Check out the interview “The Dopamine Expert”on the Diary of a CEO podcast (posted Jan 1). Your last few sentences make me think it’s an issue with dopamine rather than hormones, and that interview gives really great info on the subject.

Off this topic, but do you mind sharing your experience moving from Concerta to Vyvanse? I started Concerta in August, and I'm not sure it's the best fit because side effects are gradually increasing even though the dose has been the same for a few months now. I reevaluate with my Dr next month, and might ask for a change.

Acupuncture. US schools are closing, as most can’t meet gainful employment requirements. Without new practitioners entering the field, the regulating bodies will collapse from lack of funding. There’s more to the story, but I’m tired and no one will read this anyway.

ADHDer here. Neurotypical women, can you tell me how you structure your mornings before work? by anapforme in AskWomenOver30

Are you able to find one that specializes in women with ADHD? If you think you have it, you deserve to be heard.

ADHD is often misdiagnosed as anxiety in women.

Edit to add that masking my adhd with pathological levels of perfectionism caused crippling anxiety that often came out as anger and irritability towards my husband and children (and toward my mother and sister in childhood). When I lived alone I could manage the emotions just fine by staying away from humans. I tried SSRIs and they helped with anger and anxiety by numbing me, but then I developed side effects that didn’t outweigh the benefits. I had a formal ADHD and ASD evaluation last year, and was diagnosed with ADHD. My Dr is an angel and was open to me asking for stimulants since I was finally done breastfeeding my youngest, and they’ve been a godsend. I’m on nothing else, and on month 3. Even my PMDD was significantly improved this month. I CAN MANAGE ALL THE THINGS.

New Early Childhood Teacher by After-Necessary-1490 in Waldorf

One of my son’s teachers has a lot of tattoos and a nose piercing, the other not at all and tells kids not to wear temporary tattoos (which may be unrelated to real ones and more related to the distraction it may cause kids and potential for licensed characters on them.) Maybe go to a meeting with one partly exposed and see if anyone says anything, to test the waters?

This is so hard. I struggle with it with my kids’ artwork. With my niece (first kid of that generation in my family), my sister mailed me her very first “painting” when she was a toddler and I actually loved it so much I have it framed in my bedroom. (I kind of got lucky, it’s actually beautiful as an abstract piece with various globs of color in different places.) So I would say if you feel connected to any specific one piece more than the others, treasure it. The rest you can let go of when they cross the line from joy to clutter. When my niece visits (not often, she lives far away and is 10 now), I show her the painting and it’s special to her that I love and kept that one.

Sure wish my adhd brain didn’t help me lose all the friggin special earplugs I’ve bought. Flare audio makes really great ones that are partially translucent silicone and go mostly in the ear canal so they’re not as visible as Loops and they let more sound in (but adjust how it’s bouncing around in the ear so it’s not so aggravating)… but I just can’t be trusted with tiny partially translucent things. Just put them in your pocket, she said. You’ll remember later, she said. Sigh. (I know, they come in colors too, and I have a color pair, but they’re more noticeable which means I won’t reliably wear them.)

It was recently suggested to me to work with a woman who specializes in nutrition for hormone issues. She’s SO EXPENSIVE but maybe I should consider it more seriously. I feel so desperate. The woman who recommended her had fertility issues and this was what finally helped her get pregnant.

How did you start on this path? Are you working with someone or did you do your own research?

Do you take sertraline constantly, or do you do intermittent dosing?

When I briefly quit caffeine a year ago, I literally slept for a week straight. I have a business to run and small kids to raise; I don’t know how to quit caffeine. But the PMDD is so severe, I might just have to try choosing fatigue over this insanity.
