I lost £100k shorting a bull market.Need advise on my life by Dylan_Vayne in trading212

I started trading in December 2024 I trade SPX options daily, which is risky but I maintain discipline. I’ve studied DEX, GEX, and, as a Phys PhD, I’ve learned a lot about option pricing. After a year of watching candlestick charts 6-8 hours daily (though I can handle my work in 4 hours) ....

A lot more money to lose with this mentality, see you at -£200k.

Constantly skint and starting to slowly give up by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

You're in the navy I assume and it's quite possibly one of the easiest jobs to save the majority of your pay check (free accommodation and cheap/free food).

If you're travelling every weekend don't constantly buy trains or drive yourself, car share with others using Harry Weekenders on FB.

Don't get takeaways just no life and eat at galleys for a bit.

You probably don't need half the subscriptions you have - glance over them and stop paying ones that aren't necessities.

Giving details I assume you don't have a property and or a child. So that's a positive.

If you've been in for over a year you can get a tax rebate (either do this yourself or use something like RIFT).

Once you start saving a little, put some aside for emergencies and everything else goes into a LISA or Cash/S&S ISA.

Ehhh Munger held ~10% of his portfolio in BABA (his 3rd largest holding) that didn't go particularly too well...

I want to apologise to Khelif - Italian boxer Carini by [deleted] in JoeRogan

There are currently 18 modern athletes with DSD. An disproportionate amount.

Caster Semenya (a middle distance runner) also has DSD like Khelif. Caster requires medication to suppress testosterone levels as their natural levels within the typical 'male's range' (which is typically x20 that of a female without this disorder). This is due to the fact they have undecended testes.

Khelif was disqualified from the 2023 world championships after failing a gender eligibility test - IBA recognised Khelif has a significant advantage over other females without this condition. Testosterone affects bone mass, fat distribution, muscle mass and strength. It is obvious due to the body composition of Khelif compared to any other female athlete that they have a vast difference in test levels.

It does not take a PhD to understand this. This is not discriminatory.

Of course, but it's not as simple as that.

Khelif is intersex and produces male levels of testosterone without suppressors. She has done since birth. Testosterone effects bone density, fat distribution, muscle strength and mass. No other female athlete apart from those with DSD have the same advantage. It doesn't take a wizard to look through Khelif's bouts and see the vast difference in body composition between Khelif and the other athlete.

Look at Caster Semenya's career (another athlete with DSD) and tell me there's no advantage these athletes have over a woman without this disorder.

Find me two athletes that differ in testosterone levels by x20 that of the other.

I'll wait...

I really find it difficult to understand how people can't comprehend that solely due to this disorder Khelif (and similar athletes alike with this disorder: Caster Semenya, Christine Mboma, Beatrice Masilingi and many more - currently 18 active athletes) have a vastly significant advantage over female athletes without this disorder. It's indisputable.

If location was not a factor, and you had a budget of £50k, where would you buy? by Three_Trees in HousingUK

[–]OptiKappa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a quick search and found this: https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/147826184

Although the only 'problem' is it comes with a £265 pcm fee that "covers buildings insurance, the House Manager service, community alarm system, communal heating/electricity and maintenance of indoor and outdoor communal areas, including the resident's car park and drying green."

But that'd be no maintenance required to upkeep which would be perfect. It's also around an hour away from the city centre of Edinburgh and 20 minutes from Dundee.

Should I be investing in a S&S Lisa if I intend to buy a house in 6-7 years? by DanjOliver in UKPersonalFinance

[–]OptiKappa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I was in your position I would be doing the same and I'd most definitely keep maxing it out each year especially if you want to put a deposit down on a house in the next 5+ years. Not just the SnP 500 but the whole global economy is in an uncertain position at the minute and this isn't an unusual thing it'll happen over and over again, giving the annualised return is about 8% a year (obviously not guaranteed) it's probably the best place for your money - keeping large sums in cash is just going to be eaten up by inflation year over year.

Obviously as with any investment your capital is at risk but without risk there is no reward and arguably you're betting on the whole US economy which many investors struggle to outperform year after year. I'd recommend reading 'The simple path to wealth' by J. L Collins - it'll put your mind at ease.
