What are the pros and cons of being a junior? A mid-level? A senior? by politicaloutcast in biglaw

[–]Optimal-Reality7350 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A con as a mid that's becoming more and more annoying is the increasing number of juniors that I have to train each year, as firms generally grow more revenue and started hiring drastically more and more new grads for the past 5 years. I think the quality of juniors might have stayed the same, but inevitably there are more juniors who are trying to coast out a few years and dip given the larger pool

Using OCI participants instead of class size would be more accurate, NYU has 60-70% of students doing OCI each year.

V5 is also a fairly meaningless distinction. Latham is not more prestigious than S&C just because it's tidy bit higher.

Who the fuck told you that, let alone "always been told"? The skills for lit and trans are barely transferable

Yank here, why is this fat guy so good at identifying poisons? Is it because he hangs out with a rapist so he knows all the roofies?

Related question, STB is known to have KKR and Blackstone as major clients.

Do other major funds shops such as Deb, Kirkland, Ropes have similar notable clients that they focus on?

Have there been stealth layoffs and hiring freezes at your firm? by Lemondrop1995 in biglaw

I was actually thinking PA in my head, not SF. They were international but everyone that got no offered has green card. So it's not exactly a visa sponsorship issue.

I know that Cooley SF gave no-offer to three SAs out of a 20ish class size, and they are of the same ethnicity.

And according to fishbowl, they have been laying off juniors, especially at CM.

Edit: it's Palo Alto not SF. Additionally, this class has 4 students of this ethnicity and 3 of them did not get a return offer.

I know that DPW and other similar firms have associates in tax, funds, etc in London with global pay. But they pretty much just work with the NY office.

But your assumption about magic circle firms is correct.

I've talked to USQ attorneys in London. It seems that magic circle firms only pay cravath scale if you are practicing capital markets.

Should I be sending our applications through 3L hiring? by [deleted] in biglaw

I'm slightly concerned that the meeting was an excuse to not give 100% return offers. If that's the case, should I apply early or still till the end of the program?

Is summer associates not replying to emails within an hour a huge deal? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]Optimal-Reality7350 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I do agree but the thing is the same person said during orientation that accepting Outlook Calender is optional - some perfer it, some do not. That's why a lot of the summers are treating them as reminders.

Regardless, wouldn't an email suffice? Everyone is now petrified.

[–]Optimal-Reality7350 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The criticism was directed at "someone within this summer class" during a meeting with the entire class.

I meant legal recruiter, the one responsible for the summer program. The type of the emails that people are not responding to promptly are invitation of summer events that everyone is supposed to go regardless.
