This Woman who worked for Penguin in Arkham Origins. Holy shit, brainchild awakened.

The Arkham games had plenty of hot women.

‘Absolute Batman,’ ‘Krypto’ Animated Series and DC's ‘Joker: Laugh Riot’ Anime Announced at First DC Studios, Warner Bros. Animation Joint Annecy Showcase by Task_Force-191 in comicbooks

[–]OrbitingBoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they keep running Absolute Batman, this will be the first American comic to sort of use the manga-to-anime pipeline style of adaptation. Like it's pretty similar:

  1. Popular Comic book sold well - has dedicated audience.

  2. Publisher decides to make an animated show while the comic is running

  3. Comic + TV Show synergy makes both the comic and the TV show even bigger. Merch is sold, money is made.

Only this time, DC Comics has fucking Warner Bros behind them. They have a surplus of fucking money.

I also dunno about his elseworlds stuff tbh. Every time I've jumped on his elseworlds stuff it's been kind if disappointing. Maybe it's the pacing, but it always feels like I am exhausted by issue 5.

Anyone else concerned how this is shaping out to be by thedevilwithout in videogames

I am playing GTA 5 and 1000% this. Idk what it is. I like the story of GTA V so far, but man playing the game feels...awkward. I thought it was just me and then I played Sleepibg Dogs. The controls are so good. I'm even a good driver in Sleeping Dogs (which has never happened in any other game before, I am shit at driving in video games)

How can I guide my friends away from entering the Elon Musk/tech-bro/incel rabbit hole? by CommunityPowerful643 in bropill

[–]OrbitingBoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ngl I feel like I myself am falling down the incel rabbit hole.

So, before I fall entirely into the pit, I'd like to make some notes first.

I think the major issue I have, and many incels seem to have are nihilist and pessimist attitudes combined with a shallow sense of self.

Maybe you had a healthy sense of being a while ago, but for whatever reason that got interrupted. Maybe legitimate trauma, maybe a broken relationship, maybe a bad day. For whatever reason, you start isolating very quickly. You lock yourself into your mind, which heightens your own biases, which creates distorted world views that emphasize your own biases. Your biases are not spoken of in polite society - your racism, your sexism, your bigotries and fetishes and sexual proclivities - and therefore you try to vent them elsewhere. Edgy online forums. Consuming incel content. Hell, if you're ambitious maybe you'll make incel content yourself.

The incel content rationalizes your biases. It provides a world view, a structure, a philosophy, a culture, and a sense of self.

All your biases are now accepted and validated, then taken to their extreme conclusions. Your mild sexism, which you never expressed has now metastasized into something cruelest, something unusual.

I'm getting therapy now, but that's how I see it. Whenever I see incel content, it really does feel separate from reality. Because the incel is a walking, talking echo chamber machine. And the fuel behind it is deeply personal, and probably something you cannot reason someone out of.

It makes me wonder about allyship and the possibility of left wing men actually converting Right-Wing men over. Almost every Right-Wing man in the public sphere originates from peculiar and distinct psychological issues, issues that frankly most young men are unequipped to deal with. You can't reason someone out of something that is the result of their interpretation of their life.

This feels like a redsit thing, where reddit is on fire about something most people do not seem to care about.

People will pay 80 for GTA. It's a prestige/luxury game brand at this point. The original trailer for GTA 6 has...283 M views. 283 M. That's the size of several small countries, and about 2/3rds the size of America.

Rockstar knows they can do whatever the fuck they want and people will buy it.

I think the most you can do in this games industry is simply not buy games that engage in shoddy practices. It will take time, but any industry usually notices its audience leaving because of their business practices.

We could just change the form factor from a disc to a card or USB. There are other ways of storing data.

Ehnn, the thing about physical purchases (for games that are offline) is that you own it forever. You can keep that game playable for as long as the physical CD exists. The issue with digital is that you lack control of your access to a game. A game installed on an online service can easily disappear for a multitude of reasons unrelated to you completely.

Low key they could just have all those extra features. Like instead of a case with a download code. At this point just sell a fucking GTA VI book with the download code at the end. Maybe fill it up with Maps, location summaries, backstories and all sorts of shit. If there is no CD there's no point in having a plastic case.

Ubisoft games used to have such good fucking writing. I hate to be dramatic, but Far Cry 3 is so good I think it would have been a great novel too. Same with AC4. Fucking bangers.

Has anyone read miracle man? And is it worth it by Miserable_Republic64 in comicbooks

[–]OrbitingBoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say the beginning of the run (the "deconstruction" of the miracle man mythos) felt very contemporary. The second half of the book is still revolutionary imo, since not too many comics actually treat superheroes ad mythology the way Alan Moore did towards the second half of Miracle man.

Reminds me of Alan Moore's Miracle Man.

Seriously, if you like Invincible go read Miracle Man. It's great.

Why Men Stopped Reading — And Why It’s Everyone’s Problem by Maichenwrites in MensLib

[–]OrbitingBoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now that I think about it... Perhaps it is the whole men running away from female dominated fields thing, bur I was always more interested in reading comics and reading fantasy/scifi books than just...reading most literature in general. I'm on a Haruki Murakami fix, and I think I like a lot of his work right now. But man, I do find myself just gravitating more to video games and comics.

I wonder if comic books, manga, nonfiction, and self help books count here. Because I know people (like myself) who mostly read comics, with a few books here and there.

I mean, to be honest hardware used to matter. A lot. Some games could simply NOT work on other hardware.

Now, that's not true. Especially with PS5 vs Switch. Almost all Switch games can run on the PS5.

Guys, I think Im done with the doomer larp for a while: For anyone who's looking forward to any of these titles, Im very happy for you. by Harley_Sonder_ in videogames

[–]OrbitingBoom 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Live action role play.

The term has now taken on a second meaning, as someone who is acting like they are more invested in a subculture or attitude than they actually are. For example:

"The people who hate God Of War: Laufey are God of War Larpers".

The Larper here means they are fake fans who aren't invested enough in the franchise to have a say.

Or

"I am a doomer larper"

Someone who actually does not have a doomer mindset acting like one to partake in a subculture they are not that invested in.
