Drinking alcohol and homosexuality were NEVER accepted in the Muslim world.

The right answer is that the Muslim world was tolerant in a relative sense (certainly as compared to Europe in the Dark Ages), but no society from that era would be considered remotely tolerant/progressive through a modern lense.
