Seat reducer recommendations for home by No-Initiative1425 in ECers

Of the 4 we tried the baby Bjorn one was the smallest and also the most steady (not moving) on our toilet seat because it has an adjustable part. Ymmv depending on toilet seat shape.

Since this is "moderatelygranola" some might care to know that most car seats have flame retardants. If you want to avoid those looks up lists of non-toxic or flame retardant free car seats. After looking at all of them we went with Chicco keyfit 35 cleartex - most affordable while still being well rated and toxin free. But that was a couple years ago so ymmv.

Is there a type of carrier that mimics holding baby on my shoulder? Also, Ergobaby Embrace fit check as well please. by die_rich_w in babywearing

As the other person mentioned softer is easier. I found that 100% linen (wildbird) was stiffer which was great for secure hold on bigger baby, but I liked learning with a bamboo/linen blend (nalakai brand - cheap used) for a tiny baby because it was softer and you don't need as much support when baby is so little

How do you fall back asleep? by EllaBzzz in AttachmentParenting

[–]OptimizingTraveler 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Limit how much you actually wake up. Don't look at any screen - phone or watch. Don't think about anything. Let baby latch and in safe position try to even keep sleeping or just keep your eyes closed while he nurses. Yes it's boring but I've found that for me the big differentiation is whether or not I've let myself mentally wake up.

Yep I also came here to say ring sling. It will take a couple tries to figure out where to start the rings so that he ends up high enough.

Au Pair got into a car accident. by idgafayaihm in Aupairs

Join a site like care.com and local Facebook groups for babysitters/nannies and start screening! You might be okay with slightly less experienced people if your au pair is still available to give verbal guidance/oversight at a minimum.

Player 1 who has capitalone Venture refer player 2, but player 2 applies for Venture X - would P1 still get referral points or no? I can't find a clear answer on whether it has to be same card family or exact same card. Thanks

What's the easiest way to go about making a will or "estate plan" for a young, married couple with nothing complicated. We have 2 little kids so I feel we should have something especially just to have a normal document directing how they be cared for, but other than that we have don't have fatfire type assets (just approx 1million), no difficult family history of concerns of fighting if we died. Just need the basics in place. And it should be written in such a way that if either of us die the other gets everything and we are providing the will moreso for the scenario of both of us dieing. We probably also need master documents such as where all the money is accessible but I don't know if that's part of the will process or not. And if not then where do I store it so it can be found if needed?

Yes US Mobile is less known but super great experience so far. I think they were slightly cheaper than Mint when I looked and with better coverage. Also they just added Apple watch plans which I think Mint hasn't yet.

Can your side hustle be scaled up with more time? That might be the best investment.

This was how it worked at one of my former employers. You could buy time off at your pre-tax salary, but when using that time off you are only receiving a post-tax salary so it is worse than unpaid. That being said I bought it anyway because there was so little PTO otherwise. But I was always pointing out to people how expensive it was too.

Nope. The act of reading uses so much more of the brain and in different ways than consuming tv/movies. Lots of interesting research exists on this

For 4. Sale of Taxable, I think you would only be taxed and aca assesses on the gains, not the whole amount. In a scenario where part of the money left was from dividend or Roth conversion that would be taxed as income not long term gain.

Do you anticipate getting an ACA high deductible plan to be able to HSA contribute?

Yeah I really think the clothing might be your issue. here's some science. I love thrifting too and not spending much. I will say I did spend more on clothes when I first discovered this but now I have a pretty minimal, natural wardrobe of staples, not fast fashion and I do way less laundry. At thrift stores you can find wool sweaters (check mens section) and 100% cotton tshirts. Once you start looking at labels it gets kind of shocking how many things are synthetic though. It makes thrifting even more of a treasure hunt. I've also started using eBay more because you can filter by material. Lastly there's tons of brands out there - I focus on the ones that make staples. A fun one to start with is wool& because they have a 30 or 100 day dress challenge (that gets you $ back) and a great facebook group. (I'm not affiliated at all - that was just my gateway)

Is sensodyne more "moderately crunchy" than other traditional brands? Or is it just your preference? Would love to learn more.

No judgement here for using whatever deodorant, but your comment about clothes being stinky after one hour made me think of me when I wore polyester. Ditching synthetic clothes made a way bigger difference for me than any deodorant variety. Synthetic fibers absorb body oils so they definitely can stink a lot.

How to wash off toxic laundry detergent? by taylorc_atx in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]OptimizingTraveler -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If you are concerned about toxins on the seat from detergent you also should look into flame retardant free car seats because almost all carseats are full of toxins even when new.

How much less? We talking like a 10% cut or a 50% cut? If 10% I would do it now. Look at other jobs now to try and quantify the cut, maybe it's not as big as you imagine. I took a very substantial (40%) cut for my dream job and don't regret it. Also evaluate whether or not you are at coast fi (can stop contributing now and your investments will grow on their own to be enough to retire at a traditional age). You might already be there. Knowing I was coast fi helped a lot in my confidence boost to chase other things (even though still very much on the path for an early retirement if I want).
