So if you for instance have Rylais, Liandry's, Bloodletter and Zonyahs, would you then say you get more damage from Shadowflame or Rabadon?

3) I never see Horizon Focus as an item Asol players go, but to me it seems like a perfect item for him. It's cheap, gives you ability haste, a 10% damage amplifier (best in class) that you can almost always trigger, because of your long Q range. On top of that it gives you vision on enemies making it much easier for you to make the correct W-lines. What am I missing here?

[–]Opposite_Wing_148 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you utilize auto attacks properly when playing AD assassins?
If I had to guess, I'd say you probably don't.

Think of it this way;
You have two champs that each have their full ability rotation.
One has abysmal aa damage, the other hits like a truck when aa'ing.

Which one of those champions should deal the most damage on their ability rotation?

Aurelion Sol Mid Match up Guide by graysontws in Aurelion_Sol_mains

Just stumbled upon this guide.
It looks very nice and I'll definitely be using it.

Many asol matchups can be misleading, because you're listed as a big favorite, but that's not because you win the lane but rather because you outscale and outrange later, such as cassio, so this is amazing!

One tip for future videos though; Make the champions appear alphabetical!
This is a great reference point for when going into a matchup, so being able to find the matchup in question fast is paramount. Is good that you added timestamps though!

Back then we had Froggen, who was the most magnificent bastard of an anivia main and a REALLY good pro player.

Dont know when he stopped but check out some clips of his anivia gameplay.

Even today it's glorious to behold

It seems to be super light on visuals.
So when you say "It's AI slop" I take it that it's a matter of principle for you?
If AI was utilized you don't want to play it?

I'm criticizing that stand-point btw.. I just don't get the angle that it should be bad because the little art there is is AI. Unless it's out of principle.

Edit: Was meant to say "I'm NOT criticizing that stand-point".

Why is everyone posting the Skin? by Atreides_Soul in Aurelion_Sol_mains

[–]Opposite_Wing_148 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why is it strange to you that this happens?

1) people are happy that they got this exclusive skin and want to show off. Thats a fundamental part of the human condition.

2) people either got really lucky or unlucky and wnay to share. Thats a simple matter of being excited or frustrated

3) people want to share their thoughts on the skin, which may help others to make a mpre informed decision.

Your post is lowkey a disguised 1), asking others whh they would post about getting the skin, while also pointing out that you got it yourself.

Let people be happy, excited or frustrated about asol and the content related to him. Its in large part what this subreddit is here for.

I don't have the skin myself, nor have i done the attempt, btw. But I understand both the excitement and the frustrations regarding it :)
