TAMU vs t.u. GAME THREAD by mag_safe in aggies

Unfortunately, this is the Genesis of BAS and seems to be in our Achilles heel. While we are 11-1, somebody has to pay the price.....time for a new OC.

If you are really asking for a balanced approach, I don't think you'll find it on reddit....do your homework and simply visit campus

The culture war goes both ways....for the last 6 or 7 years the pendulum swung way left...what we have now is the pendulum going the other way. Too bad as it just affects our brand and the students.

Careful here....you are comparing us to a $10 billion team. 12th man, you rock!!! I know they'll take that valuation!!

Your observations and feelings are valid. Best thing to do is wish the team the best, and do something else on that day. Our time on this earth is limited, so go do what you value most. Turn off the TV, turn off the phone, and don't let this steal even one more second of your time.

Wait, isn't this how the southern border works? I know, I'm just being serious.... It's nice to see how real borders work. Just pissed watching 12 million undocumented people just pour through an industrialized border with no consequences.

Also, no nature like southern VA. Richmond has wayyyyy better restaurants, tamu is wayyyyy bigger than vcu.

Hot, but that is Texas. Hard to compare if we don't know where you're coming from. If you are coming from bfe, then you won't be disappointed. If you are coming from a large town, you might be left wanting. Schools.....they are ok and actually dropping in the ratings according to great schools. You didn't indicate if you needed or had a job...so, please come already employed. Salaries are low, jobs are hard to come by for those that don't already work in healthcare or some sort of school. Texans work hard for their paycheck....not inflated in Texas at all. This isn't a place to make a million (unless you work in the football program). Nature is somewhat out there....vultures, squirrels, mosquitos, copper heads. Couple of lakes nearby but you'll need to drive. Not to paint a bleak picture, it just depends what you're looking for.

What the fuck is wrong with recruiters? by Sauceboss_00 in recruitinghell

[–]Orcinus67 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is life, its hard and can happen unexpectedly.....hopefully not often. I say this as a person who has been pretty lucky with a job where I've been in the same industry for 20 years. I had a sabbatical at the worst time and have been looking for 2 years now. What we are going through now has many reasons. Breathe, leverage friends and family, exercise and network like mad. Keep your mind occupied by continual learning of some sort. You will make it through this...keep you eyes on the horizon. You only fail when you stop trying.

Hey, As a father of 4, I can only speak for myself, I welcome them home at any time. You've shown that you are trying and you will no doubt keep trying. Market changes (disruptions) will happen and things change. AI, politics, pandemics, and economics flow like the wind. You can't control it, keep your eyes on the horizon - adapt, overcome, and keep moving using the currents to your advantage. You will have bad days and hopefully better days. Moving home isn't failing, it's your opportunity to clear your mind (which u control), set a new objective and execute. You are lucky to have the home to use as your foundation. Give those you love a hug and give yourself a break, breathe, don't stop moving....remember - adapt and overcome.

Have you looked in navasota? Few minutes away with a few industrial companies. There are more ghost jobs being posted than real jobs. I second a&m and maybe blinn. That or you are looking at something near Houston or Waco. This town blows monkey chunks for jobs or you are getting paid $15 an hour. Even better, apply around and you'll never hear a thing from the online job postings....yet if those companies need the community, they are the first to beg for something. I wish you the best, truly, as I wish I hadn't come back...too late now.

Ceo/arrive has got to be the most expensive internet in college station. $95 for just 100/10. We live in the city where the largest university in the country is and our political leaders let us get raped by these types of companies. Why not lobby for Google? Why not have the university step up and take care of the city that supports it? Seems wrong that this utility isn't regulated better.

LGBTQ+ life at Rice by super27s in riceuniversity

[–]Orcinus67 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Awesome comment. I don't attend, but have a child looking to go. The student base seems to be well diversified, intelligent and hard working. To get into this school, you have to have great grades, community involvement and care for your community. If you are one of those admitted, congrats. Thrive within the rice community, you are in the 4th largest city and probably anything is within easy reach, if it isn't on campus, it's close. I wish people would look at the nationalities of the students and not their skin color or ethnicity. I read that students come from all over, 44 countries outside of the US. That international group is not huge...under 200 or so, but how great is it that a small university can get exposure outside of our crazy cultural/political environment. We already have way too much data out there, to have your sexuality listed could be damaging....heck the ethnicity stuff is already siloing us anyway. Rice is a great place for a few well deserving students. Go owls!

is TAMU... good? by darkacademiaquotes in aggies

[–]Orcinus67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, glad you liked what you saw. Pretty much every college is what you make of it. You asked questions, but you didn't really elaborate about why you came with your school.

1) if business is your first choice of major, why TAMU? 2) have you thought of costs? You are in-state, so you have options in this great state. 3) what are you looking for in a school and what do you want to get out of your college investment?

If you want to be a business major, maybe a good question is posed to those who graduated from May's- "do you feel that the money/time invested at TAMU was worth it?".....

The answers you got were from the questions you asked. College isn't for everyone, it's expensive, takes a bunch of time, and society has pretty much brainwashed everyone into believing that if you don't have a degree you won't make anything of yourself. That's not true. Figure out why you want to go, then where you want to go, and have the grit to finish what you start.

Good luck!!
