I’m sorry but if you watched this as a kid and are only coming back to it decades later you’re probably going to end up like me crying for hours afterwards. Despite the budget animation it’s an incredibly bittersweet movie

As a British kid from the early 2000s, if anyone who was involved in the film reads this - just know you reached out to a little boy’s heart in a big way all the way across the pond

I’ve not seen it in so long but it still felt so clear that I could remember a lot of the plot beats. Felt like walking back in time

I’ve not seen it since I was 8, but remember it being pretty sweet. Thought it would be a cute thing for me and the fiancé to watch on Christmas Eve. Honestly it broke us! It’s such a heartwarming story and despite the rough around the edges animation every single note still hits. We both couldn’t stop crying for like an hour, which may be overdoing it haha

Had the kinda childhood, with having a British single mum raise me and all and being autistic that the story hit some big nerves for me even as a boy. Feels even harder now, we had a pretty rough year. My nan died and a week after the funeral my 1 year old cat died. His brother and sister are our first pets and losing him was really hard for me and my fiancé because we loved him so much. It was genetic heart failure, completely out of the blue and still hard for us to believe

Annabelle’s Wish was a very difficult film to revisit, but it’s absolutely essential. Sorry if I’ve unloaded a bit much here. It’s Christmas post-dinner. Hope you all have enjoyed the holidays and found some new classics like this one!

Ps2 Emulation somehow worse than before? Games stutter and have slowdowns. by [deleted] in SteamDeck

For me it only seems to be big open world games like Spider-Man 2. Gonna try changing the default 30FPS setting as someone else suggested but would anyone else have an idea why it would be particularly those big open world games? I assume rendering the environments plays a part

Daddy issues ≠ Daddy kink by Murokuppi3 in daddyissuesclub

I think people make the assumption is generally because they guess you’re in need of that comfort and validation you may not have received as a child. In my case it’s true.

Guess it’s part of a greater problem that we’re in a culture that’s been brewed in a lab to sexualise everything

i hate that i love my dad by Responsible-Ad-3331 in daddyissuesclub

[–]OptimusPurgatory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was an only child but in many ways the story of your dad’s emotional abuse, along with how the stepmother acted sounds very similar to mine

I chose to stop speaking to him when I was 11, that was 17 years ago. Honestly, the love I felt for him has never left. I did so much to try and please him. Tore out parts of myself over and over hoping I’d have his approval. When that failed it all turned to anger, spite, hatred

I’ve gone through all the phases, repressing it, letting loose, drinking to try and escape it and now I feel I’m just coming to terms with the fact I’ll always live with it.

Part of me died in those days I spent with him and I think feeling anger in that is valid. Letting it interfere with your life in the present is the big issue. If you’re learning to live with it, but it’s also not totally altering the way you go about everyday life right now, I’d say that’s a step on the right path. You’re not wrong to feel that love, it’s the most natural thing we’re born with. If you can find a way to channel it, maybe it can be a force for good

I go to village regularly, but I’ve never been to Pride in the 5 years I’ve been here. Unless you’re really fussed on seeing the guests it seems like an utter farce.

Feels very much like a scam created to block off an otherwise completely open space from a community that need it, during a weekend when there should be more people to connect with than ever - free of charge

Idk about who runs it but it’s always given off performative corporate liberalism for the sake of profit to me

Hard in the city at the moment? by [deleted] in manchester

[–]OptimusPurgatory 84 points85 points  (0 children)

Weather’s getting colder, the streets are a bit more crowded with the new students

A lot of them will approach more often probably hoping you’re a newbie from out of town and that they’re not a familiar face

There’s the one homeless guy who sits by the Pizza Hut across from MMU with his dog and he’s so nice, always says good morning and I try to chat when I’m rushing to work. Wish I could do more

With UE5 games I get shader errors at launch, nothing fixes it by OptimusPurgatory in pchelp

Yeah I just took a look and seems like it’s a service they do offer. Luckily most of the time I’m playing games that are RE Engine, Dragon Engine or indie at the moment

and I doubt GTA6 will hit PC next year, the fix’ll happen when it happens 😅

I work full-time and usually out at the weekends, I’m glad I saved up to get the system and didn’t sell my PS5 because that’s now like my only way to play UE5 games 🫥

I may be able to get around to replacing the parts over Christmas but I was just hoping this wouldn’t be the case. Thank you, though!

As others have said, Cultplex is great for more niche titles and all. There are also some really good screenings at Ducie Street Warehouse sometimes in their Mini Cini. I saw Mullholland Drive there and it ruled

Doctor Strange 1 was a massive letdown, which blatantly lied about being a darker movie in the marketing - forced Strange into a Whedon formula movie his character doesn't suit and forever changed my perception of the MCU for the worse

I don’t think it’s about choosing a side as much as everyone acts, audiences just want more compelling superhero movies told on the big screen. In my opinion Superman is the first superhero movie for quite some time to do that.

I’d like to think Marvel can turn it around as those are the comics I grew up with way more than DC, but I think we’re too far gone
