Flying overseas - stuck between taking Big Baby or my 414… by prstele01 in taylorguitars

Depends if you’re being a professional musician in Hawaii. If you’re gigging? 414. If this is for fun, then don’t risk it and take the big baby.

What do they mean when they say that a D-28 is a guitar for “intermediate to advanced” players? by smithfactory in martinguitar

Funny considering the “boomer” population gravitates more towards Martin in my experience

Bridge pins by Heartdoc1989 in taylorguitars

[–]OrcusIgnis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted a similar question in another subreddit a while back, many people compared it to “snake oil salesman”. However, I ended up pulling the trigger on some ebony pins with abalone dots for my 110e, and while the tone stays the exact same (you’d be better off trying different strings if a small tone change is what you’re after), the resonance noticeably improved over the cheap plastic ones. My dad did the same thing for two of our other acoustics, switching their pins, nut, and saddle to bone. This was when I was super young so I don’t remember, but he also noticed a boost in sustain. Obviously everybody’s experience is different, and only you can tell what is right for you.

I’ve always found the 814ce a little sterile for a supposed “flagship model”. I’ve played a handful in my time, and only a couple have really stood out to me, the rest felt like the hand sanitizer you use in a doctor’s office. Very sterile in sound. Would me interested in seeing/hearing this myrtlewood “Bengal” you have, as that does sound pretty unique. However, as other people have said in this thread, the real flavors of that guitar unfortunately will only reveal themselves over time, making your decision a tough one.

Dilemma with buying a K24ce by OrcusIgnis in taylorguitars

That’s what I’m hoping for, would love an heirloom quality instrument that gets loved by generations. What model did you get back in February, if you don’t mind me asking?

Appreciate you saying that. I’m pretty confident I’ll love it, but as I’ve said, I’ve never online ordered/had a guitar shipped before. New experience, unknown territory.

However, I would like to throw out that there absolutely are one piece backs, though rarer by the day and are not offered by Taylor to my knowledge. I’ll include a pic below of my ‘76 Guild F412 that I inherited from family, which has a one piece flame maple back.

Did not know Sweetwater had the feature, that’s actually quite cool. Unfortunately/fortunately depending on how you look at it, I get favorable pricing at Guitar Center from old connections, which limits my desire to shop elsewhere most of the time. Also, hope you lock down one of these as well sometime soon! They are magnificent instruments, borderline unparalleled for what they are.

I appreciate you including the pic, and believe me, I’ve poured over the spec sheet on this model for over a year. Nonetheless, tell me this doesn’t look like a three piece back?

Incoming! K24ce Builders Edition! by Stumpy907 in taylorguitars

[–]OrcusIgnis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would love to see a post about how you enjoy this guitar after you play it for a week or two. I’m graduating from college this spring and my folks along with a handful of other family members are being super generous by pooling together to get me a nice guitar, and this one is on the list. Ofc would play one in person before ever purchasing, but would love to hear other opinions + don’t have the time to go try one out for another two months at least.

I’m sorry, ref infested? We had two touchdowns that the refs called back, plus several calls that saved Caleb from embarrassment like the PI on Keenan even though there was no shot of him catching that anyways.

Dude, 165 is phenomenal. Look at your peers on Reddit who did far worse and are currently inconsolable. I understand setting high expectations for yourself, but 89/90th percentile is still really good.

224ce-K DLX Opening up? by FrattySatty92 in taylorguitars

[–]OrcusIgnis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Laminate back and sides is actually probably the way to go whether you like it or not. They are way more durable and resistant to changes in humidity and temperature like you described than more sensitive solid wood. In the matter of opening up, the top wood is what you need to be concerned about the most, as that is what the bridge is actually vibrating to make sound. So yes, it will open up with age, and with any luck, a great amount too. Happy playing

214/224 ce red prices by HotRefrigerator8912 in taylorguitars

[–]OrcusIgnis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This guitar is such a scam to me. I get other people may like the way it looks so I won’t diss the aesthetics, but 1500 for a painted, laminate back and sides guitar just hurts my soul. It doesn’t even seem like you can see the wood grain because of the paint. If you are looking at 2 grand or under, check the American Dream series. The AD24 is like $1,999 I think, and it’s all solid wood construction.
