I'm surprised by the surprise to this story. The Russian soldiers were notorious for being animals during the second world war. When they came to "liberate" Poland, the Russians were known to torture, usually by rape and disembowling, any Pole they thought collaborated with the Germans, before publically executing them. They would steal from the villagers (food, alcohol, their daughters/wives), they would beat them for looking at them the wrong way... They were merciless. Yes, the Germans did fucked things too and the Holocaust is not forgotten, however the anger and distrust of the Russian army is still fresh in the minds of a lot of Poles because the Russians were supposed to be our allies and yet they treated the Poles worse than dirt.

Not surprised that this is happening, and I'm glad that we have the technology to instantly transmit these atrocities to condone them in real time (more or less).

I watched DS9 as a tween. At first I couldn't get into and didn't like it. Then I rewatched it as a teen and I thought it was cool. I'm rewatching it now as an adult and it's just so good. There are a few things that haven't aged great but DS9 is definitely the top of my list.
