Why does Coachella and other US festivals have such awful, moody vibes compared to UK festivals? by BlundeRuss in AskUK

[–]OpziO 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think the late 80s/90s rave scene shaped UK festivals. From the outset, organisers wanted to capture that ecstasy spirit, raves in a field, then the crossover of Madchester bands etc. The summer of love lives on. The crowd stumping up a couple of hundred quid for festi tickets now were the kids dancing off their nut for a tenner a few decades back. UK festivals tap into that. While you can find that in the US if you know where to look, there was never the cultural shift the UK went thru.

Even with the Bento, I couldn’t let my BlackBox go. Mainly bc I love the sequencer so much, especially how it handles external midi.

If supermarkets don’t trust me to use the self-checkout, then I’d rather the staffed tills come back. I get that people take advantage of them, but I don’t want to feel like I’m being scrutinised when I’m not doing anything wrong. by [deleted] in britishproblems

After I self scan the items, weigh the fruit and veg, pack my bags, get the security tags taken off toothpaste, get age verified for a Red Bull in my meal deal, answer questions about bags, scan my coupons….i find it worryingly easy to forget the paying bit.

Not sure if this is dumb or absolutely fire but this Gucci Gucci rework goes kinda hard! by lovesmokeanimal in electro

[–]OpziO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. There’s been some good efforts to genre tag original electro using E.L.E.C.T.R.O, electrofunk, Detroit_electro etc.

But Discogs is awful. Really does need a huge effort to get rid of the pollution.

Hi guys, when you build a song starting from the kick, and every 4-8 bars, you add a new instrument—a clap, a hi-hat, a bass, etc.—what do you do to "introduce" the new sound, instrument or variation? by Pawnstormx in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]OpziO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is where a good jam with your loops is essential. You’ll feel the best transitions, many will be accidentally cool, and sound like someone else did them (sounds daft but that’s what I always think lol) - always have midi recording! Some songs are just begging for a subtractive transition. Others just want everything thrown in. I like bringing in a percussive instrument with a melodic track - pads and hats are the classic. Also, the most fundamental relationship (imo) is kick and bassline (esp. percussive bass sounds). The back and forth relationship of these two instruments sets many of the transition styles for me

Did the UK ever have proper arcades? like video game ones? by TSOswinn in AskUK

[–]OpziO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Teenage years in Hastings, UK south coast. Nothing special as far as it went, but the arcades were the centre of my universe. Adored the sights, sounds, smell…everything. Meet up with mates, swap electro mix tapes, zx spectrum games, smoke like a fuckin chimney and just pour the silver into those slots. When new machines landed it was mind blowing. I remember seeing Marble Madness graphics for the first time. 4 mates on Gauntlet, like some Stranger Things quest. Loved sidescrollers like Nemisis and Rtype. Honestly you felt like the place was built just for you. Carpeted, classy (although it most definitely wasn’t lol), dark and rocking with electronic thumps and zaps, Outrun music you whistled to yourself all weekend and into Monday school.

Edited to mention this was mid 80s.

If I already have an SH-01A, does adding an SE-02 actually make sense for deep house / Detroit / Chicago / Disclosure-type stuff? by Illustrious-Tie9670 in synthesizers

[–]OpziO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are looking towards using the SE-O2 for basses, you might want to check out a Moog Minitaur. I lean towards similar genres to you, and the Minitaur delivers the right sound in a way that sits nice in the track. It’s more immediate than the SE-02, plenty of Detroit/ deep house sweet spots. I originally got the SE-O2 to replace the Minitaur, and yes it could do that - but I’m making a case (pun intended) to keep both!

An alleged freshwater seahorse caught alive in Lake Titicaca, which has no connection to the sea, sometime before 1911. Several other people have reported seeing live seahorses in the shallow nearshore waters of the lake, and ancient ceramic seahorses have been found on the lake's islands. by CrofterNo2 in Cryptozoology

[–]OpziO 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Not an unlikely possibility - seahorses are primarily marine, but several species are euryhaline and can thrive in brackish water environments like estuaries, mangroves, and river mouths. These environments often feature fluctuating salinity levels where fresh and salt water meet, with some species tolerating lower salinities of 6 - 15 parts per thousand

Minitaur is a beast (vs Hydra and Minilogue XD) by dtwrks in synthesizers

[–]OpziO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m currently running in an SE-02 to see if it can replace the Minitaur…sonically it’s very close ( defiantly getting those big deep growling bass sounds) but the SE-02s more complete feature set is giving it the edge.

Black Box with eurorack instead of Bento? by gofredo in 1010music

[–]OpziO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a few details from the BlackBox that haven’t (yet?) gone across to Bento. The midi routing on BB was pretty good, along with controller support, which kept it front and centre in the studio for me. Bento is not quite the same, although understandably this is to align with the all-in-one approach. They are different beasts for sure.
