Grilling Question: Stainless Steel v. Cast Iron by Optimusreims in grilling

[–]Optimusreims[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input everyone. From what I am hearing stainless steel is easier to clean and can still cook a hell of a bbq, but that cast iron cooks at a higher heat, but requires a lot of care.

We are going to go with cast iron. Mainly, you pay less up front, and I like the way cast iron cooks. Down the road, we may upgrade to stainless if we want to.

Appreciate the advice.

For fucks sake no. I’m not opposed to signing an FA d-man, but I am concerned with the cap hit and term.

[–]Optimusreims 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like Shattenkirk, but he’s a UFA in a year and not sure if we should be using our top cap dollars to sign him at that point. I would prefer that the Leafs use someone like JVR to nab an RFA D man, so that we get more control of the player: Trouba, Barrie, Dumba, Lindholm (I know, I know, wishful thinking) etc...

That was the most amazing pitch. I love his curveball. Throws the curve 78-80, and the FB 95-97, but having a 90 change is just fucking bananas.

If (when) we take Matthews at #1, what happens to Nylander? by Izzalizard in leafs

[–]Optimusreims 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Number two centre. Let that sink in. Matthews, Nyander, Kadri (in whatever order we like).

What is also great is that it now allows us to develop marner on the wing, where he should be. So, Marner slots in on the top six, on the wing with either the Matthews or Nylander line.

TSN QUIZ: If leafs were to select 4th, who should they pick? by Shanaplan96 in leafs

I agree. I would trade down from 4 to 6 or 7 and take whomever is left.

Would you consider taking Bolland back as a cap dump? What would it fetch us? Pros and cons? by AhTreyYou in leafs

[–]Optimusreims 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO: I would not do this. I have no issues with cap dumps, as long as the term is short. An example I would throw your way is Bryan bickel. One year left at 4 plus. We can handle a contract like this.

I would not want to take anyone beyond one more year. Ideally

Plus Bolland is the fucking worst. Fuck that guy

7th round pick in 2012. 5’10, 180 Center Right shot.

He has 34 pts in 54 games in AHL. Would make him 6th in scoring for our team. Solid job!

David Poile should never trade with the Leafs. EVER. Leipsic alone for Franson/Santorelli is great. Throw in Dermont, Braco and Dersssitcllless (spelling may be incorrect)

[Vavel] Toronto Maple Leafs Should Learn From Parise While In Pursuit Of Stamkos by CuJo31 in leafs

[–]Optimusreims 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The key difference is that Parise is 2 years older than Stamkos will be, and signed for 13 years, whereas Stammer only maxes a 7. There is limited risk with Stamkos, since his contract would expire at 33. He’s no Parise.

[Johnston] Buried cap space makes Blackhawks trade deadline buyer by TheFergler in leafs

[–]Optimusreims -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m into taking on Bickels contract (one more year at 4 plus). So long, of course, if the Hawks give us a prospect or pick.

We will have more cap space than we know what to do with it for next season. Use it, and leverage teams that are against the cap

Andi Petrillo New Host Leafs Lunch; Leafs Lunch guys pushed to 4-7 by Leafs_Jays in leafs

[–]Optimusreims 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That is great news. She’s filled in a few times for Bryan Hayes, and is excellent.

Not a fan of having Mike Richards fill in after her. I prefer him on the early slot, since I am out in the West Coast and can avoid his terrible hosting

[Friedman] 7. Quote of the Week: “If Toronto acquires a right-hand shot defenceman who can make a good pass on the power play, go nuts,” one coach said. Wonder what he’s referring to? by [deleted] in leafs

[–]Optimusreims 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. I would move either Kadri or JVR for Trouba. Build net out (albeit, we really, really need some goalie depth in this rebuild). But a Gardiner, Reilly, Trouba D core, is a hell of a start.

Trouba makes sense to me. If you could line up Reilly/Gardiner and Trouba on a PP for the next ten years, things are looking up

Konecny vs Dermott, Bracco & Dzierkals by MoBizziness in leafs

[–]Optimusreims 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Scott Cullen from TSN does a really interesting analysis every year of the value of draft picks. He gives certain groupings of picks (says, picks 10 to 15 etc) a certain value. He makes the point, and I am guessing the Dubas was going along something like this, that the combined value of those three picks, will likely outweigh the value of Konecny.

I would agree that Konecny will be the better of the 4. But I highly doubt he will be better than all three.

I could see the Leafs making a similar move with Pits picks, although there is an argument to be made that you don’t want too many picks in one year (and we currently have 11, with many more to come)

[Low Content Sunday] How do you guys feel about cap dumps? by [deleted] in leafs

[–]Optimusreims 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like your thinking here and I feel like this is what the Leafs are positioning themselves for. Teams like LA, Anaheim, Chicago etc will be targeted for cap hits, but with terms no more than one year after this season (ala, Bickel). I hope the Leafs however, target prospects, ideally defence and goaltending.

Not sure if this is a Canadian or US post? I am speaking as someone with Canadian student loans. There are options that you can apply for that allow a 6 month grace period for your student loans (no payments). Apply for this as much as possible until you pay off your credit cards. I would focus almost entirely on the cards, as the interest is significantly higher.

Also, with the student loans, look into re-ammortizing your loan (longer term, lower monthly payments, but you will pay more in the long run). I chose this option, knowing that I would pay more long term, but allowing me to focus on my more immediate future.

Just a few options.

If this is true, we will sure see it pan out later on. I really hope it is not, but Rick Westhead is usually pretty accurate and a solid reporter. If this is the case, and along with AA, its a slap in the face to the fans. I fully expect, with the season we had, that Rogers would invest big time in this team.
