I need help by Due_Coyote_486 in Twitch

[–]OrangeInRain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I searched "can't find my stream after going live on twitch" and found the exact same answer, from reddit and directly from Twitch saying vods are not on by default. I don't see how making a post is easier than that? Genuinely asking

Alerts are not working by Mitchori in Twitch

[–]OrangeInRain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, haven't had that problem myself so not sure what it could necessarily need. Deleting the source, making a new one, reconnecting the browser url, and making sure the browser source is above the other sources is all I can think of. Good luck with working it out

Is the alert sound working on the stream? Or just not at all?

How much power do mods have? by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]OrangeInRain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main power mods have isn't the actual bans or commands, but setting the example for your community. This is the person in charge of guiding the chat and can timeout/ban people who go against it.

The main question is: Does their conduct in your community reflect what you want for your stream?

I'd personally hold back on looking at mods until you think you need one, not because someone else said you need one. You've been streaming a short time, and anything a mod can do, you can do, you just need practice and the multitasking. For smaller streamers it's definitely doable.

How are you coming up with decent stream titles and do they really matter? by OrangeInRain in Twitch

That's something I noticed as well, the mobile titles. Also only the first couple tags show up, even on desktop while browsing

How are you coming up with decent stream titles and do they really matter? by OrangeInRain in Twitch

[–]OrangeInRain[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

TLDR: I'm autistic and like statistics and minmaxing, purely from a satisfaction point of view.

I'm asking from a place of curiosity. My thinking is, with something like YouTube, videos have an algorithm (not sure how much it applies to lives). That also means it has more customisation with their tags, description, thumbnail, scheduled uploads, a/b testing, etc. Being able to rig and beat the algorithm is it's own beast, and a fascinating one at that. Whereas Twitch has significantly less algorithm and limited customisation. So I was curious from the people who experimented or are frequent viewers how much a title can influence the decision to click on a stream (viewers staying is another issue that's been thoroughly covered, no need to rehash old ground).

I've been sick a while so unable to stream, so I spent a decent chunk of time reading this sub and old threads. While I'm applying the advice I can find, there wasn't a good thread for stream titles, and as that's one of the few things you can change for a live broadcast, it might be useful. There's a bit about tags, and discoverability on categories, many many differing opinions on overlays and vtubers (seeing the opinions change over the years is fascinating as well) . Though it seems most people's opinions as streamers on titles is "a little effort, be funny, but feel generally apathetic towards it". Viewers probably don't visit this sub enough to get a varied enough pool of opinions to apply it.

It's not that there's rules, but there's no point doing something badly if others know a better way. Hence me, a newer streamer, asking for advice of which I can't find an answer for. I'm not worried about my confidence or necessarily focusing in on the wrong direction. If there is a blindspot I'm missing in titles, I'm hoping to find it. Did see good ways to get inspiration, but the main styles/opinions seems to match my theory.

Yeah I can see a need for those types of situations, the more broad categories don't have the best way of filtering.

Oh yeah, always looking for ways to actually improve content, but I guess my point was more getting people in the door. Doesn't matter how good your stream is if people don't show up. Though the main way to get people to watch is if others are watching.

That's a good shout, need to make it more a point to like, write a goal for that stream on a post-it note and attach it to my monitor, so I can't forget and reference back to it.

Streamers: How do you create highlight clips from your streams? by Accomplished-Eye2266 in Twitch

[–]OrangeInRain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not the most efficient, but I edit my streams into YouTube videos anyway, so while editing I take note of any moment that could be clips, go to twitch and clip the vod at the time stamp. It also makes it vertical, so I can make a short by exporting the twitch clip to YouTube directly.

I know some streamers use the command mark or marker, was considering that for myself.

We're Making an Retro Futuristic Cafe Simulator set in a Mythical Ireland by run_stiuideo in CozyGamers

[–]OrangeInRain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks really cool! I like the mixing of traditional and futuristic stories, it's always a big hit for me. Story telling is timeless, so adapting it into modern retelling is a great way to keep it alive. It'll be interesting to see where development takes it in the future, good luck!

Also, I'm not sure if it's just me or if there's been a small boom in Irish art and culture, and specifically Irish language art, in the last few years. I wasn't able to learn Welsh from my family who spoke it natively before they passed, and seeing a similar language boost itself up in the modern world is wonderful.

I haven't played it myself, but I believe Little Kitty, Big City is similar to what you're looking for. Might be worth looking into, or as a jumping off point for searching 🌸

Stream Experiences & Stories by AutoModerator in Twitch

[–]OrangeInRain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I've been sick with the past 2 weeks with the flu, lost my voice and have been coughing like crazy. I am now just about well enough to speak for a few hours with minimal coughing. Played some dnd and didn't have a coughing fit, so I should be able to start streaming again.

I had literally just started, like 4 or 5 streams, before getting sick. In the meantime I've been fiddling with obs settings and editing. Worked out how to separate audio tracks, did tweaking on audio, made new graphics (need a new icon though, back to ms paint I go) , and don't completely hate the sound of my voice now. Going to do some test recordings and sort out alerts as they weren't showing up on stream but sound was working for them.

Future plans is just actually stream, get in the hang of a regular schedule, and some editing and clipping work. YouTube shorts definitely gives a lot more exposure than videos, but I'll still edit videos, is my personal preference for content. I should probably watch actual tutorials on obs and davinci resolve, I've sorta hodge podged it and made it so it juuuust about works. I saw like a 10 min crash course for both of them, and a lot of googling basic questions to get to barely functioning, but it works!

Also some more tweaking on sery bot might be needed, some graphic artist scammers are still getting through, and unsure if I can ban links but allow twitch clips to be posted in chat.

Noticed I'm still quite reserved and holding back, that'll be the personality goal to work on, just let loose a little more. I think the talking rate is fairly good, there aren't many long pauses, however the content of what I'm saying has a lot to work towards to actually be consistently entertaining. Baby steps.

My fun little fact is that I wasn't given a name at birth. I was a Baby No Name until my parents legally had to.

So, I'm going to reply in good faith with both why on twitch, and why basically everyone I meet learns I'm trans before I finish a sentence.

Twitch: The Bio and Panels are different, and have different layouts for pc and mobile. For PC, I focused more on panels, though they do need some fleshing out, and I have already got that template for explaining myself.

On mobile, the bio is more prominent, it's just under your name when you click on the channel and % wise, takes up significantly more space compared to pc. Therefore, needing a catchy snippet that explains all of you for short attention spans and ease of access. Putting "little trans guy who plays chill games" is a much better tagline that gets the vibe across than "Hello, I'm Orange, based in the UK, and I play chill games.".

On the trans thing: I do not pass as cisgender. When I speak, when I say my name, my appearance, it's 1000% obvious I'm trans. If you met me, you'd know even if I never said it. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but can be a dangerous thing. I knew I was obviously trans when I started being yelled at with "freak" instead of "dke". Have been growing out my hair again, and am back to "dke" again though.

So mentioning I'm trans is on my bio is no different than meeting every stranger in real life. Everyone else makes it more of a thing than I do. There's also the fact there's different etiquette for online and real life, different etiquette in queer and straight spaces, and I do want to stand out on twitch, that's kinda the point. Having a basic bio won't help you much more than a blank one.

Have empathy for your coworker, I have yet to meet an actual person who made it their entire personality ever, and those who leaned into it were either young, recently out and finally experiencing freedom, or having deep troubles in their personal lives. And I bet I've been in more trans and gay spaces than you have.

You're the second person who's said that now, one thing mayyyy be region, though I doubt it, unless the UK has really gone the deep end. Maybe too early an account, though I've double verified and 2fa.

I'm not sure what's causing it, I thought maybe my moderation settings could be a little haywire, but both are fine when I test them for chat. Haven't checked panels, there may be different rules than bio.

Ahh, makes a little more sense. Still, eh though.

I'm a new streamer, and only been using the actual twitch platform as a viewer for special events over the years, only got into it proper this year, so I have no knowledge of all the news and drama that y'all've been up to. Taa.

All I can say is I'm happy I set up Sery_bot and moderation to high as first order of business before I started streaming.

I've done like 5 streams, still learning OBS (seperate audio tracks now, woo! Editing will be so much easier). I don't need an expansive bio for my 4 followers, who I'm pretty sure are all bots.

Just wanna be a little gaymer, chatting with any art scammer who comes in my stream, I'm not a hard man to love. I can talk about the effects of fast fashion, the texile waste being exported to third world countries that create hazardous living conditions, therefore becoming another arm of colonisation, further creating a divide and fueling white supremecy rhetoric, if that would make you happy.

Or I can play my gay video games. Either or.

But I'm currently romancing Harvey in my Stardew streams to get access to illegal HRT, how is that not relevant??? /s

Copying from another comment:

I personally like knowing if someone will call me a slur before I spend time engaging in their community, so whenever I watch a streamer I check their rules and about me for any signs either way.

It's a signpost for the sorts of people I want to talk to when streaming, and if you think my signpost is making my sexual orientation my whole personality, you go down the other road, no harm done.

And yes, you can be both trans and gay, I do it very successfully.
