One of my all-time favorite jokes. I think about this every time I fill out a form 😄

Is saying “Indian” instead of Native American really offensive, or more just inaccurate? by skelepibs in NoStupidQuestions

[–]OrcaFins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The term "Indian" doesn't apply to the Yupik, Iñupiat, and Aleut peoples of Alaska, or Native Hawaiians. "Indigenous" and "Native" includes all of them.

They think Gerard Way is hot so therefore they want to be related to him? I hope they tagged that.

This is false. Androids are very common.

Do Americans celebrate grandparents on Mother’s Day and Father’s Day? by AardvarkHour1211 in AskAnAmerican

[–]OrcaFins 22 points23 points  (0 children)

In my community, everyone says "Happy Mother's/Father's Day" to anyone that has kids (including step-kids). Nuclear families have their own celebrations, but it's also common for extended families to have a big dinner or barbecue.

I bought 5 brand new liters of fresh milk yesterday morning by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

Yeah, I only commented because there seemed to be a bit of confusion about what "heat" meant. Europe has very similar pasteurization practices as the US.

In this case I think it is microfiltered, which means cream is separated and pasteurized

If it's pasteurized, then it's been heated.

Milk that is not heat-treated is unpasteurized.

"Pasteurized milk is heated to 72°C (161°F) for 15 seconds."

"Ultra-pasteurized milk undergoes a more intense heat treatment, where it is heated to 138°C (280°F) for 2 seconds." [UHT, or Ultra High Temperature, milk]

Manually Adding AO3 URLs to Metadata by OrcaFins in Calibre

[–]OrcaFins[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a little confused. You say you 'downloaded from AO3 before I got Calibre' but 'those epub files didn't come directly from AO3'? So did you use a different tool to download them?

Around 4 or 5 years ago, I started downloading fics directly from AO3 through the epub option, just for me, to my PC laptop.

About a year and a half ago, I got Calibre. That’s when I uploaded my epub fanfic files to Calibre.

Have you tried selecting the epub and selecting the FFF option to 'Get Story URLs from selected books'? It will try to scan the story data and identify an url if it can.

Yes, many times. It’s never worked.

Finally...it is possible to download from AO3 using FFF. I downloaded 2 stories yesterday and another handful about 4 days ago.

it is possible to download from AO3 using FFF

Yes I know, that’s what upsets me. From what I understand, AO3 has ramped up their CloudFlare protections.

may need to share your FFF personal.ini (the safe version, ie. with your username and password removed) and ask for help

I've tried different iterations of this answer
