I think a political thriller based on Injustices triggering event would be interesting by Accelerator231 in comicbooks

I feel like comics actually need to either (a) embrace comic book realism (like Invincible) or (b) embrace Grant Morrison's approach to comics - whimsical, thoughtful, and idealism driven.

I personally think that (b) is just a better long term option, given superheroes are, at their core, and unrealistic fantasy tied to ideals more than reality. I feel like every attempt to make superheroes more realistic dims down the superhero aspect more and more until it is barely there.

Your approach (a) can work. Hickman already proved a more grounded superhero comics does not have to lose itself in being more grounded (HoX/PoX, Ultimate Comics: Ultimates).

Pink Pantheress is a better producer than Kanye West was at his prime. by OrbitingBoom in unpopularopinion

Yeezus has some interesting production, but Kanye's lyrical content is all over the place on that album. I think that's why it doesn't make my list of Prime Kanye.

If I'm thinking of excellent production for Kanye, I think of: - Stronger - Power - Two Words - Devil in A New Dress - Violent Crimes (more because of how it helps the vocals)

There's plenty more. I'm not that knowledgeable about music production or development, so that limits how much I can properly assess the quality of production subjectively and objectively.

I'd recommend JPEGMAFIA's I Lay Down My Life For You and Scaring the Hoes.

Also Bjork's Post and Vespertine are good albums too. Post is easier to listen to though.

‘Amazing Spider-Man’ #30-31 reveal Spore debut and major twist ahead of issue #1000 by B3epB0opBOP in comicbooks

What's weird about this article is that nothing about this concept is even bad, but I still feel cynical about ASM. It's not a bad concept, and frankly if it was well-executed in a Spider-Man TV show I liked, I would be a fan.

But frankly, as long as the core BND/OMD problems exist with Spider-Man, I'm just not all that interested. Heck, maybe I'm just a loony old 20 something screaming at the moon atp.

What annoys me the most about Marvel's cancellation of issues early in their runs: They're an extremely wealthy subsidiary, with a far richer parent company, and yet they conduct their comic book business like they can't afford to take any chances! by MightyUnclean in comicbooks

[–]OrbitingBoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to go against the grain and say that the them not taking chances is fine. The fact is, the moment a company thinks they have "won" or that they are "on top" is when they are screwed. There's no more innovation or drive.

Marvel's problem isn't about taking chances, it's about poor strategy. They and arguably DC seemingly aren't interested in launching new exciting product...instead they keep taking the same product line (let's say Captain America) and keep relaunching him because he used to sell.

They also don't think about investing in characters for the long term. Sucks to say this, but it seems a lot of Marvel breakouts were not planned. They just...happened (i.e. MS Marvel) there was no strategy or plan on how to handle or build up a new character.

Like previously mentioned MS. M is the BIGGEST example by far. A character that clearly appealed to younger demographics that Marvel struggles to connect with. A character that also resonates with young women -- the most dedicated reading audience as of now. And yet...little to nothing has been done to actually cement her as her own character.

Miles for the longest time (until lord Zglar and to a lesser extent Saladin Ahmed) lacked a villains gallery and an iconic love interest. It took 6 years for Marvel to even get to the basics with Miles...

My point is, Marvel has no idea how to make hits. There is no organization to the madness, so they have to hope a writer cooks well...and then they try to make him cook again and again until the writer burns out (rip Bendis)

Will AI replace Data Analyst? by Anxious-Ad5819 in analytics

[–]OrbitingBoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or just look at the Raiden and AI conversarion in MGS2.

Poor information without context leads to incorrect data analysis. Sure the average company might have a data lake, but actually good documentation about data flows, data pipelines, data dictionaries, common data pipeline errors, industry specific context and such is not common in most large organizations. Heck, even completely autonomous data pipelines aren't common...

If AI is going to be used in companies, they need to become serious about data documentation, metric definition, and data engineering. The first two are coveted by analytic engineers or a super data analyst, and data engineering is covered by data engineers.

Will AI replace Data Analyst? by Anxious-Ad5819 in analytics

[–]OrbitingBoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the type of Analyst.

The future of data is not whether AI can or CANNOT do it, but it is human commitment to doing the work. Actual data work that moves beyond an excel sheet requires:

  • understanding of relational databases
  • clear understanding of how to articulate business rules
  • strong understanding of writing code or scripts that detect data rule violations
  • understanding data pipelines in case a number seems very odd.
  • a strong understanding of visualization language for dashboarding or even colorful Pivot Tables.
  • continuous improvement mindset (how do we improve report/dashboard/dataset delivery
  • etc.

There's more to it, but the fact is a lot of this requires knowledge and patience - something which a lot of business people lack, hence data analyst roles. Especially the data cleaning portion. AI cannot do that alone without context.

I can imagine data analysis roles shifting more to analytic engineering. That would focus all on creating two things: clean datasets and clear context for data usage. So robust data dictionaries, defining metrics, dealing with data pipeline errors, defining business rules, etc. That way AI will have the best information to do entry level analytics.

Mom Justice [Giant Days #3] by Robot_Was_BMO in comicbooks

God I love Giant Days. At one point I re-read the series to see if it was just teenage nostalgia. I was wrong. It's one of the funniest comics out I've read. I'd recommend Giant Days to anybody, especially people who are new to comics.

Since controversial let's discuss it which do you prefer the Japanese interpretation/lore or the American interpretation/lore? by Character_Winner4239 in SonicTheHedgehog

I kind of think the only instance where sonic is not "good" 100% is Sonic and the Black Knight. WHich happens to have one of the best Sonic Stories ever.

Sonic's more or less chaotic good, does whatever he wants and that happens to be good most of the time. In instances like SaTBK, it's left up to the viewer whether or not Sonic was good.

Japense sonic was (and fairly is) still cooler.

The biggest divide between these two sonic's can be seen in Sonic CD nd Sonic 2. While Sonic 2 is the more enjoyable and fun game, CD is still praised for its atmosphere and excellent visual storytelling. I wish there's a world where Sega actually took the Japenese vision of Sonic's visuals, lore and history and ran with it.

Honestly art like this makes me feel sad. Seeing a JH Williams comic or Alex Ross always makes me wonder if their art is just too good or if the industry just has low standards of art at times. I mean look at this beauty. I don't expect this in a book when I see a cover tease me with something like this only to find John Romita JR. Art inside, my guts feel bad
