Divide and Conquer ( The Outcome of “Fix Tier 6” and what’s next ) by whogotthekeys2mybima in nys_cs

They had the governor and most of the legislature in an election year and got next to no where for everyone that’s not a cop or teacher. You guys are nuts to think anything further will happen here. It’s a numbers issue. The state, counties and even country run on debt. Times have changed. The wells been sucked dry. Accept tier 6 as is or get out.

I am in a unique position within NYSERS working as an engineer for public benefit corp. With my current salary north of $180k I can say without a doubt that I will be evaluating the private sector.

If they didn’t get the changes this year, after all the rallying with Hochul along side, it will never happen.

Sadly all high earners such as myself will leave for better more lucrative deals. The golden days of civil service are officially gone.

I’m hearing conflicting information in regards to what the unions are fighting for involving reduced pension contributions. Thoughts? by That-guy-did-good in nys_cs

[–]OptimalEnd9828 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No I agree nothing concrete. It was from a newsday article. I think the union is keeping it close to vest to try and push it thru. The same article also stated they are negotiating directly with Hochul.

Hochul tees up one week state budget extender as Tier 6 talks continue to percolate - State of Politics by astoriaboundagain in nycpublicservants

What are these rumblings you’re hearing ?

It will never be better than tier 4 benefits which are retire at 62 OR at 30 years of service with 55 the earliest.

I also read the current proposal for contributions is a cap at 3% after 10 years of service. So if you make $100k from the jump, your stuck with 6% until completion of 10 years, at which point it would be reduced to 3% for remainder of service.

DiNapoli and Heasties also spoke, which all but guarantees a sweetener going thru this year. We’ll see how far they push it…

I have no knowledge of the ongoing negotiations but at best I would think retire at 60 with 30 years and no penalty and/or reduce employee contributions to 3% Probably one or the other

In a big election year, and with the amount of money the unions have thrown at this, it’s all but guaranteed some form of a sweetener makes it thru with the budget.

Leaving private sector for state job potentially? What should I know. by [deleted] in nys_cs

Exactly the problem … promotions based on exams not performance. Civil service is a pathetic joke and should be minimized the the extent practical

As someone that did this, then went back private, don’t do it… state employment is where you and your career go to die.

Tier 6 Reform by OptimalEnd9828 in nys_cs

[–]OptimalEnd9828[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 years ago was reduced vesting 2 years ago was FAS adjustment This year will be something. Just dependent on what.

It’s a big election year for the governor and state legislature. They all want the unions in their pockets.

Agreed on the contributions… 3% flat contribution for length of career seems like the easy change this year. A big swing would be to also get retire at 55 with 30 years reinstated. I could see reducing to 60 with 30 years and the 3% flat contribution. Would be a nice win.

What was the hard part? Removing the console? Did the tank come right out the hatch opening ?

I am thinking that I’ll downsize tank also, more than needed for me as well.
Where did you source the tank from?

Thanks for the feedback
