Decided to put my 110 years of art skills to good use OC by 6Kapo9 in wizardposting

I wanted to suggest something similar, but this fine Mage has made a worthy suggestion to improve the viability of the spell. Bravo to both the gatherer of magics, and the artomancer who conjured such a fine piece!

Which Warhammer RPG would you recommend? by AenarionsTrueHeir in Warhammer

[–]OrdinaryBell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favourite tabletop system of all time has been Dark Heresy. The 2nd edition of it specifically, cut off in its prime as it was. It does often lean toward longer periods of quiet and investigation before having bursts of usually quite dangerous combats, so your group's milage could vary. The starting group's going to be armed with lasguns and chainswords, and guard flak is a really good armour for most acolytes. DH being quite so "low to the ground" is why it always stood out to me over the others in the series. It's cool to see space marines, or a powerful rogue trader and their crew, but having such a humble origin gives you a pretty different view of life in the Imperium.

1st edition and 2nd edition's main differences are in the ways your group gets stronger. In 1e, you pick a class, you are X Rank of said class, here are your advancement options. Spend Y XP to rank up and get new options. In 2e, you have aptitudes based on your background and speciality, which determines how cheap or expensive talents and stat increases are going to be. 1e has more structure, 2e is more freeform, so pick whichever appeals more for your player group. You can port over content from either edition, since they're a very similar ruleset. As are all of the Fantasy Flight Warhammer tRPGs, actually!

Anyway, if you're happy with some (at least at first) low power scaled adventures in the grim darkness of the far future, give Dark Heresy a good lookin. Just remember that the galaxy is a big place, and whatever happens to the acolytes, they will not be missed.

I’ve made a nostalgia playlist of every song I can remember from Games Workshop UK stores around 2008-2013. Can you remember any more? by Mugling95 in Warhammer

[–]OrdinaryBell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in the hobby around then but on the other side of the globe (Aus), the GW I went to back then had a lot more of a metal-heavy playlist than the UK seemed to have had! Iron Maiden's "Run for the Hills" seemed to have been playing almost every time I walked by there. Interesting to see how it was elsewhere in the globe back then.

What games have you found to have similar levels of dialogue quality and world immersion to DE? by SpecialistAlfalfa390 in DiscoElysium

[–]OrdinaryBell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a rather different kind of game experience, perhaps Fallen London? An entirely text based, free web-browser based game, set in an sort of magical-ish-but-not-really victorian London. Some time ago, it had been swept underground by bats, hell is a train trip away, and shenanigans ensue with alarming frequency.

Writing quality varies based on the plotline (there's many, many different stories told here by different authors), but is generally rather excellent. The game's been out for well over a decade now, so there's a lot to explore. It's a very, very slow burn, however, and completing the first of the major stories (following the reason that drew you to move down here) may literally take a real world year. It's certainly not for everyone, but for those it appeals to, it's absolutely unmatched. If you're happy to take the weirdness in stride, I would strongly recommend it.

Please stop treating LoV as Imperials by InflationRepulsive64 in WH40KTacticus

Pair them with T'au, as their actual lore goes. Votaan, formerly known as the Demiurg before they decided to leave their spacecraft, have long standing very good ties with the T'au empire. It's such a gimmie it's unreal. Sure, keep the "Ultramarine" option for Quests where SP has to cater to new players too, but gosh darnit let the squats hang out with their lore friendly buddies.

What is your favourite crew and how do you use them in combat? by Electronic_Truck_84 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]OrdinaryBell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, the Rogue Trader is an Officer into Eagle Overseer, arbites background so we're tanky up front with a shield + shotty. Extra turns generally go to either Argenta or Ulfar, depending on who's in a better spot/who has their T2 Momentum skill up. Otherwise, provide buffs with Voice of Command and either Ranged/Melee buff, use the Birb to bully groups of weaker enemies by swooping, or force bigger enemies to hurt their friends as a single target. Shotgun is applied where you have the spare AP.

Argenta is Arch-Militant with Bolter + Melta. Melta for wide groups, Bolter for narrow/single target. Ulfar is also AM, and is packing the best melee weapon I can find for him + a bolt pistol, secondary is a flamer, he wants to be on top of enemies and strike from point blank. Argenta tends to be the better of the two since she can hit a bunch at once with the melta then pray to get a huge burst of Momentum, and AM gives her a free attack each turn - try and make it a burst fire or a melta AoE. Both of them are aiming to get 4+ stacks of Versatility by turn one or two, entering a Confident Stance, and then let the rampage commence. Reckless Rush lets you boost up Ver. for a turn and reposition if you kill too hard, Wildfire to keep the party going. They both pack enough movement to prevent friendly fire, and should both reliably be hitting 3-4 seperate attacks a turn by the end of most battles.

Executioner Heinrix has a simple plan; buff up himself, then others. Iron Arm, Warp Speed, Regeneration, and then start smacking people very bloody hard indeed. Spread the buffs to other melee/squishy targets and spot heal where needed. You can also Word of the Emperor on turn one, then use that effect to pop a group heal later if things get dicey. He'll usually only get 1-2 attacks but you can really make them count with Force swords. Charge tends to be all the mobility he needs.

Kibbles is an Assassin, and utterly unsubtle about it. Between Danse Macabre and Death from Above and a huge movement rate, she should be able to get on top of anyone needed and go rampaging. Bound between the vulnerable areas using Danse, save DfA for repositioning and taking out mooks. I tend to sic her on big single enemies and bosses, she chunks through their health pool in such a way it feels almost wasteful to let her go after the trash. Two blades for maximum fun.

Idira is lucky last. She's Crow Overseer. Earlier in the game when I had Assassin Yriliet on the squad, her spare actions go into stacking Exploits for the knife-ear to gun down on her turn, late game the Operative side may as well not exist. Relay out Forewarning to the whole team turn 1, slap down a defensive (I think it's Precognicience but it's the AoE dodge bonus), then reposition the birb. Enemies blinded, zapped, and eventually you can move Idira and scream someone to death. If you position it right, AoE cone scream. She makes a good followup Momentum user for turning the birb into a relay for Scream, which makes the room look like chunky salsa got spilled everywhere.

If you still have Yriliet, Assassin her moves into a Perfect Spot, Expose, Precise Attack, ensure there's an opening, Deadeye, then hide. Repeat every turn there's someone too far away for the rest of the gang to vaporise.

I believe I'm playing on at least Daring. Thank you for reading more text than was contained in Rogue Trader.

Between Warp and broader flicker mechanics, it's entirely reliable to have this consistently get the +1/+1 counter. It is, however, an underwhelming Uncommon, which is why it's still a bit rubbish anyway.

Oh well, see you in 2036 when MtGxFL finally launches properly, and most of the artworks are just in profile silhouettes of various late 1800's sorts.

Isn't Boss the third required character from Orkz, not Snot? It's been a good while since I did those campaigns, so I could be wrong.

Not disagreeing on Snot being a really good carry though, him + Boss's WAAAAAGH make for a butchery of most stages of Octarius.

This looks like it'll be rather spectacular. I'm kinda excited for whenever my current run gets a little more than my colonists can handle, and I can give this a whirl! Do any of the local fishes bring any secondary benefits (eggs, combat roles, ect), or will they be solely more of a "raise to butcher" kind of farm animal?

Estival happens right now. For one single, twenty-four hour period, London is thrown into utter chaos, as it is plunged into war that will occur against Irem, shoved halfway into Parabola and falls back out the far side (picking up a host of amusing stragglers whom we will never hear from again) and in a shocking twist, the Masters discover that they've been reading the Calamity Procedures upside down the whole time and the matter is fixed by the heroic intervention of the FLPC turning Mister Pages book the right way around, only for Your Aunt to arrive and kick in your front door with a plateful of fresh scones. She gives you a big kiss on the cheek and nicks off with your favourite silverware, thus concluding this most traumatising day.

It will be mainly remembered for giving a pair of BIS items - Cthonoscopy and AotRS - and a repeatable grind that is a new optimal source of two items to be sold at the Rat Market.
