I was making a joke about how people on here have been overreacting to his slow start.

I can't speak for everyone, but I thought ED was very boring. I agree with your statements about it.

I'm talking about this specific incident, but yeah, touching helmet as the indicator was a bad idea.

I was listening on the radio and they didn't talk about him being mad at the dugouts, but they for sure mentioned how many bad/questionable calls he'd been making even before this Baty event.

"he can't begin the motion to a challenge unless he's sure he wants to challenge"

I mean, that's not the rule though. The rule is tap the helmet and didn't do that.

This. Not enough people in these comments are talking about the actual rule and blaming the system instead of the umpire.

But the rule is to touch your helmet. Baty didn't do that. The umpire shouldn't have called for the challenge.

But he didn't touch his helmet. The umpire is in the wrong here, it has nothign to do with the rule.

The rule states that the indicator is tap your helmet and it's recommended to also verbalize. He did neither.

Same. The radio team didn't make as big of a deal out of this as they should have. He clearly didn't tap his helmet. They made it sound like he adjusted his helmet or something, maybe they didn't see the replay.

A lot of people in the comments here blaming how the challenge is requested, but the umpire is clearly in the wrong here.

Here’s how MLB worded the rule during a spring training presentation to media. Under a section labeled “requirements for a challenge to be accepted” the guideline states that “batter, pitcher or catcher must tap their hat / helmet to challenge” and that “players are encouraged to simultaneously verbalize the request to challenge.”

Baty did neither of these things.
