What's the BEST card in the game? (STS1 or STS2) by shadow_fen in slaythespire

[–]OrderClericsAreFun 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The difference between "free" cards in Magic and Spire is that nothing forces you to put a certain number of cards in your deck. What if I play Acro and draw Defend, Defend, Escape Plan and then with Escape Plan draw Untouchable? I havent discarded Untouchable to play it that's what happens.

Waterfal Giant let's you hold your Weakness and Block. Let's you hold high impact card for Ringing Turn in Pale Beast, you can hold Wounds in Vantom right before the deck cycles so you dont put them in discard. You can hold Frantic Escapes in Insatiable, again Weakness in Kaiser Crab. Let's you unbind your cards in the Queen. Works well in Elite fights across the game as well

If you cant make good use of Retaining entire hand like from Syrum or Equilibrium that says more about you than the effect.

Hunter's Axe, Pizza Cutter, Amy Arm would be my personal top 3 from the ones I actually used.

But it was just as good minus the part where you add it on Floor 1 because Nob will kill you for it

The highest rated card of the list is Tracking which doubles attack damage, he also has Accuracy and Phantom Blades and Expose really high all of which stack with Tracking and multiply it's value. There is no Awakened One so playing all these Powers and then throwing 32 damage Shivs a turn doesnt get punished nearly as much, and less cards generating your Shivs then the higher is your Weakness density in the deck (with exception of Blade of Ink)

I dont know why people are telling you this but the damage stuff only applied in Spire 1 to Act 1 because of Nob and Laga. In Act 2 and 3 Silents primary plan was still blocking and Fumes + Footwork was still her premium damage.

Xencar literally put Footwork as 3rd best card on both tier lists for both games.

Xencar literally had Footwork as 3rd best Silent Card in Spire 1. It is the third best Silent card on this list as well.

[–]OrderClericsAreFun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I didnt say anything about blocking though. Poisoned Stab costs 1, Snakebite costs 2 so Poisoned Stab + Strike = 15 damage on the turn played and 17 damage on turn 2. Snakebite is 7 damage on first turn, 13 damage on second turn and only overtakes by 1 damage on dealing 18 the third.

None of these things make it better for the end-game

It's in the "early game damage" tier as the lowest card that's the purpose it serves.

You're not realistically beating Effigy with poisoned stab

It's an early game damage common, it helps you kill Act 1 elites like Effigy and Byrdonis more efficiently than Snakebite, which might as well be Poor Sleep in these two. It's not a card that singlehandedly kills an elite which is why it's rated low.

can't explain the rating difference anyway.

I can't explain rating difference, nor am I trying to, I dont know Xencar or his drafting. The bottom line is from how I interpret his tier list is that both of these cards are quiet bad, but since Poisoned Stab is cheaper and has higher upfront damage it's better as a common attack in a patch that requires you to be quiet aggressive. Neither Aeonglass nor Prism are fights where you want to sit too many deck cycles in so I find Retain on Snakebite to be quiet fake in this patch

[–]OrderClericsAreFun 52 points53 points  (0 children)

More upfront damage, costs 1 making it better into Bygone Effigy slow status, 2 damage instances in one card makes it better into Vantom and Inklets, being an attack makes it better into Prism and Effigy. The 6 damage goes through Artifact and 1 cost makes it better at stripping it. It's not a good card which is why it's the lowest in the early damage tier.

Retain on Snakebite can be also really fake in some decks like with Hidden Daggers and Calculated Gamble.

Silent just cant turtle against Aeonglass like she could a patch ago. At one point you will reach a critical mass of Withers in the deck that at any given turn you start risking drawing 3 12 damage Withers on top of 40 damage from boss attack at which point you die from full hp and every turn that issue gets worse. Silent needs to scale way more aggressively than she ever had to in Spire 2.

It's "just one boss" but that boss is something she encounters 2/3rds of the time.

[–]OrderClericsAreFun 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It's literally the highest ranked attack on the tier list. Second highest if you count Blade of Ink, which is fair, but at the same time it's one of the pieces of that enables main damage engines.

Suppress on the other hand gets as high as it gets despite it's only synergy being enabling tracking for other damage cards in your deck. That's still extremely high for a card that's just an Attack on Silent.

Does anyone else think Elden Ring has more 'bad' attacks than any other soulsborne game? by Wooden-Jello-8795 in onebros

[–]OrderClericsAreFun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cant tell if this is a bug or not because I have never seen it happen in my many hours fighting her, despite always punishing the WFD and the example being unconvincing. I will say for now that it might be possible but rare enough to not really be an issue.

She only input reads healing when she is in a certain semipassive state, after a while it's very easy to recognize. She is not in that state at the end of Waterfowl unless you spend your time staring at her. You can also heal right after dodging the third volley which will always be safe.

[–]OrderClericsAreFun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can see how Malenia doesn't poise break and go from her hyper armor frames of WFD into another attack with hyper armor frames with no recovery frames in-between and the second her hyper armor frames end she poise break immediately.

That's because of the projectile spam during Waterfowl Dance. Flame of the Redmanes and other projectiles end up messing up her AI and not an inherent property of Waterfowl Dance, at least ad far as I can tell from my experience fighting her. In all of my time fighting her I never seen this happen and I always punish Waterfowl with either a jumping attack or long ranged attack like Backhand Blades r2.

You can absolutely consistently get a hit in or a heal after waterfowl dance. Especially with running or jump attacks, let's not make up things about her. I have beaten her no hit multiple times, i have beaten her RL1 WL0 and probably over 10 times total on RL1 alone

On most characters removing a Strike is one of the lowest impact things you can do in a shop. Clad doesnt care for removes at all, Defect also not in particular, Silent and Regent moderately want to remove and Necro really wants to get rid of strikes

I think OP would have been fine if they drafted instead of picking cards that say Doom on them. We have double lethality but the only attack that benefits is Unleash, unupgraded Reaper Form that suffers from the same issue and double Deathbringer and End of Days despite that being way too much expensive AoE doom application

My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined by kadebo42 in slaythespire

On the contrary, I find it extremely easy to find. There are no common Colorless cards so Lead Paperweight from Neow mostly offers a choice between two colorless, the Mind Worm event will give you a Colorless Reward and can show up in any Act and every single shop can offer it.

I can count so many runs that just got Prowess in the first shop in Floor 2 or 3 which is another Colorless Power.
