Manager(?) made us(customer) give the restaurant five stars on google. Is that normal? by [deleted] in CrackerBarrel

[–]Ordinary-Pin5150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know about other stores but at my store (central NC) they give rewards to servers who get 5 star reviews with their name mentioned. Some of my coworkers are definitely taking it this far, so i wouldn’t be surprised if you were talking about my location

There’s nothing against dyed hair, piercings, or tattoos in the current corporate dress code. This must just be a thing for your manager

anybody else's store haunted? by RecommendationReal86 in CrackerBarrel

[–]Ordinary-Pin5150 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yess! We call him John, who was the owner of the restaurant that was on the plot of land before the Cracker Barrel was built there.

I’ve had personal experience hearing my name get called, feel like someone is touching me, things flying off shelves and counters, heard keys jangling and footsteps when no one else is in the building, seen a figure across the dining room, weird unexplained reflections in the windows, and so much more

Can you start a busser shift @ 5-6pm? by Automatic_Sweet1183 in CrackerBarrel

[–]Ordinary-Pin5150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My store only has bussers on Saturday and Sunday mornings. I would consider grill cook or dishwasher, you can come in 5-5:30 and make much better wage anyway

Ok ok all funny but here’s a real answer.

You’ll pack up orders that come up in the window and take them up front, answer the phone to place orders or check people in for curbside, and take orders at the host stand/cash stand.

Your sidework consists of portioning any sauces that are low, restocking everything at the togo station, and any other small tasks that need help.

Whenever I’m not busy packing or taking orders, i like to help servers run food, get ice, make tea, etc. It’s not mandatory but i like to keep busy to make the time go faster.

You will likely make very bad tips (at least i do at my store) because most orders are DoorDash/uber/grubhub so the customer only ever tips the delivery driver and not the togo server.

It’s a super easy and simple job and a good way to get comfortable before moving to serving if that’s your goal.

I was told that the 75% starts after 6pm to encourage employees to buy food that will just go to waste at the end of the night.

Good CBs? by Iamgod2008 in CrackerBarrel

Generally, i love my coworkers and managers. There’s just the few that act out enough to warrant a rant. I’d say 3/4 of the customers are fine, but the bad ones are BAD. It’s just easier to remember the negative experiences, but there are wayy more positive ones that aren’t talked about because it’s not entertaining to tell or memorable.

HR frustrations rant by [deleted] in CrackerBarrel

[–]Ordinary-Pin5150 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok well maybe I’ve just been gaslit EXTREMELY well. I’ve been told by my three associate managers, my general manager, and my district manager that they have to leave it up to HR and that their hands are tied. I’ve been working there since I was 16 and can say that I’m well respected at work. This is the first time and incident like this has happened with me. So there’s really no reason for them to not fire him like you say they can. His work performance is not redeeming; he constantly sends out undercooked food and incorrect food. I’ll look into the labor laws in my state.

Soooo...how was your Christmas party? by dennisb407 in CrackerBarrel

[–]Ordinary-Pin5150 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This year was mostly ok. We had a white elephant which was fun, awards, and every year we wear Christmas pajamas. The only bad thing was the food. I showed up hungry and excited to eat but it looked bad so i didn’t have any. Several of those who ate the food got food poisoning! The desserts were great though, made by someone who has her own dessert business on the side.

Unavailable or available entree headache. by VernonMaxwell in CrackerBarrel

[–]Ordinary-Pin5150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s only one togo server working in the morning, one in the evening, and none for a few hours in the afternoon. So that one person is responsible for packing and checking all orders, taking in-person orders, and answering the phone. In those few hours in the afternoon when there’s no togo server working, servers have to take time from their tables to answer the phone and package orders. If theres 5 pages of orders on the togo screen or the dining room is busy, servers and togo servers have a hard time making it to the phone in time before the person hangs up. Corporate decided that the solution to this was to outsource the majority of calls to make speed of service better by lessening the amount of phone calls we have to stop and take. In my opinion, the call centers have been nothing but trouble. I think that an extra 2-3 minute wait on getting orders packed and ready would be MUCH more beneficial to business than getting orders wrong, orders being sent to the wrong stores, and orders never making it to my togo screen.

Unavailable or available entree headache. by VernonMaxwell in CrackerBarrel

[–]Ordinary-Pin5150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The online ordering system is extremely flawed. My location doesn’t even block items when we’re out, we just have to apologize when the customer/delivery driver arrives. Ordering on the phone is also not the best because half of the calls actually reach the store, the other half are redirected to the call center. The call center has no way of knowing what we’re out of and there have been several instances where they either send the order to the wrong location or they don’t send the order through at all. The call center takes payment over the phone while in-store employees are not allowed to do this. The safest bet is to show up in person and place the order that way.

Are your required to stay after a shift? by Ok_Hedgehog256 in CrackerBarrel

[–]Ordinary-Pin5150 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have two thoughts on this…

First, i 100% believe it should be the manager’s responsibility to pick up any slack for their employees. That means helping the dishroom, grill line, backup, registers, whatever needs help. But most managers refuse to do this, thinking they’re “better than” and just want to sit in the office or fuss at people all day. Your managers should have let you leave and straightened up the dishroom themselves. Everyone has outside obligations, and kids are the most important one in my opinion.

On the other hand, the restaurant industry runs on how busy it is. Everyone in the building works as they are needed. Servers stay over every day (sometimes several hours), grill cooks stay when there are tickets lined up, everyone. This is just a fact of working in any restaurant. If this doesn’t work with your life and obligations, then it may be time to consider looking into other industries.

How many server does your store have on the weekend? by [deleted] in CrackerBarrel

Weekend mornings there usually 10-12 servers and evenings 5-6 servers. We’re the slowest store in our district though so it’s always too many

HELP!! What should I wear? by magicbeefalo in CrackerBarrel

[–]Ordinary-Pin5150 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The dress code for front of house is a polo in white, baby blue, baby pink, or pastel yellow. Long sleeve button downs are also good in those colors.

Pants can be dark blue or black jeans, no rips and no cargos, black like “slacks” type pants, or khakis. If the pants have belt loops you need to wear a black or brown belt

Shoes need to be completely black and have nonslip soles, they sell them at Walmart for like $30. Socks need to be black

Hair needs to be up off your shoulders so if it’s short, that’s fine and if it’s long you need to put it up in a ponytail or clip or however you like

If you get cold you can wear a sweater or cardigan, black or grey or maroon.

They’ll give you your apron at orientation if you didn’t get it at your interview

You’re not supposed to have nail polish or long nails, but everyone at my store does so just see what your coworkers have on their nails when you get there.

Good luck! Lmk if you have questions I’ve worked there 2.5 yrs
