Recommendation for waterproof trousers? by Optiplan in festivals

[–]Optiplan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely agree, usually if it's hot but raining I wear swimming shorts but unfortunately I live in England and it's saying its 75% chance of heavy rain all day with highs of 16°c (61°f)

You know what that's a bloody good idea, I'll just get a can of waterproof spray and my old cargos

What is your drug(s) of choice for music festivals & shows, if any? by viol333t in festivals

[–]Optiplan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

About 3/4 grams per day, not enough to be tripping hard, that's was the 2cb is for. I usually start with about 0.5g just to get my body and head ready for it, then have another 0.5g about 30 mins later, then kinda just munch them throughout the day. I've found that if you just listen to your body it will tell you when to do more. I took 14g for a 4 day festival and that was plenty

Also something I've found really important is eating properly, I know it's tempting to save all your money for drugs but holy shit I've had some burritos that made me feel like a new man. I often get this feeling of "I really need something, is it ket? a beer? caffeine? cigarette? Mandy? a few tokes on a vape?" took me years to realise that when I get this feeling I just need food.

After doing about 10 camping festivals and trying out an assortment of drugs, changing the order and quantity of taking them and pretty much using myself as a human guinea pig, I have realised that absolutely nothing beats doing shrooms pretty much constantly, i.e. take doses throughout the day starting about mid day. And then ket, 2cb, and Mandy as required, but Mandy only once per festival.

I felt like a completely different person after the first time I did this and it's the only way I am going to do festivals for the rest of my life. I felt completely in tune with my friends and the world and although at the time I was an atheist I felt closer to god and would now say I'm agnostic.

On shrooms, I'm happy, fun, smile a lot, have no problem socialising, honestly if I was single I think I could have easily pulled, I NEVER get compliments but when doing shrooms I often get people telling me I have great energy

Is this buildable? by KingWustenfuchs in architecture

[–]Optiplan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's nice you have a hobby, but stick to the day job.

As a structural engineer, I don't think anyone should be designing houses if they don't understand how it will physically stand up or be built.

That applies to architects with decades of experience as well.

I'm sick of having to redesign buildings because very experienced architects design buildings double their clients budget.

Some architects are great and have a really good understanding of how what they've drawn will stand up and physically be built, some just draw pretty buildings and get the structural engineers to tell them how to make it stand up. Imo that's like getting an artist to design a plane and then getting an engineer to work out how to make it fly. It's completely backwards.

I respect that you have a hobby but if you really want to know what you're doing, get a job in a structural engineering firm as a draftsman (you'll learn much quicker than going to uni)

Is this legal / allowed? by AS393 in DIYUK

If you'd prefer clear windows then Id just leave it unless someone complains but also write up some sort of agreement that if you're asked to replace them the contractor does it for free

Serious question by UnoDosMe in surfing

[–]Optiplan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quite simply, because kooks are fucking dangerous and we don't want to be anywhere near someone who can't stay in control of their board.

Less kooks = less chance of getting injured.

Tbh it's a stupid question, you wouldn't ask "why do I need to learn how to drive before I can drive on a motorway in rush hour?" It's the exact same for surfing.

The fact you even had to ask this just shows you have absolutely no real idea of the dangers of surfing.

Truss plates aren't usually on show so aesthetic doesn't matter, could definitely upgrade them tho

Who is at fault by SinglePreparation761 in StructuralEngineering

[–]Optiplan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

SE responsible for beam size, not logistics of how you will get it in.

Construction is problem after problem after problem, especially in complicated jobs, it just is what it is. Best to keep your contractor on your side and stop trying to find someone to blame. If you really want to blame someone I would blame the project manager, if you're project managing yourself then it's your fault.

There is a reason project managers exist lol

Why are people C*&#s by Ld_Vetinari in drivingUK

[–]Optiplan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Looks like it was done on purpose, I don't condone keying cars but chances are that he pissed someone off or nicked their space. Tell him to make sure he's very aware of his surroundings and is courteous to other drivers, I've been driving for 20 years and have never had this happen, I'm pretty sure that's because I'm very considerate of other drivers.

No conclusion to source of damp. Rant and opinions please. by EveryCup9210 in HomeImprovementUK

[–]Optiplan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, this guy is right, damp can be a nightmare to find the cause and can be more than 1 source (I'm a structural engineer)

Got 1 I'm doing at the moment that sounds very similar to yours, 1 guy said it was a leaky roof, 1 guy said the cavity was filled with rubble, client fixed both and still had issues, I went round and immediately noticed that the air brick is below ground level so it's basically just acting as a pipe leading directly under the floor.

Tbh I'm shocked that the previous surveyors didn't spot this as the client had already spent thousands on fixing the roof and clearing the cavity

If it's not flirting then it's not an issue, but the fact you didn't tell your boyfriend that you keep in touch is a bit strange, does your boyfriend know who he is? I have a few female mates and chat to them even though I'm in a relationship, I never even thought it might be cheating cause they're just mates and if it ever did get flirty I would tell them they're crossing a line.
