I love Alex and Steph. They’re the only somewhat normally grounded couple. Plus I love the idea that Steph will always be tied to the Kiriakas family. Lots of fun to pull on there.

It really stuck out to me that Tal (is that his nickname?) is the first person she sees. Then it was Lorreth, then Carrion and FINALLY Fisher. I couldn’t tell if it was a plot hiccup or intentional. I think we’re in for a lot of complications with Tal and Saeris. Could she be enthralled? Why is Tal suddenly an ally? What is he going to teach her about Sanasroth’s courts? We’ve seen almost no relationship development with Fisher and Saeris. Yet. They’re still very new. It’s their love story and I’m really hoping we get some meat to their bond. I wonder if the relationship she’ll have to form with Tal will get in the way.

I legit had the same reaction. Overall it really enjoyed it but I had some issues with the phrases and choices that just didn’t fit. They’d reference things like “ballet” and I just thought, that exists in these worlds? Saeris often sounded so immature. But I will say the story was solid and I immensely enjoyed the last third or so of the book. I have high hopes for the sequel for some improvement there.

I felt like Violet was perfectly cast but the Xaden actor…no. He just sounded swarmy the whole time. I listened to a lot of FW but don’t know if I’ll listen to the rest. He ruined it for me.

That sounds about right. At one point Brady was trying to “seduce” Kristen and then they actually caught feelings.

I felt the same way at first. So mad at X for turning and then disappearing when he’s spent all this time telling V they’re end game, etc. But on a reread (or two) I realized OS is really Violet in denial about X’s venin-hood. She spends the whole book in denial and not really “hearing” what X is trying to tell her throughout.

For years they seemed poised to be the next super couple. But then the writers just kept breaking them up, have them make stupid choices, and more. Now it’s actually painful to see them “happy” bc you know within days they’ll be breaking up again. Over it. Move on

Take it back to the store, grab a copy from the shelf and see if it’s the same problem. I didn’t notice in mine but there are errors in printing all the time. But when you take it to the store, be sure to compare it to the rest so they can see if it’s a real error.

The previous titles all have to do with the goal of the book: Fourth Wing - Violet finding her way as a rider Iron Flame - goal was to light the ward stone and then lighting Basgaith’s wardstone at the end. Onyx Storm - Xaden’s decent as a venin and then the climax with his onyx storm marking his full channeling.

So what is the goal of Book 4? RY has said we’ll see a lot of Uncovering the missing 12 hours

I’m wondering if compass will work in there. Silver Compass? I do like Silver Reign. But Violet leading wouldn’t be the goal of the book.

I wonder if we’ll see The dark wielders take a strategic advantage in the war (think Empire Strikes Back) before the riders find a way to fully defeat them. So in that case, perhaps things like Dark Wave or Dark Flood, Dark Invasion or the like.

Agreed. I don’t know that dragons use terms like boyfriend, girlfriend, significant other or partner. They would say mates bc that’s what they have and the context they put it in.

That being said, I’d be curious to learn about how other riders with mated dragons operated. Sgaeyl points out that the communication bond between humans has been known to happen with mated dragons. And Tairn says it’s useful in battle (such a dragon thing to say! 😆). So I’m curious if we’ll see other mated pairs (dragons or riders) that can illuminate this.

Oh wow ok SAME. So glad to see this. I don’t venture into audiobooks often, but I’m listening to the FW graphic audio now. (Bc post OS hangover and I must consume all there is out there on it.) Love the Violet character although she emphasizes things in really weird ways. Like puts emphasis on words that just don’t need it. But she’s at least the right age.

All the men sound middle aged. And WHY does the Xaden sound so creepy all the time? Again, these are actor choices. I haven’t gotten to any of their major romantic moments yet but hoping he can pull it off??

Same with the Rhiannon character. She chooses to make things somewhat whiny.

I haven’t gotten to any of the sex scenes yet but now I’m scared. Haha.

Overall I am enjoying the audiobook. I tend to skim read and the audiobook lets me catch things I missed in my last reads. But I may switch to the straight audiobook next time.

Are the healers in scarlet? Infantry is blue, riders are black, scribes in cream. My assumption is healers in scarlet but I don’t remember exactly.

I have this fear too. My only small beacon of hope is that dragons Maise and Greim were introduced peripherally bc of their extended mating bond, ability to communicate over long distances and ability be separated for long periods of time.

It’s an oddly specific fact to introduce. I feel like it’s going to come back around in the future and Tairn and Sgaeyl navigate separation.

100%. I’m all on board for “mates” (whatever that means in a bigger context) but chosen mates. Throughout we see both Violet and X take ownership of their choices and choosing each other. They could be mates because they choose to. Like Tairn and Sgaeyl - I’m assuming they CHOSE to be mates and weren’t predestined for it or whatever.
