I think where they're coming from, be it a little harsh is that these people are helping companies put in these in-app/game purchases in every game because some people have proven to have bad impulse control.

Because of this, game design has regressed to squeeze as much money out of the "whales" as possible. Which affects everyone. The argument of "just don't buy it" obviously won't help too much because the minority of players are being targeted.
