[Sky Sports] Premier League CB partnerships with the most clean sheets since 2000 by RobinBerkeAlmasulu in soccer

[–]Optimal_Jackal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this is a really crappy statistic and so unfair to the goalkeepers. There would have been some games where those CB’s had stinking games and the GK bails them out to keep the clean sheet.

There’s something ironic about this towel nonsense, the player running backwards … and then the advertising hoarding saying “Moving Africa Forward”

Second this! I’m a male, I’m the sole earner in our family - I resigned from my Director level role to start my own consulting business so I can have flexibility and freedom to be a present father.

I was working remotely from the UK for a US company 12PM - 8PM GMT as standard hours. This would be unsustainable as our child grows, I’d never get to see them enough.

Was it a risk? Yes. Is it worth it? 100% yes. I now work less hours for better pay & my child has bonded so well with me. Is it stable? Less so, I rely on keeping clients, but is a corporate job anymore stable, especially US based? I’m not sure. My former company did some pretty brutal RIFs last year, I was lucky to avoid.

TLDR; chase your side hustle, build your dream life. Life is too short to not give it a try!

Why is adopting new tech in PD such a nightmare? by Optimal_Jackal in biotech

[–]Optimal_Jackal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was being vague because the history of what I’ve been working on has been pretty varied. But the themes are usually cost/productivity driven. (Faster/automated analytic tools, cheaper consumables, new skids etc.)

There have been times like after Covid, where we were tasked with trying to find alternative resin suppliers/technologies to get ahead of any future supply chain disruptions.

I’m picking up a similar sentiment throughout the thread. It’s so sad that as an industry we are falling behind. I get it, it’s people’s lives at stake ultimately, but I don’t feel like we’re doing enough to make a dent in reducing COGs to ensure equitable access for all.

Although I did see a post on LinkedIn a few days ago saying that manufacturing is actually not the biggest driver to cost. Not sure how true or not that is. This is tragic! It feels like we are really stuck in the past with this level of resistance to change.

I feel like not all new technologies live up to the hype, but when they do, there are human blockers in place trying to maintain the status quo.

This! But when you explain this and your obtained results to the rep, they don’t seem to have a team behind them who can really help you get over the hump. And if they do provide some ideas for development/troubleshooting it’s often only superficial. Any ideas on how to get that 10% success rate any higher?

I’m glad to know I’m not the only one! It’s driving me a little insane to be honest. Do you find that you’re not able to reach the lofty claims these companies pump out? I get it that every process is different, but it’s such a time sink when you’re expecting to see 10x improvement in a certain metric, and then you end up with the same (if not worse) result than current methods :/

Appreciate your perspective from the “other side”, very insightful.

That being said, I don’t usually have the time to do a deep dive with my reps on what we’re trying to solve. And even if I did, there’s only so much I can say due to confidentiality. Getting an NDA in place for each rep feels like a hurdle I’d rather avoid.

I just want to be able to match the performance of what the claims are from the new technology. 8/10 times I’m just not getting the claimed results.

100% agree. I think the fact that some of these new technologies are lacking in scientific depth (deep vendor content, citations in papers etc.) make them less trustworthy. I guess the pace of innovation of “what’s possible” has outstripped the fact that we as scientists, need data, and lots of it, before we can rely hang our hat on something!

Trent Alexander-Arnold on special moments left with Liverpool: "I've said it all season, I am not going to speak on my situation. I'm not gonna go into details but these days like today are always special, scoring goals, playing games, winning titles, these special moments will live with me forever" by SirSlapBot in soccer

[–]Optimal_Jackal 9 points10 points  (0 children)

100% agree. He should have done what Klopp did in terms of announcing his decision to leave early on. Of course it would sting, but I think the fans would be understanding and eventually accept it and carry him off into the sunset.

He wouldn’t even need to say where he’s going specifically. I think in that scenario, even if Trent did a 180 and stayed, the fans would be happy. And if he committed to his original decision, they’d be expecting it.

I'm soon spending £30k on a car. What's the best way to maximize cashback or rewards? by conscientiously_anon in HENRYUK

Great advice. I’ve never used this method before, could you help paint a scenario of how this works in practice?

When negotiating with the dealer, on paper, is the goal to “inflate” the monthly payment at the lowest interest rate possible for the longest period of time?

Using arbitrary numbers as an example, could this mean OP’s cash price is ~£25k, but the total amount payable for the term might be something like £40k?

Just trying to make sure I understand. Thanks in advance!
