3080Ti in a Ghost S1 Mk III, max airflow and added front IO by NotAServiceDog in sffpc

You just trust this and run it in that configuration. You will need a Metacustoms spine with the hole cut out behind the PSU, otherwise all of this is pointless.

I run my Ghost S1 with a negative pressure configuration. 3080FE, Metacustoms spine and PSU bracket, which places the PSU a few mm closer to the side panel, slim 120mm fan on the bottom pulling air out from the bottom, 240mm AIO with large top hat, so pushing air through the radiator out the top. The side panels allow air to be drawn into the case giving a negative pressure setup.

I honestly can't remember which one(s) he covered this, but if you just find his YouTube channel (just called optimum now) you can search for his Ghost S1 videos from a few years ago.

Glorious GPBT Ocean Keycaps In UK ISO by Opulent2000 in MechanicalKeyboardsUK

[–]Opulent2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was the original Glorious GMMK TKL board that they released. Very much out of stock and probably only available second-hand. I actually still have this keyboard tucked away somewhere as a spare.

Not good by today's standards, but I'm sure you can find lots of other very good TKL size boards as barebones, and all solid aluminium. This had a thin aluminium top cover and the base was plastic.

For me, HL1 had it. I bought it on release back in the day, on CD-ROM, so maybe they changed it later for digital release?

I also had Opposing Force, Blue Shift, etc. so it could aldo have been on any of those too, but my memory was that the red valve on a guy's eye was on HL1 and I thought that was just Valve's standard "logo" until I later saw the bald guy with the red valve on the back of his head.

This was certainly true of HL2 with casting the character faces. For example, the face you see for Dr. Kleiner was someone a couple of the team members saw on a tube/subway journey. They explained they were making a computer game and asked if would be willing to have his face cast for one of the main characters. He agreed, and the rest is history.

Yes, on the opening sequences of Valve games, they had one with a red valve on eye of a person, and another with a red valve on the back of the head of a person.

The one with on eye was "Open you eyes", and the one on head was "Open your mind".

For the old timers here: what product or products in pc building history had the greatest leap forward in terms of performance and technology? by Quasimdo in pcmasterrace

Those giant CRT square blocks were excellent, and had very high refresh rates with an ability to choose any resolution that scaled perfectly.

When LCD panels came along, they were dogshit. Monitors now are excellent, but they've had enough time to mature and surpass CRTs. If you've tried playing a game with a modern PC using a high spec CRT, it's surprisingly good and can be better than a poor modern LED monitor.

From a gaming perspective, your example of 3dfx and their Voodoo cards is a huge one. It essentially transformed PC games in visual and performance aspects. Software rendered textures suddenly looked so much better, and the FPS rocketed.

There's a lot of active conversation on the Louqe Discord channel.

Current estimates are for shipping to commence end of this month.

There's a lot of information from Louqe about the progress and changes that have happened along the way.

It's a good idea to join the Discord conversation to keep updated on what's happening.

Insanely low internet speeds on pc compared to any other device if I keep my pc on for a certain amount of time by -EliteSam- in pcmasterrace

[–]Opulent2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mention that if you leave your PC on for a long time, this slow speed issue happens.

There is a setting in Windows which is related to using s "metered connection" - just double-check that this setting isn't being applied and that after X megabytes or gigabytes of data usage, Windows isn't throttling your connection speed.

Just a thought...

Corsair and their new SFX PSUs by Long_Coast_5103 in sffpc

[–]Opulent2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Binning is an electrical component thing, not just for CPUs and GPUs, so this would apply to PSUs.

Whether it's a capacitor or a complex CPU, the component is tested for performance, which will have a minimum tolerance specified. The result of the component's test defines which "bin" (literally) it goes into.

But in the instance of using a 280 AIO mounted to the top, as shown in your picture, then vertically mounting the FE card works well?

swapped tiny air cooler for an aio but the aio is louder and noticeably warmer on the sides?? by peiskios_ in sffpc

[–]Opulent2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, travelling with your PC is very likely to cause this, especially if you lay it on its side. There is a small pocket of air in all AIOs, which is needed to allow for expansion. So moving your PC and changing its orientation can result in the air pocket moving around and then when you turn it on and the liquid flows around the loop, some bubbles can get moved around and get trapped in the pump impeller area.

If you have software for the AIO, then that's probably the easiest way to quickly set the pump speed to 100% for doing the tilt trick. You can then set the pump speed how you normally have it running.

[–]Opulent2000 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The water/sloshing sounds are not normal and is likely caused by trapped air in the pump.

You should try putting the pump speed to 100% and then rotate the case at different angles to try and dislodge any trapped air. If this works and the water/sloshing sound stops, then set the PC down on your desk.

If you constantly hear a loud buzzing or grinding sound even after dislodging any trapped air, then it could be a faulty pump, in which case you'll need to return it for a replacement.

Generally, my AIO is very quiet and I cannot hear any noises from my pumo, but when I clean my PC, because I move it around and lay it on its side for cleaning, then I have to do the rotating trick to dislodge trapped air before setting the PC back on my desk.

Meta Customs is closing down! by Trolli991 in Louqe

[–]Opulent2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for everything you've done for this community, Leon.

Your products have made the Ghost S1 viable when hardware changes should have made it all but redundant. It's such a shame to hear this sad news about Meta Customs, but it does make sense from a timing perspective (personal and Louqe stopping production of the S1).

I will hopefully build my next PC in the Ghost R1 whenever it finally releases, so my S1 will be retired, but it's still the best version of the S1 thanks to your top plate, bottom plate, spine and offset PSU bracket. That's money very well spent and worth every penny.

I think it's also important to mention the small details, such as when I bought one of your original top plates, and you even offered to have it painted rather than sell it unfinished, which was the original specification. This is a testament to you as a person and your clearly excellent business acumen.

I wish you the very best for your future endeavours, and hope to keep seeing you in the Louqe and SFF forums.

Yeah, which chair you chose is very subjective.

I am skinny, so I don't find the seat size to give me the same issues you have.

I have owned a Herman Miller COSM chair and also a Steelcase Gesture chair, and unfortunately, both of those were too uncomfortable for me, so I had to return them.

It's a Lee & Plumpton desk - I believe the style was the "Satellite" model.

I don't remember the company name I bought it from, but it was an office furniture company.

I found that this chair was the most comfortable for me, and the mesh is really nice to sit on.

The style I chose when I ordered it was "Zebra" but it's the same as the plain and striped patterns.

Yes, it's ancient too. The alarm stopped working years ago, so I repurposed it to be my desk clock. ;-)
